i'm a new support worker near manchester and think, from my own experience, it'd have been much better if my group had perhaps a week on theory such as policies, procedures etc but then went straight into our work; i'm still training at college right now and this 'drips and drabs' way of learning (college to hospital to college...) is ridiculous, and i know i'd learn a lot more if my mentor just talked me through stuff on the ward so i had a chance to do it straight away n so on
