Ok. I have now taught the hand touch, and this is working very well. She keeps her attention for a little while but sometimes looks away or down. When she does this what should I do? Thanks!
very good! He looks just like my dog. can you explain how you get him to pay attention (look up) all the time during heelwork? do you use treats? I would love to do this.
In competitive obedience in Ireland and the UK the handlers hold their hands on their hips as you can see (more or less) The dog is thought a hand touch and that when he looks at the left hand he will get lots of rewards! Gradually as you raise your hand the head rises and his body starts to come closer. In Europe they do not use their hands but they work on eye contact. Problem with that is the heelwork becomes very loose! Look at "Crufts Obedience" on U-tube and see British and Irish obedience
Very Promising Heelwork for 7 months!! But don't over-do-it!! He is only 7 months!! A little more motivation e.g. playing with toys when rewarding and playing I think is needed or maby the video didn't give this justice!! Well done!!
