the vast majority of people think that ballet is a world of "rich princesses who love combining shades of pink." these people should see this video to see how it hurts to be trying hard, using the latest energy that I have in my 81 pounds to make the most giving, and never come out perfect, the teacher always sees something wrong in what you do. . sometimes left the classroom crying, not only for pain, but for the pression. After all, I would give up ballet for nothing.
I've found that when ballet teachers really think you're hopeless, they just stop correcting you. They just ignore you. When they think you have talent and might actually be good, they correct you, which may sound mean sometimes, but it's critisizm that makes you better... though this might be slightly extreme...
I guess this type of teaching works for some, otherwise Russia wouldn't be a top country in terms of ballet. Maybe this is the extreme, but I can still recall many prima ballerinas from different nations mentioning horror stories from their training years. Aurelie Dupont would say it was "too much" and how it took an emotional toll on her. Even Darcey Bussell would cry her eyes out day after day. I guess the extreme training competes with the extreme love for this passion to see who makes it.
I actually wish I went to a studio like this. This is what the real world is like. There is no emotion in the world. People are mean. How else are you going to make your dream? Surely not by being artistic. You have to be good. I know it is sad and unfortunate but this is how the world works.
I used to go to a studio like this and I was an amazing dancer. I had to switch and now my school is more laid back. I hate it. I'm not as good anymore because there is no one there to drive me.
Those of you who think ballet happens only when the curtain goes up need to realise that to be a good classical dancer means very very hard work under very demanding teachers, who has to teach you how to work before teaching you how to dance. I've seen so many dancers who haven't made a career because their teachers were not tough enough. Here's some advice for you younger dancers: Never more than THREE years with the same teacher while you are learning. Oksana's teacher is merely doing her job.
ive gone to ballet multiple times with an empty hungry feeling in my stomach bc i havnt ate dinner. i can still dance, you just have to push aside the hungry feeling , ballerinas are good with pain (at least i am)
You've been dragged from the grave and forced to work!
You're like a stuffed dummy!
You idiot, you haven't done it right once! Not once!
I'm telling you, you're insolent!
You have to kill yourself to get the class to work to do anything!
Wow, wow, wow.... Must be cold war military ballet monster, Stalin style! That winch should be a drill sergeant! No, wait, drill sergeants have respect for their men!
My dance teacher would yell but he would have not said that the class didnt do anything. He would just stop the music and make us do it again & make us do it right
oh God...she sounds like my first piano teacher...but I must say that despite all the tears and hard work, without her training I wouldn't have amounted to anything.
These days in the Vaganova they actually do not have teachers like these anymore. They have been replaced with younger, more mellow teachers, but the pressure is still rough.
This is the saddest thing I have ever seen in my whole dancing life. Ballet slices through fat that is true, but they're not going to improve since there is not enough meat on them to even dance. I bet this is why there is few pro Russian ballet dancers.
This is not the Ballet I know. The Ballet I know means making art with your dance, lots of positive and beautiful feelings, and enjoying while doing it. And this teacher... she's horrible, it made me cry. Poor girls :(
@carmetalovespcsm Just because she is mean does not mean she is an awful teacher. Allot of directors are that way so when they make it big they will get used to it
@carmetalovespcsm i know, me too! what is it with all these recent films that depict ballet like a horror world? it's making everyone think that the discipline of dance involves a load of psychological torture.
Sorry to be breaking it up to you, but most probably the ballet you know is recreational and not professional. Because in professional ballet schools this is how it is and it is just the beginning. You should get tough enough because it's a harsh world out there. And nobody cares if you have suffered, had fun, cried or enjoyed the whole process. All they wanna know is how you dance.
@carmetalovespcsm I agree. But the Russian ballerinas are no joke. Every time I watch this, I wonder what would happen and how free they would feel if we brought them all to America.
How can one be an artistic dancer if their body has no fuel to propel them? A dancer needs too much strength to be burdened by such horrible women who are obviously living their dream through others. My heart goes out to these girls. They will never be the dancers they could be, because their bodies are too weak to create art. The blonde girl seemed to use every ounce of energy just to stand en pointe. Poor poor girls.
Perm was always the strictest school...this is horrible. how can their legs even hold them?

@MissGracieLove It's not that i look fat to myself, it's a reality.
And it's not so much, it's more than it should be in ballet.

How could she scold and hit her students like that? Their bodies are still developing and overworking them is gonna harm their health
