whenever you are ready to continue working on this game, i think i have an awesome Gravity Bullet sprite sequence that would look great (im good with photoshop and whipping up nice "eye candy") lol
There will not be a Weapon Edit in this game. Come on - 10 ships each with 4 different weapon setups, plus a TOP SECRET next-gen Gradian starfighter you can find in the game that has one weapon setup? Don't you think that's a lot of weapons right there?
Hmmm... I'm also working on a Gradius Fan Game, and isn't it a tradition for Gradius games for the player to have the "one-hit-death" thing? BTW, I watched your other videos...
It is a tradition, but it's a tradition I hate, not just in Gradius, but in Shoot-Em-Ups in general. If you look at the prequel to Gradius: The Dark Armada, Unofficial Salamander 3(got a video of that on my channel), you'll notice that the ships also have Armor there. But, along with the Armor system, I try to balance it out by making the enemies a little more fierce than normal.
Continued... Even with a damage resistant ship, if you're going to make it a bullet hell type then I strongly suggest making the hitbox size just the cockpit or else there will be a lot of frustrating "OMG that bullet was nowhere near my ship!" moments XD. of course they still happen even with a small hitbox because bullets are fast and are usually as big(if not bigger) than they look. Other than that, keep going, great job! and don't make the game too short now :P
Well I'm a realy huge Gradius fan and I must say i am impressed at the amount of awesomeness in it, though I do hope you have into consideration that in most of the Gradius games, the ships colision detection(aka hitbox) is usually half the size of the ship, if not the cockpit itself. To be continued... v
Yes sir. It's a game I've had in the works since January, and as this is a much more complex game that its predecessor, Unofficial Salamander 3(my first Gradius fangame), it'll take quite a while to complete.
I am, however, readying the release of Beta 1 by August, so keep an eye out on the GameStone page for Gradius: The Dark Armada linked in the video description.
Hey, not bad so far. The Rolling Missile was a tad different in US3, but looks like it now splits when it touches the ground. Not that it was that bad in US3, but wasn't too similar to the one in Gaiden. I'll definitely help beta-test this like with Unofficial Salamander 3. :)
Are you familiar with Game Maker 7 by YoYo Games? My game engine was made using that program, so if you don't have it, you'll need to download it and pay for the full version(I'm using a paid version of the program).
Ace, I think the reason you killed things immediately behind the ship while firing the laser was because the laser had a strange hitbox that caused it to hit things far behind the sprite, which would originate from the center of your ship. There are similar effects with the laser in PCE Gradius 1 and SNES Gradius 3.
It's not because the hitbox was off in Nemesis '90 Kai. If you pay close attention to the ship when powering up, you can see the Laser being created IN THE CENTER of the engine flame. I still figured it'd be a cool thing to have the Metalion do its crazy stuff from Nemesis '90 Kai just to make it different from the other ships.
I'm still perplexed as to the invulnerability time in Nemesis '90 Kai. How does that happen?
Oh, I always thought the laser originated from the center of the ship o.o I'm going to have to boot up the old X68k emulator sometime and observe that. As for the invulnarability... the animation seems similar to the animation used in Salamander for instant respawn, I wonder if the port was going to use respawn instead of checkpoints.
Yes, this is my own creation, the sequel to my completed Gradius fangame Unofficial Salamander 3. I'll need to record a Gaming Session of the game, it's been LONG overdue.
Very nice work, can't wait to see the finished product! I was curious as to how the Metalion was going to be different, even though in the last showcase you showed only one set of weapons. Interesting additions, the booster attack reminds me of Image Fight.
I think that was actually unintentional in Nemesis '90 Kai, but that's what happens: fire the Laser, and you can use the ship's flame as a weapon. And here's something very similar to Image Fight: if you activate a Speed Up while firing the Laser, you increase the destructive range of the engine flame.

I always wanted to make a Gradius game in GM, and I probably could, but the Options are impossible XD

erickbond008 2 years ago
Nope. I will have the first playable version, Beta 1, ready by August, however, featuring the stage shown on the video.

MAXXEXTERMINATION 2 years ago
Dude, I've got better stuff to show than that for Test Video 4. Hell, what I want to show in Test Video 4 hasn't even been implemented yet!
And no, you don't keep your Options when you die. Didn't you see that in Test Video 1?

Hey, Kirgeez, if you want, you could be part of the project. I'm looking for some voice actors to voice the 11 pilots in the game.
Ace9921 2 years ago
Thats whats up I'd like that....:)
I wish i knew how to use gamemaker. But I need to learn how to create sprites and backgrounds first.
kirgeez 2 years ago
If you're up for voice acting, just record a sound clip of your natural voice(say anything you want), and send it over via PM.
