Cuban National Ballet is one of the only 2 surviving Companies that still does the Petipa/Ivanov/Sergueiev-preserved/Fedorova version...the original one. Mme. Alicia Alonso, along with Sir Peter Wright from the Royal Ballet of London are to be thanked for preserving this treasure, so oftenly shadowed by many pastiches and "versions" nowadays.

actually alicia alonso rechoreographed nutcracker a bit of a while ago... she stated in all posters and articles about the show.

Mme. Alonso is linked to the first original production of the SPF PDD autside Russia, the one done by Sergueiev from the Stepanov notations at the Vic-Wells, London, during the 30's,which Alicia Markova premiered. Later on Alonso compared this version that she knew via Markova to the one Alexandra Fedorova, a former Imperial Ballerina, had brought to the Ballet Russes in US, and the PDD was identical. That's the version that she premiered at Ballet Nacional de Cuba in 1998. Highly accurate.

yo estuve ahi, en ese festival en la habana en 1998 y la conoci por 1º vez a Lorna, la mejor bailarina cubana lejos...fue hermoso conocerla!
