If you guys dont mind torrents, there's someone on The Pirate Bay (and Demonoid) that converted the old Laserdisc to a DVD so you can download and burn it yourself if you want...
I was a kid when this came out, and I missed ever catching it on cable, but I just watched it (Netflix), and I didn't miss anything. A lot of good film wasted.
I'm not sure if this film is a mess or a work of genius. Either way, I really enjoy watching it. I especially like is atmosphere - and the bad-meets-badder idea involving the Nazis and Molesar.
One of the best vampire movies! i love how this takes vampire lore on a new level as Molesar is an unconventional vampire that drains energy instead of blood and was considered the origin of vampire lore. It's very much like Lifeforce, Sleepwalkers, Not of this Earth, The Buck Rogers space vampire episode and Captain Kronos on vampires that drain energy instead of blood.
@Johnlindsey289 Is that what the creature was?.. A vampire! Im reading the book right now to understand the movie better. It doesnt look like a vampire? It looks alien.
Well it's not a traditional vampire movie as i have explained Molesar is the source of vampire legends including the way he drains his victims without a bite but energy sucking instead as some of the folks changed all that stuff and he can get killed in the chest with a special staff like a vampire would die. even Killer Klowns is a vampire movie you know.
To see the full film, 'The Keep', please see 'Under the Spell of the Fasces pt.19 The Keep'; the entire series deals with Nazi zombification techniques (Muselmanner) ...
Wasn't the original unreleased cut of this film about four hours long? I'd read that the Paramount version of this film was horribly condensed. Am I wrong?
@84heroes1 i agree except with you bashing No Country for Old men. I did not mind the ending because it was something i did not expect, whereas you sooo often get to see people getting murdered in films it was nice to have the main character being killed off-screen for a change.
@ghastlygah You are right. There will never be any more really great scifi or fantasy movies I don't care how good the plot is! Just think if Close Encounters of the Third Kind or Alien , The Thing ,C.H.U.D ,Conan The Barbarian etc were done with glossy hollow CG.I would rather see rubber suits, claymation, and models . The most insulting thing ever is that Battlestar Galactica remake. How dare they take something I grew up with and change it all and then add all that horrible CG.
I remember this movie terrifying me as a child. Then I was browsing on netflix and I had been thinking of this movie for years but couldn't think of the movie. Low and behold when I read the description immediately..... I knew what it was.... Brought back memories of being told "NO"... HAHA i love being 28 and coming back to things like this when I was a child.
This movie is fucking awesome!

Michael Mann and Criterion should team up and release a special edition Blu-ray, the longer cut, if there is one.

To be at the theater for this on opening weekend for the 70 mm and six track Dolby Stereo treatment must've been worth the $2.50 a ticket to watch.
