hey im 14 and boat class 5 but i always ending up with one hand on my paddle when i come up on my back deck roll please help

@TRBxHOODLUM Its because your pulling on the blade. assuming your right handed, you backdeck left, right? and your left hand comes of the paddle? the idea of the backdeck is to capture the tension of the water on the blade using movement, not force. much like the sweep roll. Try and get a long sustained sculling motion on the paddle and only use the right blade. dont pull on the paddle, sweep it round, hip snap then forward scull/high brace it up (y)

This is a great roll for any kayaker, not just playboaters. I like to do it with my greenland or euro paddle with my aquanaut. It really helps develop a fast and powerful forward ending roll.

I just want to tell you! This video taught me how to back deck roll! a few months ago! I am now a sposered freestyle kayaker! One lil thing dont roll ur shoulders with you hips to bring your kayak upright until the last minute as this is causing your head to dip under! Try doing this without paddles aswell!

Your head doesn't have to go under. Infact i see it as a plus if it doesn't because otherwise your face is exposed to the river bed and all the nasty little rocks which want to reshape you anatomy!

I've been attempting a back deck roll off and on now for a couple of years without even coming close. After watching this video I actually got one in the pond this afternoon. It wasn't pretty, but I did come up. There's hope. Thanks!

tis a gd idea.. beter to have about 25-40 degree paddle for this.. nvm u didnt keep ur head dry.. well done tho ;)

only thing is, it would work better if ur paddle stayed ontop of the water, like wen ur sculling for support.. that sorta thing.. >.> if u underatnd :S xD nice one m8..

ur technique is shoddyy

the whole thing of backdeck role is that

there is minium resistants with the water

therefore you end up at the front of your boat when you come up

hi been trying this roll but its a killer does it matter what degree paddle you have, i am using a 45 at the momment? the guy rollin has a zero degree paddle just woundering.

i can do it fine with my 45 its confusing at first but the way i was shown to do it is to use a c1 paddle first cos u only need one blade the other gets in the way once u get the motion all right get ur normal paddle and keep doing it then becomes dry head roll :D

I am trying to do it and I can get most of the way round to the high brace position but by then my paddle way too deep and I go to high brace and it doesn't rite me and I have to roll back up and suggestions?

it depends what size you are. i am in the paddler hell of being about 185-190 lbs. the smaller boats are too small and the large boats have too much volume. being 6ft doesn't help either. i have the 88 but it has too much volume for me to throw around. i like the wavesport ezg a little better but it is all personal preference. always demo a boat before buying. paddle hard!
