  • Merci, j'ai appris l'anglais dans les années 50 grace à H. Belafonte

  • Many thanks to Belafonte for re-popularizing calypso. The man is a giant and has a place in the calypso heavens.

However, one must also recognize that Belafonte's initial career was built primarily on covers of other calypsonians' songs. This one, for example, was done by Lord Melody of Trinidad.

Belafonte did a marvelous interview in a documentary called Calypso Dreams. It's here on youtube somewhere. If you like his music, you may well like said documentary.

  • @TriniIntel cool did you find it?

  • @BHSVAsenior2010

I'm not able to post the link but, the clip is titled:

Lord Melody "Melo" the man and his Music

  • Very nice and nostalgic. Thanks

  • shut up about obama and listen to this awesome song!

  • legendary words adewales007

  • As a matter of fact, I am. But I am a bigger fan of Dolores Cannon. Are you?

  • I think you should all shut up and listen to the tune. Just a thought.

I am happy we have a president who can structure a sentence and hopefully do a decent job.

He has just started the job, jury still out.

    End of.

    Vive Harry Belfonte

  • Look at this typical American - show him some figurative language, and his brain goes haywire.

  • lol evah seen nat king cole and belafonte perform this? sooo funny!

  • me dem dunn like also. im german, the master of dead, dey say, every fail i do in my shit life is commented evil.

    i go home some day.....

  • haha :D

  • TEE HEE shut ya moud

  • Jeeeeeeeeeeeeez, lighten up, ppl!!! Just listen to the music without whining and complaining about EVERYTHING!! Music is all about joy and happiness. If you feel something else while listening to this song, something is seriously wrong with you. I pity, the fools!!!

  • this song was originally done by lord melody and was done better imo

  • Big up Trinidad!!!!

  • Ich liebe dieses Lied! Gute Laune pur!

  • Immer wieder gut und gerne anzuhören ...

  • I used to love this song as a kid. Too bad Harry couldn't have kept his political opinions to himself.

  • harry was on the firing line the whole time......60,s 70 and 80, 2000 a quite mouth cant be heard.....thank you harry

  • Ok, cool....Mr. Belafonte is an amazing musician, but you don't agree with his political views so he shouldn't be heard. I will put aside the fact that he did many wonderful thing for the world and just say that it shouldn't matter what one's political believes are.....American's have right of free speech. Its ridiculous for you to say something like that. You may disagree with some of his views, but I urge you to look at the whole picture, he is a true humanitarian and a smart man.

  • You clearly misunderstand the message of Mr Belafonte.

  • man u r racist not him. he lived in usa for years and he was a friend of many white ppl- read a bit about him and dont trust propaganda.

and what do u have against black ppl and obama?! think a bit about ur words

  • i ll tell u the same as enam08. Everyone has right to have its own political views and he can be friend to who ever he want to.

Obama was elected legally by most of the nation and even if u dont like him u should respect the results of elections. It s the point of democracy.

About racism. Black ppl r also, in general, poorer then white ppl and have worse paid jobs and less education.

Even if not, this doesnt show that they hate all white ppl or that they r all criminals. Ur point makes no sense

  • we all have our opinion based on our life experience. Mine tells me that someone's personality doesnt depend on race or nationality but on situation that he had in life.

And I try not to judge too much other ppl bc I m never sure what I would do if I were them.

Anyway u have ur opinion, I have mine.

  • Ha... Hahahahahahahaha... HAHAHAHAHA! People like you amuse me so! Oh, the stupidity!

  • thank you! couldnt have said it better...what is it with people these days....

  • Obama is a God-send to your country, little one.

  • lol your funny dude

  • Amen!!!!

  • Obama is a God-send to every nation on Earth!

  • He is god-send to make the naive idiots realize that a black man can be just as evil as a white one.

  • I don't think you know what evil really looks like pal, all you canservatives can do is call people names and shout!

  • @legaata please kill yourself

  • i HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT THIS SONG. MY MOTHER USE TO SING IT TO ME WHEN i WAS A KID, BUT i DIDN'T KNOW WHO SANG IT.

BELAFONTE HAS BEEN AN ACTIVIST SINCE CIVIL RIGHTS DAYS AND CELEBRITY ACTIVISTS USUALLY HAVE A PUBLIC FORUM TO EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS. I JUST THINK THAT IT'S A SHAME THESE PAGES CAN'T BE KEPT FOR REVIEWING INSTEAD OF PAGES OF POLITICAL VIEWS AND NAME CALLING.

  • i jus luv dis song .. specially d line " shut ur mouth .. go away .. mama look a boo boo ..."

  • In the case of a child, it means a little cut or a bruise. It's also a silly way of referring to a mistake.
