Ten brave heroes, Freedom is a right, a right they fought and died for, these men refused to live below a foreign flag, and any man or women who does that is truely free.
if this clip is about an ira hungerstriker then the music is totally inappropriate because it is calling republicans zombies because they take orders like any other army
I love this song, I love the film. to the ten brave men your lives were not given in vein. your spirits live in the souls of all true Irish . May god bless you all, Tiocfaidh Ar La.
Not in vain! Are you out of you're mind? Where are they now and where are the leaders of the IRA whom they died for? WASTE is what it was - dead puppets all of them!
I dearly love this movie and I stand up for their rights. I do wish to have a copy of this movie but I have been told that I no longer can purchase this one for it has been discontinued. I dearly would love to have a copy on video/or dvd.
you must install the ARES PROGRAM. Then search it by the title of the film, wait few hours and you can wach it in you computer, an d keep it if you like.
Then write the name in search: some mothers son, wait few minutes and you ll see it, click transfer an wait few hours, it depends of how many people have the film. You be able to wach the full film. Hope you lucky, and let me know.
sorry for my english i lived in dublin at the time the hunger strike (long ago), it was a very important period in my life also.
Thanks for the update, Nallyterrace. so are you saying the new government with Gerry Adams & Ian Paisley ( retired now) is a mockery? In Holland there is almost no news about this.
i don't know too much about this but after the war of independance in 1922 the 6 counties of northen ireland were left out of the free state as they had an overall protestant majority. you could find out on wikipedia.
Can anyone tell me what went on in 1916 with the six counties in detail? Or where on the net I can find good unbiased info on this? Thanks in advance.
In 1916 Irish rebels seized buildings in Dublin in what was known as the Easter Rising; it was possibly the most significant moment in Irish political history as it signalled the beginning of the War of Independence. In 1920 this war was ended with a notorious Treaty in which the British insisted that Ireland could have its independence if 6 counties in Ulster remained British territory. The alternative for the Irish was a "total war". So in 1921 Ireland was partitioned.
Originally it had been planned for the province of Ulster to remain British but overall this province had a Catholic/Nationalist majority. So it was decided to exclude 3 counties of the province from the new British state: Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal. Two other counties with Catholic/Nationalist majorities, Tyrone and Fermanagh were not excluded because the new state had to be geographically large enough to survive. So, pardon my beliefs, but Northern Ireland really is a mockery of democracy.
I love the Cranberries seen them 2 or 3 times when they toured and i have always loved this song ...United Ireland and Scotland xxx
Celtic Fc ,Scotland And Ireland forever part of my heart and soul..This song is pretty powerful ...I wish i could get my hands on this dvd .Tiocfaidh ár lá,xxx
jesus, one of the worst deaths these men went through, stailc ocrais, great video. great performance, meon na saoirse, agus suas na oglaigh na h-eireann
Back in the days when the IRA were real heroes, not like now, where they are just criminal scum dealing in drugs and what not. Sinn Fein are no better, with there neo-Marxist ideas, so much for nationalism.
although this movie is just made up it symbolisies the tyrany that margret thatcher and co put these men through.... these men wer from our communities like twinbrook south armagh andytown they didnt die for so that their communiteis could be overrun by drug dealers and british police forces-Keep both kinds of scum out
I have this movie on video but it really needs to be on DVD. Great performances all around, and of course, there's no such thing as too much Aidan Gillen.
Irish lives for Irish freedom...would love to see brits starve themselves for something other than greed. And for the record Gerry and Martin have given nothing up that wasn't earned.
and as a side note...the prod govt would have turned sides years ago if dublin could have fostered them money wise, turned sides so fast it would have made the crown spin.
I think Ulster should remain British and I really dislike the IRA and all the splinter factions but it is quite admirable how dedicated the hunger strikers were. I can honestly respect anyone who is that dedicated to their beliefs to give up their lives.
how can you say that? do you have any idea how brutal the british have been to the irish? do you know nothing about the viciousness of the black and tans and the protestant paramilitaries? the IRA began as defense for the Irish people against this brutality and oppression, and it remains so. Remember that not all who use the name "IRA" truly represent the republican movement.
Absolutely Love this movie!! God bless the 10 and many others who sacrificed themselves in the name of ireland!!!! tiocfaidh ar la!! our day will come!
"Based on the true story of the 1981 hunger strike in a British prison, in which IRA prisoner Bobby Sands led a protest against the treatment of IRA prisoners as criminals rather than as prisoners of war. The film focuses on the mothers of two of the strikers, and their struggle to save the lives of their sons."
does anyone have film clips of this without music? Just dialogue from the film? Thats what I am looking for. Brilliant film. It needs to be shown in the States more often.
found this information: "'Zombie' was inspired by a child's death. His life was taken in the arm's of his mother in London. There was a bomb planted in a rubbish bin in London and he happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and he died. The reason the bomb was planted was because of a political territorial kind of thing that goes on in the North of Ireland and the UK. So the references to 1916 was when a contract was signed, which signed away the 6 counties to England."
Ah... So it would have been a bomb from the IRA. don't worry, I know quite a bit about the rebellion of 1916, 1921 and the civil war which ensued. :) Sad really :( Thanks for the info :)
