Can somebody (I don't care who) just tell me what happened th GNR? They were on top. No one but Metallica could come close to them. What happened? Does anyone know the truth?
@rynigin After Steven Adler was let go for his heavy drug addiction, Cult drummer Matt Sorum was brought in in I believe 1990. As Adler left Ax's emotions and demands grew more in more difficult for the rest of the band to deal with, turning him into more of a dictator to the rest of the band instead of a fellow musician. As the Use Your Illusion Tour drug on throughout the entire globe, the drag of constant late shows, insane demands and the extreme attitude of Axl Rose, the band fell apart.
@rynigin I believe it was in 1991 that Izzy Stradlin left Guns N Roses, leaving Axl completely emotionally distraught as Izzy had been his best friends his entire life. Izzy claims he had left because Axl gave him a legal document claiming that he was going to decrease his earnings from the rest of the band because he did not think he was giving enough to the band on stage, even though izzy had written most of Gun's material. He was quickly replaced by Gilby Clark.
@rynigin Gilby had been a long time friend of the band, and his playing style jelled well with Slash, as so did his image. Soon after his arrival, the riots, fights in the band and cancelled concerts grew more and more rampant. GNR was still selling out arenas and stadiums across the globe, but the concerts began to lack their luster as fans soon realized that the band had changed. Without Steven's drumming style and without Izzy's songs performances and ability to calm Axl the band had changed
@rynigin The tour ended in Argentina in 1993. By that time Slash and Axl's relationship was gone, Duff Mckagen was nearly dead from his alcoholism, and Axl was beginning to lose touch with reality, shutting many of his friends and family out of his life. When the tour came to a close GNR completely lost touch with one another, yet they managed to pull together enough communication to make one last album together, "The Spaghetti Incident." It was off course a punk cover album.
@rynigin But Guns now learned that the music industry had drastically changed. It was no longer a few major labels. Every label had disbanded in the 90's, and was then sold to smaller conglomerates and other companies. David Geffen soon retired and sold Geffen records to a company I cant think of right now. "The Spaghetti Incident" sales lacked what the other albums had accomplished, and the band entered a major hiatus.
@rynigin Slash quit in 1997 after being given another legal document from Axl, claiming that Axl wanted the rights to the band name and company, so that he could carry on the band if the lineup would ever change, and that both Slash and Duff could join this new Guns, but they would have to do everything on Axl's terms or he would have full rights to fire them. As they had done since day one, Axl and Duff both signed thinking that it would help keep Axl happy and keep the band moving forward.
@rynigin However it did not. After Slash left Duff did as well in 1998, and that was it for Guns for most people. Axl disapeared from the media for years, after promising that "Chinese Democracy" would soon be released over and over again, and after losing literally all of his original band mates, Axl found out after "Democracy" flopped in it's release that he had what he was searching for in "Democracy" the entire time, right before him. But int he end, Axl lost touch with Gun's fans, the end.
