This song was apparently written and performed first by and American Terry Knight (as someone kindly pointed out to me).

Though with Shane singing it was huge hit and topped the charts here in New Zealand.

It was inspired by the (thankfully) incorrect rumours of Paul McCartney's death.

This sure takes me back . I was 11 when this came out. I always looked forward to the Golden disc awards. This was a great time for kiwi music, up until the mid 70's. I loved songs like 'thanks to you' and ' come dance all around the world'

Thanks so much for posting, this transports me back to the pop scene in NZ in the 60's, this won the Loxene Golden Award in 1969 for Shane Hale, it out when there were rumours Paul McCartney had died love "Natural Man' too
