like you know in which circumstances canas has been taken out of the tour...
his sample was positive for a diuretic called hydrochlorothiazide, a substance with no benefits in itself other than as treatment for hypertension.
no traces of any other forbidden substance were found in canas sample, and the medicament (for a sore throat) was prescribed by ATP doctors Mercader and Chinchila during the Acapulco open.
@KenzoIMP well if it is such an injustice like you said im sure he could have appealed and had the ban removed! And no doctor would prescribe a diuretic for a sore throat.....
@AceGuitarR7 And his firepower, both from the forehand and the backhand! it was amazing.. It somehow seems people already forgot how much better he used to be...
Funny, me and some friends went to Crandon Park to hit at the stadium court back in the spring (Sony Ericsson wasn't going on, the grounds were dead) and Canas was getting out of a Cayenne, looked like he was there to give a lesson to some kid.
The most incredible is Canas had to qualify for this tournament. And he managed to reach the final! Before doing it he defeated only top-players: Henman, Gasquet, Ferrero, number one Federer, Robredo and Ljubicic!
He lost to Djokovic in the final (6-3 6-2 6-4) but he was exhausted...
wow Cañas is the must pusher pro player i have ever seen. i feel sorry for federer for having to play against this pusher its just terrible to watch Cañas hit his ugly forehand ohhh u feel sick after watching him :(
for me the problem is Federer never play good in Miami, yes he won in 2 times... but many years alot of bad matches and loses like this one, i dont think he feels the crowd who are mostly pro latin-american
@Mirren81 because miami and indian wells is slow high bouncing hard court which is similar to clay only because its hard and u can't slide as much. Federer isn't half as good in slow hard courts.
omg. great match. I miss the federer of that time...sharp and deep! oh well, still loving his game...GREAT vid btw. Canas fought this one out, so he deserved it. However, ederer's game was seriously clean too
@KenzoIMP that horrible doping...cañas had one and a half year suspension for a medicine that gave him an atp doctor, and gasquet a few months cause the cocaine in his blood was for a kiss. atp is a shame
@KenzoIMP I'll remember this match as Canas being doped up to the gills again on his return, before promptly dropping to 79 in the rankings in 2008 and then in the 100's in 2009 and never doing anything useful again; definition of clampdown and absolutely shagged performance. Canas is a fucking disgrace.
A mis buenos amigos argentinos, chinguen a su putisima madre los que crean que canas es mejor que federer...le debieron hacer un anti-dopping despues de este partido...credibilidad zero -
I love Fed too and will always be a die-hard roger fan, but cmon "he had a blister" on his foot, so it doesnt count lol. Really? Well how about when he had a virus growing on his foot in the same tournament 2 years ago, and still managed to beat Nadal in 5. Federer lost this match because Canas was the better player that day...certainly not bc of a petty blister on his foot
1:58 is just sick GodSkills....extreme angle flick backhand then sidespin dropper....like how do you even contemplate that play ESPECIALLY in the middle of a tough rally against a guy chasing every ball down
haha, you're wrong. look at the follow through and the nature of the swing, it was fluid. he manipulated his usual follow through to get the angle. please...that was intentional.
I think you're wrong. I play D1 Tennis and your arguement of saying the follow through and nature of the swing is fluid is not good enough to say it was a clean hit. As you know the majority of semi-pro and professional Tennis players have a good technique and when they do mistime the ball the technique is EXACTLY the same when hitting a clean shot; the key difference is the timing. Fed is very capable of hitting such a shot, but there it seemed off-time, by the noise and his head positioning.
That wasnt manipulating any kind of shot, he tried to hit a topspin backhand to Canas weaker side (a tactic he used throughout this match with agression), but mistimed it but fortunately for him, landed at quite a favourable position to finish the point in different ways; in his case a very good side-slice dropshot
lol funny thing was Canas was never supposed to be in the tournament in the first place, he lost in the qualis to some nobody but then someone dropped out of the main draw, so he went in as a "lucky loser". Oh well, steroid boy had his moment of fame...
canas is an asshole

Dom20002007 4 months ago
@Dom20002007 well, of course he appealed, and the time was reduced to half, because even if it wasnt intentional, he took the medicine.
Also, the doctor didint give him a diuretic, but a medicine, WHICH had the diuretic.
Anyways, I think this whole thing was a long time ago.

If you consider the weapons Canas has, and who he is playing, I am afraid that's the only game plan he can use.
IvanAndreevich 1 year ago
Besides, you have to admit that he's keeping the ball incredibly deep, which is part of the reason why Fed made tons of UEs.
Furthermore, in the TBs he played his share of aggressive points. Came to net.

i remember that comeback of canas
after the antidoping incident...
its a shame he is not playing at THIS level anymore, but it was a great moment of his career.
I m from argentina, but of course, i dont think canas is better than federer, thats ridiculous.
but I think it was a great moment for canas, and all the sacrificies he did back then, worth it.
I ll remember this match as best of canas.

@devilemperor123 I totally agree with that.
Right now, we are watching the best moment of tennis,
I mean, we are watching federer, nadal.
But still, its a shame the ATP its still doing those things,
like the times you can use a hawk eye, or the ATP calendar.
