First off, the horsepower is not equal. The 20-cylinder EMD 645 engine gave off 3,600 hp while the 16-cylinder EMD 645 gave off 3,000 hp. And it was proven by Santa Fe that the 45 had better hp/gallon of fuel than the SD40-2. The reason some railroads were turned off to the 45 was not because of the fuel economy but because the prime mover was so powerful it would break it's own crankshaft.
Did you see the title of the video; 'E-L Legacy'? We are just huge fans of the Erie-Lackawanna and were very excited to see a former EL locomotive on a mainline train. After the Conrail split they were moved to the Shared Assets territory in New Jersey and rarely leave. This was in Ohio on former E-L trackage no less.
First off, those are 40-2 numbers. I would've noticed the longer radiator fan and the horn off-set on the far side of the locomotive. You obviously have no idea how personal/special this video is for some of us so just go away.
the SD45-2 provides 13% more horsepower with only 10% more fuel consumption. it is slightly more efficient, what doomed the 20 cylinder engine was the tendency for the crankshaft to crack.
NERD FIGHT NERD FIGHT NERD FIGHT NERD FIGHT!!!!

I am sad to report this but all of CSX's SD45-2s are off the roster. This one and one other have been downgraded to SD40-2 specifications.

ok, now im assuming (hoping) that means they are still running, but with 16 cylinder engines in them. at can live with that (barely)
