@gugtheone... When you say most Bowfishermen you are way off base!!!! Don't put "Most" of us in one group because of "One" group of guys that ruined your fishing. I eat the gar I shoot and do not have any of the heads mounted because you can't eat them... Lol Just sayin "Most" is not the case in this matter.
Im with creepyjoel. bowfishin takes skill like any sport. you don't just see a fish, then shoot and your arrow go to it like a magnate. you have to aim low, know where the fish are, and know the body of water your fishing. more skill than regular fishing, then you just throw a line in the water and hook em' and reel em' up. but I do both. THeir both awesome sports.

amen.. i was on the trinity a couple of weeks ago before the rain came back and some assholes were out there shooting at bubbles.. boats were going by, some teenagers had jetskies and tubes near by and those fuckups were shooting. some one called the cops on them but they left.. its ok though cuz i got their plate numbers and am gonna pay them a visit
why do you guys hate bowfishing so much? it takes a lot of skill and paitience to do this, just like fishing. i fish a lot too, but i love to bowfish more, so i dont see why you guys get so mad about it?
who said anything about bowfishing.. what i saw was guys with pistols and shot guns shooting in a busy recreational area with kids near by.. and of course the dudes shooting were drinking beer which is really smart. if you saw what i saw and you aren't upset then you are the one with a problem.. it was dangerous and stupid what they were doing..
Because it kills the fish. It takes so long for those fish to get that big, and guys go out there and shoot them and just dump them in the water like there nothin. It's a shame.

Most bow fishermen I've met just cut a gar like thats head off for a trophy and leave its body on the bank to rot, something I will Never agree with. That and they have little respect for other fishermen, i had one boat of bow fishermen circle my boat trying to shoot a gar that was after my bait for 10 minutes, thoroughly ruining my fishing.

How far down the river are ya?
I love the fishing over at Browders Marina there where that record Gar was caught. (That dam at Lake Livingston/Trinity River on 3278)
Cant wait to get out there and start fishing for those lunker Gar!
