  • Reddit brought me here

  • Its not like going on wall street and screaming life is unfair will change anything

  • aww, wow!!! love this!!! I wanna be there and do as they do! :D

  • celebrate, for we have been given life!

  • A shaman say, one day people will cry for food and when those who can't eat enough leaves this world. Food will cry for people.

  • Congratulations. Your arrogance outstripped your message. It was really fucked up to make those people scramble after money on the ground.

  • tbh with everyone...I only feel I can blame myself for this situation, as I am now aware of it...but the truth is, most ppl dont have any idea...society is built in such way that our knowledge comes from our teachers...there are so many things that we dont question because we are not aware of the fact that we can...we get some things, some ideas, as truth, when in fact they might well not be true...we accept them because everyone believes them, and not by conscious choice.."and above all...love"

  • beautiful

  • does anyone know the year/date that this happened?

  • i wish i was there lol

  • My drive in life sure as hell isn't the goal of getting money,Humans all have the greed gene but most are ruled by it.I've never met anyone "yet" who isn't a greedy fuckstick,ya i want this and i want that but i know when not to waste money that could buy my next meal.I label myself poor but that don't make any of you better than me and vice versa..Most likely every problem that the world has ever had involves currency one way or the other.Money,oh fuckin well right.?One nation under Greed.

  • my dad grew up in a mud hut came to canada worked went to university and now makes 450,000$ a year and works 40h a week 46weeks a year. he started in a mud hut, goto mcdonals work save be smart succeed stop complaining unless your unable to work i dont care how poor you are if you do things rigt you can get anywhere dont expect people who slave themselves for years to get out of poverty to hand out stuff to the ones who didnt

  • i'll bet your dad wasn't addicted to drugs...some of these people don't actually have much of a choice here. it's this whole sick society that keeps holding people under, not their own 'laziness' or something

  • oh yeah thats how things should be, if someone makes a mistake its my responsibility to clean it up! oh i forgot sorry my point of fairness was useless, im just going to go to walmart and throw things off shelves because im addicted to being an idiot and they can clean it up

  • I know you don't mean to say that the millions in poverty throughout the world simply, "haven't tried hard enough." But There is something seriously wrong that so many die every day so we can live the way we want. I'm on no pedestal, but I want to change. I want to love, the poor and the rich, and live a life worthy of God's love and call. And I think we need to start by sharing the money we make, by cutting back and by loving others. Heroes: St. Francis, Mother Teresa... how about you?

  • way to change the subject completly! my family sponsor 25 kids what do you do? my hereos :any one thats not a flippin fool liek you that changes the subject cause they got clowned

  • man, dont you get it? you can do no great things, only small things with great love! you can move mountains, or give everything you own to the poor, but without love it is nothing! u could sponsor a million kids if you want, but God would rather see you have love for the poor, than a giant cheque sent to someplace you might never see

  • congrats your a genius, god would rather me care about one person and not help 25 people who id never see. small things are great big things are fantastic. your just a fool.

  • @thisbetterworkmount great things are better and more effective

your so typical, if you are so strong in your beliefs sell everything give it all away go live with litterally only the clothes on your back sit on the street see what od does for you. if god was real he wouldnt like you or this idiot either

  • The church owns trillions of dollars in assets and property. people give 10% yet that almost never makes it to the very poor they preach about. So sell all church buildings give it to the poor and tithe your 10% to the poor directly. This alone will end poverty and then and only then will we actually BE THE CHURCH! dumping money on the street says nothing if you are not willing to sell all. SELL IT and then they will take you seriously. until then they will forget then pr

  • These "wealthy" people have created millions of jobs and many of these wealthy people give millions of dollars to the poor. Forget the wealthy people and the corporations . I say the "church" should live what they preach. The "church" can start by selling all their real estate and useless buildings and literally give the money to the poor. then and only then will the rest of the people know you mean business. you mentioned nothing of the wealthy churches. church give your money to the poor!

  • yes giving should be done in secret so your pride does not increase. because a lot of people like Oprah and celebrities do it for fame and it makes them feel good. Giving should'nt make you feel good. It should be done for the sake of sharing and making sure everyone is taken care of. Shane and these people are doing this to state that there so much money on Wall Street yet there are few people sharing the wealth because of greed. Its good to give publicly in situations like this.

  • Of course giving should make you feeld good. Everything that you do should make you feel good. Secret sharing is cool, but what if you're presented the choice: Secretly, or overtly? What do you do? Not share publicly, because you're ashamed? Why feel guilty about giving?

  • quick question...can someone who is associated with this video or was there that day answer it?

Why was the money dropped on the ground for the poor to grovel over it on hands and knees like the always have to do?

Was it as a "spectacle" for the wall street execs to see? I hope not. Can somebody explain the reasoning for that?

  • sorry, i wasnt there on the day but i dont think anyone has answered? if they have sorry ..

but a movment called the simple way, of which shane clairborne is part of, did this simply as a way of giving to people.. but also to show everyone the value of money isnt really that much... that is not the most important thing here. LOVE IS. the throwing of it was to show how we shouldnt hang onto money so much and it was done on wall street to highlight the inequality of current wealth distribution.

  • I guess so get sympathy by showing rich guys what poor people have to do every day anyway, just to survive. It's plain reality. Poor people are used to crawling on the concrete but a rich CEO wouldn't even bother pickung up 10 Dollars on the street.

  • According to Communism, everybody works hard, but some people, even though they work hard, they aren't as talented or as smart as others, so the more talented (luckier) people share with the less fortunate. Therfore, everybody works just as had and everybody recieves the same. I work hard but accomplish less, you work hard but accomplish more, in Communism, we will share what we make 50/50.

  • ? Are you kidding me? I told you! I'm Commie! That's the opposite of the Communist mentality dude!

  • This video is so beautiful it brought so many Biblical concepts to life for me..

    Thanks for posting! =)

  • but the biblical idea is totally different.

Israel should not have had a king (no government), the Jubilee quoted in this video is God's idea how to restore the economical equilibrium. Every 50 years the Judeans should give back the land to it's owner so that no one could really become poor.

In the New Testament this is even made MORE radical, Jesus commands us to give to the one who wants our mantle also the shirt and the first church had community of wealths. THIS IS GOD'S CONCEPT

  • @ Offspringfan64: the thing you don't understand is that the idea of Communism (and Democracy) is that the state is good. Yet Jesus tells us that our ultimate moral instance should be GOD and if we look at governments they never execute the will of GOD, because they are part of this fallen world. Therefore a christian (as this is) idea of economy can never rely on the state to do sth. You say it's foolish, I say it's the only way it works. Because in a state controlled system IT gets the profit.

  • Well Shane, i hope you can read this comment if you have the time considering your overwhelming schedule and what not.i have a question. Can you explain this concept of Another world is possible?i work at Starbucks, & am following a passion to become a youth pastor, but i feel the overwhelming need is not among suburban kids but among the broken and poor...i live in Spokane Washington and am desperate for A Simple Way to be developed with your sense of passion and urgency please respond

    God Bless

  • LOL 1% of the world own 49% of the worlds wealth. Than all the 'poor' folks cheer on the street of the NYSE. Do thsoe soo called poor people realize they are part of that 1%?

  • Hey, I'm Commie.

  • hey commie. I don't think you understand what is actually going on here. this isn't about communism. communism is a government imposed system and therefore doesn't work because its about regulation. But giving to the poor and sharing all your resources because its just, is simply being generous

  • Hey fellow Commie, no? But you seem to believe in the sharing of industrial resources with the poor! Call it generous, call it Communism, it's the same basic idea! Communism is really more of a system of economics than a system of government. And withought regulation, how do we know that somebody is taking more than their share?

  • Hey I don't believe in communism. Sorry. The government should never interfere with someone's resources BUT why not share resources (I never said industrial but why not) anyway. They have a need we have a means why not? Its not Communism because communism would put a certain portion for every man and woman. But if you're just giving it on your own than you can give as much as you want. Its not about economic systems which are government controlled but about having big enough balls to share.

  • I am very sorry to say this, and I mean it with respect and write it hesitantly, but:

What you say is foolish, listen to yourself, why would I give you some of my food, my resources, my money if I could keep if for myself? You see, if you are a kind individual, that doesn't mean that everybody else is, somebody will try to take advantage of you, hence, we try to regulate, which is why we need government, what would you call such a system of government/ Economics? Communism! Good intentions...

  • this is RADICAL!!!!

  • how can i get involved in something like this?

  • read Irrestistable Revolution it talks about this in the book and how you can share with ppl by leaving money in random places for ppl to find .

  • Release yourself from materialism. It's incredibly difficult (I still struggle and sometimes fail!), but when you do, the biggest weight is lifted off of your back. The competition ends, and you can live in peace. Give whatever you can, and love a million times more. That's the best way to get involved!

  • Amen

  • Luk 18:18-25 Is that person you? Or me? Everyone should ask that question.

  • High Risk=High Reward. many of the CEO's have worked hard at their job/education to get where they are. Many have risked thousands if not millions of dollars to start companies or to mainatain them. I am not a CEO or anywhere near there. i am at the bottom earning the average that they listed. Without many of the CEO's thousands of people would be jobless and making nothing... some are overpaid yes, but its necessary to have them.

  • what does it profit a man to gain the world...but lose his soul?

There's the Randian approach, "get all you can", and then there's the Jesus approach, above. Rand touches on this, too, but only in terms of justifying oneself even moreso.

  • that gives me chills.

i wanna give that money to them

    help them

    God help me help them.

  • this is a marxist movie!

  • This is a Jesus movie! :D

  • Bakinazim: I wish to God that Marx could have comprehended what was in this video--that real Faith seeks to SOLVE the problems of poverty and destruction Marx attempted to counter with more of the same useless violence.

  • no its not its about sharing and not holding you money so close to your heart .

  • the qoute i originally read by ghandi was " there is enough in the world for eveyones need, but there will never be enough for even one man's greed..."

  • whats the song in the end called?

  • Day of Celebration by Anne Weiss

  • rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

  • One day dollar bills will fall from the sky...but they are not going to be worth much...That's why they fall...

  • "Shane, beware of practicing your righteousness before men, so as to be seen by them, for you already have your reward." Be careful, brother, that in your desire to "help" the poor that you have not already disqualified yourself before God. Your "giving" should have been in secret.

  • Yeah, he mentioned that in his book. It's a really good read. But, is it possible to "disqualify yourself"?

  • He has given in secret. Has he told you how much he has given, no he only raises your awareness to the fact that you should give too!

  • nicely worded.

  • Something like this would not be possible in private. Seriously it moved me near tears. If Shane gave up his own reward freely for this, I think that was a bargain.

  • sry to say hansand but his goal is not to proclaim himself great as it might seem but to instead let people know that these thingscan and do happen. he uses himself as an example to show us that the world people dream of but dont act on is still real.

  • dude that's a little foolish to say giving should be done in secret. Jesus himself, said let your light shine before men. And did Jesus "give" thousands of people food?

  • To Shane: Your book and your videos have disturbed me and I needed to be disturbed. My husband and I are in the process of "simplifying" our life. It easn't an easy and cushiony life Christ calls us to. I owe it all to Him and He commands us to care for the poor. Thank you for being someone who lives what He preaches no matter what the cost. We "Americans" are the wealthiest people in the world yet suffer from the most depression and mental health issues that any people in the world.

  • Money belongs to the hard working not the poor

  • James chapter 2 verse 5 if you are a believer. If not, hope you never get injured, or as a Nurse and Bible teacher hope your insurance company never goes bust. But if you should meet with bad times I know a Christ loving radical giver will be close by to help you out. Love to ya

  • Just because they are poor doesn't mean they are lazy. The majority of the poor in the rest of the world (that is not America) work very hard for the little money that they have. How much hard work does Paris Hilton do for her millions?

  • you have a point. i agree

  • The average CEO works for hours and hours each day, travels to countries and barely gets to be with his family and friends (I know someone who is an executive who earns 5 million per year only because he works hard and used to be a low class citizen). MOST people who make lots of money are intelligent and hard working. They are also givers (Bill Gates & Warren Buffett have given billions being the richest. Charity and distribution of wealth are two different things, only the ignorant mix 'em up.

  • So in our society a man or woman is to be respected/rewarded for 'barely spending time with their family'? It's supposed to be an admirable thing that someone works so hard for monetary gain that they don't get to raise their children? We may be called to leave our family for Christ if need be, but certainly not for excessive amounts of money - even if that money provides our family with (excessive) material benefit.

  • I hear you man. I voted your comment up. People, have you ever worked at a factory? Maybe as a summer job or something...Have you watched those people work? See how they spend their day? It kinda clarifies why they aren't being paid $1,500/hour, :-P

  • Yes they work hard and they are intelligent . Poor ppl also work very hard and have nothing to show for it . The rich get richer and the poor get poorer . Money can be such a trap

  • the poor are some of the hardest working people in the world. Just look at sweat shops...

  • One thing people also seem to forget...according to recent tax research, these "10%" of the wealthiest Americans account for over 60% of taxes paid last year. That's right, the richest 10% of Americans account for OVER 60% of taxes paid.

  • there is no law stating that any of us have to pay income tax, and those numbers are skewed as well. Listen to chris rock, if you make 500 thousand and you take 30 percent and you can afford to not pay interest on things, its no big deal. its a huge deal when you only make 20 thousand.

  • Good point. Also, I LOVE how everyone talks about the "Richest 10 percent" I am far from those 10 percent folks, but I do know this... Did you know??? That those individuals in the US that have more than 1.5Million or 3.5 million if they are married, pay up to 50% Estate Tax?? That means currently, if you have, lets say... 5 Million dollars and you pass away, your tax bill is approx 2.5Million dollars. The wealthy pay for it in the end.

  • I guess you can say they "made it rain" What I want to know is, why do people target "Wall Street" only? How about Puff Daddy, who owns a 3.5million dollar penthouse in NYC for his CLOTHES? How about 50Cent, who cleared 500Million on the Vitiman Water buy-out? Why is it always the Wall Street folks?

  • Wall Street is practiclly the capital of capitalism. It is the symbol of wealth in America. Naturally, it makes the most sense to have such a demonstration there.

  • I totally agree...

I can't even count the times I've watched this video. I LOVE it!!! Thank you Jamie!!!

  • this is my favorite video on youtube. by far.

  • Cool.

  • There is enough for everyones need. Indeed !!! Everyone needs to keep their eyes wide open. For themselves and for their brothers and sisters. Check out the video on myspace from a group called bluekarma. It is an awesome video and I think it helps spread the word, LOVE CAN CONQUER ALL !!!! The Love of money is the root of all evil - The Bible

  • Indeed! Another world is possible!

  • halleluja!

  • CEO's aren't more productive simply better at writting checks, just ask the former CEO of Home Depot (can't remember his name off hand) who walked away with a quarter of billion dollars compensation for 5 years as a mediocre CEO.

Or Steve Schwarzman of Blackstone group who made 1.5 billion when the company went public and paid a mere 7% effective tax rate (not the 15% as is commonly mentioned)

On the other hand 7% of 1.5 billion is more than me and my extended family will make in a life time.

  • Jesus christ. Here's an idea, try taking an introductory economics class. Is it possible that the productivity rate for an average worker has not increased? Perhaps the average CEO is more productive and more skilled than the average US worker.

  • but then we have to ask, why is this happening? better schooling, more resources (or even just resources in general), or any other thing. these guys are on the street with no jobs, no work experience, while there are guys in the corporate jobs living it up. Now there are plenty of reasons why, but let's throw 'em out? its not about the logistics of our economic i don't think, its about coming together and helping eachother out because we love eachother! "Life's better with good friends!"

  • i'm just starting to get into what shane claiborne even though what seems like his heart's intent is nothing new. and as beautiful as this video seems, i don't ever remember hearing or seeing any real help. that free money is destined to perish, as well as our bodies on earth. so why isn't there any eternal gift giving?

  • Our father who aret in heaven, holy be your name, thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom the power and the glory forevermore, Amen. Now if that doesnt scream that our salvation is of a holistic nature then I dont know what does. We need to get past our dualistic mindset and wash some feet!

  • We need more owners and workers entering into mutually beneficial relationships. We do not need more laws, regulations, and forced redistribution.

  • hah! that's a great comment, ryan1021! I didn't know that.

  • Makes me wanna ROCK and ROLL coins for the needy here in Little Rock, AR. God Bless you, Shane.

  • we can only hope, its what keeps us going, but dont kid yourselves folks, it is only us dreamers who believe in change..... start by not electing another Bush, stop by not killing those who speak (and are heard)for the poor...keep up the good dream....Paul from ireland.....

  • How? how do I do this? I trust Jesus enough to not feel guilty... but how do I trust Him enough to love radically and give up my life when I need to provide for my wife to be? I've been wrestling with this for a long time... help me.

  • Community. Life's better with good friends.

  • @jamiemoffett

    Amen!

  • You are your wife both will have to look at life and decide to take only enough. It will not look normal, and people will hate you for it. Being a friend and taking care of needs are not to be done only when love is felt, but rather as a humble trust that results in obedience. 1 John - If you love God, you obey his commands. His commandment is love (putting the needs of others above your own)/ You and your wife can teach your children the meaning of this.

  • dude, thats where faith comes in, you need to have the faith to give up everything and trust in gods provision, not yours. read matthew 6:25 do not worry :)

god will take care of you, my dad was called into the heart of africa and he had me my brother and my mom to take care of, and we were missionaries for years often encountering life threatening situations but god always provided :) have faith brother

  • Thank you Jamie for posting the video... I'm fighting back tears as I type! Love wins.

  • Does anyone know who sings the song at the end of the video?

  • That's Anne Weiss. Check her out at Potter Street Records (dot com)

  • Very inspiring. If you liked the video, read Irresistible Revolution by Shane Claiborne.

We need more of this in our every day lives. We need to be this love.

  • I've watched this video at least 20 times in the last 24 hours...

You guys give me so much hope. Thanks, Jamie. You rock. (I met you one time at something that sounded like a potato... PAPA Fest, could it be?) ;)

  • Jamie everytime i see this i just want to cry and holler for joy!!!

It is so awesome and speaks volumes of what we can do if we turn our money over to love

  • Glad you like it!

  • So much love.
