Thanks for downloading this song, bringing back the memory of my teens and one of the best times of my life. Several years later I found out that Shane's Mum, a nice friendly lady was a barmaid at my local.
Great singer from a great era! Amazing how many pathetic things come here to bad mouth talent! ENVY whats it like to be full of it??? You KNOW who you are!
Unfinished sentences is a mate of terrence how little talent. I cannot stand these gutless no face talentless retards that have one claim to fame.excrement comes out of both ends!!!
@ FinishedSentences . . . Shane Hales does NOT have a drug habit, has NEVER been a bum or driven around in an old car. He does, however, have asucessful business as a tiler. One of four ain't bad.
Roger that, I played guitar for him just recently at a very big show and got to know him a bit and can quite categorically state that FinishedSentences is talking toal shit.
Apprarently he sings a few songs here and there in Auckland and lays tiles to support his drug habit. Drives round in an old car a bit of a bum according to a builder who I was just talking to about him. A very interesting so this one, though!
SHANE WAS RESIDENTS AT AUCKLANDS TOP NIGHT CLUB IN THE 1960,s THE GALAXIE IN CUSTOM ST WEST MAIN BANDS THAT PLAYED THERE WAS THE LA DE DAS .HUMAN INSTINCT .LEO DE CASTRO. UNDERDOGS...AS FOR SHANE WELL WASN,T MY CUP OF TEA IN THAT ERA ...THATS LIFE.
I was 11 when I first heard it, still play it today...now if I can get cool iris to play it...I'll be happy...I like "Come Dance Around the World" too.
This sure takes me back . I was 11 when this came out. I always looked forward to the Golden disc awards. This was a great time for kiwi music, up until the mid 70's. I loved songs like 'thanks to you' and ' come dance all around the world'
Thanks so much for posting, this transports me back to the pop scene in NZ in the 60's, this won the Loxene Golden Award in 1969 for Shane Hale, it out when there were rumours Paul McCartney had died love "Natural Man' too

The best version of this song is me and shane singing it at 3am in the morning at the Onehunga Workingmans Club .......

This song was apparently written and performed first by and American Terry Knight (as someone kindly pointed out to me).
Though with Shane singing it was huge hit and topped the charts here in New Zealand.
It was inspired by the (thankfully) incorrect rumours of Paul McCartney's death.

Im a Beatles nut but Id NEVER heard this before
sounds kinda like john denver (and the lyrics quote a john song "let me take you down" not paul!) and the horn part sounds like Johns "Hey Jude"
"I read the news today oh boy-" thats john too- no?
3.03 then he sings "lucy in the sky with diamonds" again- john!
hairypolack 2 years ago
Paul wrote Hey Jude.

@geofbrit59 This isn't Hey Jude, It's Saint Paul, there is a difference

I was only 9 when the song came out, really left an impression that holds true even today many years on. What a great music era, Scott Mckenzie etc.
