  • Minnesota born and raised, currently in a southern Illinois hotel. Traveled all over the states for work and after seeing all America has to offer, nothing comes close, not by a long shot, of sitting by a glass calm northern lake, by the fire with crickets and frogs singing, and hearing the chilling but beautiful choir of the loons. Always loved the loons but never realizied how much I miss them until i'm far away from them.

  • @noisypipes05 Makes me feel homesick for you!!! Lovely imagery in your comment...

  • beautifully scary!!

  • This chills my bones. In sweden they are believed to be the sound of drowned souls, amongst other things. Really beatiful.

  • The video didn't have another call Loons can make, it sounds crazy! It would wake you up at night because it sounded like the Loon was getting attacked or something.

  • Sounds almost like a wolf's howl.

  • Family Guy?! Seriously?! That abomination of a TV show is what introduced you to this beautiful animal? You need to get out more.

  • Family guy? Fuck that; I live in Canada.

  • i knew about loons way before family guy

  • @thestarwarsfan12345 i knew the sound of them since i was little there so pretty but never knew the animal that made them till i watched FG then i could look them up lol

  • @thestarwarsfan12345 Same. minnesota pride ! ;)

  • O.o there are people who don't know what loons are..? What next, people don't know what whoopie pies are... *Obviously needs to get out of Maine*

  • Family Guy brought me here! Ha.

  • Haha seems like Family Guy is kinda the place where a lot of people find stuff like this... Cuz that's where I got this... And i have a question is the Loons in Washington State?

  • This is one of the sounds I'd like to hear before I die.

  • NO, NO, NOT THE LOON! FUNNY FUNNY LOON LOON!

  • I always thought wolves made that noise. Thank you Family Guy.

  • Family guy mentioned this animal, I came here just to see what it was :P

  • @littlejapan3 Ahahahaha! Me too!

  • @littlejapan3

me too, i heard it before and i wanted to know what bird makes this beautifully haunting song.

  • @littlejapan3 OMG same here dude! I actually always loved this bird call but never knew what it's called! It was like an epiphany when Family Guy mentioned it. Thank you Family Guy!

  • @littlejapan3 Lol I just did the same thing :D

  • @littlejapan3 holy shit yes!

  • can you narrate my life

  • @whodafuckfarted lmao nicee

  • I remember being in Algonquin Park, it was dead of night, I was on a pebble beach, and the Aurora Borealis started. Some loons started calling (in response?). It was truly surreal.

  • ima beast loon, i fly

  • Loon: Marco?

    Other Loon: Polo!

    Loon: Marco?

    Other Loon: Polo! XD

  • Its amazing how they sounds like wolfs. Or at least to me.

  • Lovely, evocative loon calls polluted by officious intrusive imbecile narrator.

  • And that ladies and gentlemen,is why the loon is my all time favorite animal.:)

  • Maine too.

  • The crow is my bird, but, Dad,....picked a really cool bird, too!!!

  • One of my favorite things about going to Maine to visit my grandparents. Loons have such beautiful sounds.

  • love these narrated videos really cool. the loon sound is soo unearthly.

  • You may here sounds like voices, but they are the loons down south towards prospect

  • I can make the owl whistle and a loon whistle. There my two favorite animals. <3

  • one of the best sounds on the face of the earth

  • So beautiful sound

  • My vote for eeriest sound for Halloween, I know it is just a bird... but have you ever heard one... with the lights down low.. all alone.......

  • So wild !!!! So beautiful!!!

  • So ethereal and lovely. There's no other sound like it.

  • One of the most haunting sounds. It brings tears to my eyes.

  • most eerie sound, brings shivers down my spine!

  • @orrinaleron We are all, multi-personal, there is nothing wrong with loving the nature.

  • @orrinaleron Actually, I do, sometimes. But it doesn't stop me from loving the loons.

  • This guy should write intros to books.

  • That's the mating call the herbivorous bird mouths in Spore make, isn't it?

  • MINNESOTA= BEST STATE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nothing like the loon call. My grandparents' cabin on a lake in MT was a frequent vacation spot for family. We always heard the loons at dusk and at dawn. I now listen to a CD of nature sounds including loon calls sometimes when I'm going to sleep. The loon calls take me right back to that wonderful lake and cabin and the surrounding woods.

  • I heard my first loon call at a friend's cabin during summer about five years ago in eastern Manitoba. I will never forget that sound. It seems like they're the wolves of the bird world. Obviously not for habits and actions but just for that haunting call.

  • Somehow loons seem the wisest of all creatures. They seem to sense when i am nervous or scared, by myself in my cottage during an august night. As I lay under the covers with a book, I suddenly hear them, there blood curdling call saying:"i'm here, don't worry, your'e not alone" Then I feel at peace. The next morning I wake up and I see a loon peacefully floating really close to my dock, and I wonder if it's been there all night. With me, until the sun's rays come out and I don't feel so alone..

  • It's more than haunting . It's blood-curdling

  • This is by far the best bird and possibly animal sound on the planet.

  • The bird is the word.

  • they're definitely my favorite bird, it's call gives me chills.

  • I think I would have mistaken them for wolves...

  • Such an iconic bird, it's even a currency.

  • always got a mystical song to it

  • ;~; soooooooooo pretty

  • I wonder what would happen if it got angry hope it doesnt blow up lol

  • Tumbs up if you got her from Reddit

  • *Presses play* ... *Pauses* Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope.

  • I don't get why people are already so scared of Enderman.

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE, that would make enderman way too scary

  • ENDERMAN

    DONT LOOK AT IT

    KILL IT KILL IT

  • Def enderman

  • endermen?

    reddit?

  • @ORPHANSINABLENDER reddit just gives you viruses. you shouldnt go to it.

  • @renegade770 cant tell if trolling or just very stupid

  • Loons are so cool! I remember being up in Wisconsin and I saw a Loon dive under the water, surface twenty feet away, and scared a flock of ducklings. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen!

  • 0:33

  • your voice and experiences is not what i asked for. I was looking for a video not a narrator

  • i remember when i woke up at camp for the first to this and i was terified

  • I have to say.. I live in Ontario, Canada and everytime I am camping and hear the calls of the loon, it tears me up in a way I wanna cry.. their call is just so haunting and beautiful!

  • Definitely spooky, but still one of the most inexpressibly lovely things I've ever heard.

  • i was just in maine for a week and i saw one while canoeing but i didnt hear any :(

  • p.s. only ignorant people would dislike

  • for some reason

  • kinda reminds me of E.T.

  • The most relaxing and mystifying sound in all of nature

  • just spent three beautiful days camping the loons singing is the most soothing sound ive ever heard

  • You look to the lambent, glowing stars in the cerulean sky, and then back to their shimmering reflection on the lake before you. A dark silhouette drifts across the water, leaving a rippling wake on the still surface. A wailing, mournful cry suddenly resonates through the mountains. It echoes through the night, a voice to the souls pure of heart.

  • The first time i heard this amazing bird was in Boom Lake in Banff National Park. Since then i fell in love with it. I cant describe what it makes me feel, im in love with nature and this sound is just like a kiss to my ears =)

  • Sounds almost like elk.

  • Hey Hoser, love to hear those satanic birds call their master to creep into the minds of those who are foolish enough to heed their wicked cries

  • it sounds like wolves O.O awesome!

  • Beautifully explained beautifully done...thanks for posting this video

  • I literally got chills watching this. Simply amazing.

  • camping in Parry Sound, we'd hear them all the time...the BEST voices....haunting but peaceful at the same time.

  • In Minnesota the sound is kind of irritating. Its just such a loud, wailing, painful sound.

  • i will be moving to Maine on a lake where there is about 8 or more loons on a large lake ,i cant wait .

    very nice

  • It would be interesting to put wolf howls on the site juxtaposed with the calls of the loon to hear how they differ.

  • It would be interesting to put wolf howls on the site juxtaposed with the calls of the loon to hear how they differ.

  • So beautiful... yet, very much creepy. I cant sleep when I hear them at night xD

  • 1 person hates life

  • beautyful birds i love the haunting but peaceful sound they make we really do need to stop polluting it hurts birds like these

  • I grew up in Scotland so had never heard loons until one night on a lake in the Adirondacks. The first time I heard it sent a shiver up my spine - it sounded so haunting. Then when I knew what it was I grew to love and think of it as the sound of outdoors NW USA.

  • @dlmackie123 there are three types of "loon" in Scotland- we jsut call them divers

  • @achillessniper I did not know that and have never heard them call in scotland like I did in US.

  • We just got back from the Chippewa State Forrest in Crosslake MN. Our final morning, Sunday, we were treated to just those very sounds for a good 1/2 hour. Those loons made up for all 10,000 mosquito bites I received during our 5 day trip. :)

  • Beautiful!! Thanks for the video.

  • Loons are everywhere on lakes in Canada. Absolutely beautiful, not in any harm♥

  • @sammelina12 they winter in the Gulf so yes they are in a great deal of danger! While some seem to be returning we have no idea what effect the polluted water will have on the health of these birds over the course of the next few years.

  • They are soooo beautyful!

    soo relaxing!

  • As a boy spending Summers at the family camp in Maine, this has brought me back to simpler times when the loons "sang" me to sleep! Just Great!!

  • 1 person lives on a loon farm lol

  • i hate that i am not the 1 dislike

  • Being a Minnesotan, I love this. I first learned about Common Loons around the second grade and just fell in love with them. It's amazing to actually see one up close.

  • I'M A LOON FAN!!!

  • Hey buddy, don't forget the Northern NH Woods!

    great video, brings me back...

  • AWESOME!

  • Every night and every morning in Northern Minnesota I listened to the sound of the northwoods. Loons will always be the most beautiful sound to my ears. The somewhat haunting yet intoxicatingly relaxing sound just gets my mind at ease. I miss hearing them every night!

  • It really helps form it's sound with the natural reverberations across the water.

  • It sounds so much like a wolf howl.

  • The most beautiful sound in the world, and thanks to your lovely little video, my very young grandson knows the sound too! Just great.

  • I am from the Chazy Lake area, not too far from Lake Placid. Where did you visit??

  • If I heard that I'd think it was coyote. It's beautiful.

  • so awesome a

  • I live in Northern MN and here them all the time. They are the most beautiful bird ever. Don't let them fool you though, they can be very feisty if you get near them or their babies. Nothing better than sitting by the fire and hearing them. Or waking up to them hooting and hollering at 6 AM. Beautiful

  • any time I go to a friends cottage I seem to sleep much better when I hear the loons
