I remember seeing the BGs walkout in 1996 when it was aired. At the time Clive Anderson was known for beeing an irritating twat. However the fact that Barry Gibb walked out showed him to have very little strength of charater, lets face it us Brits are used to a bit of banter, it's what we do. It's a very apt reference to the infamous Clive Anderson interview in which because the middle one [don't know his name] argued with Clive, famously saying "you're the tosser, mate !" and left, the others who didn't really have any problem with Clive still left because, as they said "they'd never done an interview without him" - thereby suggesting they can't speak without their brother's permission. Pretty funny, really.
@romeosdistress No one's a bigger BGs fan than me (of not just th music but th Gibbs family also) & I think this comedy skit is funny. It's not as if it could do them any harm. If someone thought it could they're sadly mistaken. The BGs place in history, in th music world & in people's hearts is 4EVER. Nothing can touch that. As far as Barry's brothers walking off 2, more power 2 them. It's called loyalty. Th entire walkoff thing was just a split-second blip- they had better things 2 get on to.
@romeosdistress nah i'll disagree. i think it shows unity in the brothers. clive wasn't insulting the middle one (the older brother don't know his name). he was insulting the bee gees.
so if one of them felt insulted enough to leave, then it was only right that all followed suite.
how awkward would it have been if the third guy actually remained behind to finish the rest of the interview. the exit and the last line "i dont do impressions" was really undeniably sophisticated.
@aldhous Get real. CLIVE WAS THE JERK. How low-class & rude he was was absolutely inexcusable. U agree w/ the inexcusable way Clive treated his guests? Then u'r another 1 w/ a problem. Get real. The only surprise was that the BGs didn't walk off a lot SOONER than they did. They r music royalty & don't have any need 2 put up w/ ignorant, low-class, rude nobodies. The entire planet knows the BGs. They r BELOVED & it's WELL-deserved. I live in the US & never even Heard of Clive til today 8/25/10.
@zenalaus The fact you live in the US explains why you take such offence. i.e. you don't possess a fully-developed sense of humour.
If you did, you'd know that that's Clive Anderson's style, and the kind of thing that us English find funny. Anderson has dined out on it for years and is very respected. He's not an idiot - he's a qualifed barrister.
The fact the Bee Gees didn't get it... as nor do you? Tough shit. But they looked like twats, and several hundred thousand views backs that up.
@aldhous We Do get tv, cable & satellite here in the US. I've been exposed 2 British humor 4 decades & no one has a better appreciation of it than me. Humor is humor, even if it has some differences in different countries. Thats the point. Some things transcend all boundaries & r just plain right or wrong. Theres a line in the sand thats not 2 b crossed Anywhere- a common-sense line thats agreed-upon in Civilization anywhere. Clive crossed it. I'm in law too. Anyone in ANY field can b ignorant.
@zenalaus The fact that my initial statement has 16 approvals and is flagged at the top suggests that people tend to agree with me, wouldn't you say?
The Bee Gees spent a lot of time in the States. That would explain why their sense of humour had whittled away by the time of this hilarious piece of Elton John-esque hissy-fitting. I'm sure they were right bouncy geezers, always up for a jest and jappery when they first burst onto the scene as Les Tossers. I bet their antics were legendary. ;-/
@aldhous Sometimes when people tend 2 agree w/something its still not right. Like I said Clives probably a nice guy to know. And I'm sure hes a talented humorist. We all make a mistake sooner or later. Not a person alive on this planet can say "I've never made a mistake." I'd think Clive himself might realize he simply went 2 far that day. There's such a thing as 2 far. Anyhow, btw I grew up watching Monty Pythons Flying Circus & loving it. Also 2 other shows.I understand the difference in humor.
@zenalaus Clive's said a lot worse to many people and the subject has taken it in with a pinch of salt and in spirit of the show. Everyone knows it's not serious - jesus, it's a cheap gag.
I mean, for goodness sake, what the hell did the Bee Gees expect going on the Clive Anderson show? It was stupid and petty to walk off, but absolutely ignorant in the first place not to realise what the tone might be.
@aldhous I understand if a particular comic is known 2 b a particular way on a regular basis then thats what a person who is familiar w/them would know theyre getting if they appear w/that comic. But arent u assuming the BGs have 2 have been tuned in 2 most of Clive's shows previously & have to've been totally familiar w/his previous material? There r tons of shows & who can b that familiar w/all of it? Especially if thats not their field. Unless u'r a politician u arent 'managed' That closely.
@zenalaus Don't be so naive. You think the Bee Gees don't have management and agents, publicists and PR reps? If the walk-off was anyone's fault it was their reps' for not warning the trio what was in store. And additionally, for not factoring in the reality that the Bee Gees have no sense of humour whatsoever. Jesus, I take the mickey out of myself (in the name of humour) on a daily basis.
Too much to ask of these charlies.
Well they are/were in the sad minority, I can tell you.
@aldhous Well I knew someone would say that in response 2 what I said but that would b the managers'/agents'/publicists'/reps' fault not the brothers Gibb themselves. My biggest point really is everyone on the whole planet makes mistakes- everyone. Even Bono says he could make things smoother for himself w/more advance people setting things up perfectly 4 him- things like making reservations at restaurants ahead of time instead of trying his luck- but he's human. Perfect is reserved 4 concerts.
@aldhous (Hmmm. I don't know me no nora. Just kidding. 1 of my favorite things about discussing anything w/someone from another country is when they use an interesting expression that's unusual 2 me.) Well we can agree to disagree on some things. I still want to visit England some day. Not enough other people in this world who appreciate good hot tea like I do! My mom still has the china set my dad bought her in England & brought back to 'the states' for her before they married decades ago. :)
@zenalaus Well you'd be very welcome here. And for your ref, Clive Anderson can often be seen taking in West End shows (I've seen him outside a couple of theatres), so when you're over, get stocked up with eggs, flour and rotten tomatoes and you'll know where to stake him out!
@aldhous Thanks. & I picked up another expression now - 'for your ref' - I like that one. :) Well, I don't hate Mr. Anderson. There are all kinds of people in the world & I don't do the hate thing much at all, so if I saw him I'd just leave him be. Or leave him 'Bee'? (Okay,I'm not a comedian so I probably shouldn't try to crack jokes much.) Take care over there in the land of Shakespeare, The Beatles, and excellent tea! :)
What made the walk off especially funny to me is that the crack that pissed Barry off was pretty apt: There was a time when the Bee Gee's were grossly overexposed, great musicians or not. Barry was pissed off about the fact that Clive was not wrong.
@aldhous Twats? how old are you? why do you use words like that to describe the Bee Gees?. I think that Barry may have been a little immature to walk off the show, but to be fair, Anderson was being very infantle with his snide ''jokes''. I am British born btw and I possess the ability to have a laugh, but I failed to get a laugh out of what Anderson said to three music legends who deserved a lot more respect.
makes the whole family look bizarre...guy who plays Barry is rather frightening...someone who should be heavily medicated and put away! Glad the "Real Guys" are a bit nicer!:)
David Walliams is so freakin' funny.... love the Bee Gees, and I'm sure they're smart enough to see the humor in this... though to me, he looks more like the Cowardly Lion than Barry Gibb... but funny nonetheless.
what hole have you been living in? The Gibbs are definitely not arrogant or a-holes. They are great men who have contributed a lot to the music world. oh, Barry lives in Miami (which is in the US) and they are still active in producing songs. Barry is doing the love and hope ball (diabetes research) in February and Robin has a new single (Alan Freeman days). These men are very active and are great people. If the extent of your knowledge of these men is this video, go find another. They are great
Barry only partly lives in the US thank christ!! I would hate for him to be over here permanantly. I live in Florida too, worse luck. Hope I don't bump into him. :-(
actually, you are mistaken. Barry is currently living in Miami full time. He does travel, but not often because he is afraid to fly. He does own land in my home state (Tennessee), but his house was destroyed by fire. I would love to see more of the GIbbs in Tennessee. You should be ashamed of your post. These men have done a lot for Florida. They have always helped when natural disasters occurred, are tax payers, and help with charities in the Miami area. study up on people before bashing them.
well i don't hope you do either you don't deserve the privilidge, your a faggot who doesn't understand what nice guys the bee gees are and in maurice's case was, they have done so much for music, your just a arragont, up your own ass american prick.
why do i need to grow up exactly? just telling you your an american asshole who has the wrong take on 3 musicians who are and were great at music and very nice people and not arragont one bit.
Why do you need to grow up? Well, there's your xenophobia, your attrocious spelling and your inability to accept somebody elses opinions of celebrities you don't even know.
erm where the heck are my spelling mistakes exactly i don't see any, oh well i'm only xenaphobic towards pompus american fuck wits such as yourself and i clearly know more about the bee gees than you on how they are as people since you don't have a clue on them.
well..yes i did ask and you can't seem to give me an answer which pretty much looks like avoiding my question because i didn't make any spelling mistakes and your a dumb fag and well believe it if you want or not i'm 20 in 2 weeks time so it would appear i am growing up.
I shouldn't have to point out your attrocious and shocking spelling and lack of punctuation, it should be evident to anyone reading your childish posts. "Oh, your (sic) a fag" is just the sort of thing that makes you seem like an infant. Go away now child, you're out of your league here.
What a dumb video, total waste of time.

Th entire walkoff thing was just a split-second blip- they had better things 2 get on to.
zenalaus 1 year ago
@romeosdistress nah i'll disagree. i think it shows unity in the brothers. clive wasn't insulting the middle one (the older brother don't know his name). he was insulting the bee gees.
so if one of them felt insulted enough to leave, then it was only right that all followed suite.
how awkward would it have been if the third guy actually remained behind to finish the rest of the interview. the exit and the last line "i dont do impressions" was really undeniably sophisticated.

Serves the Bee Gees right for being such twats on the Clive Anderson show.

Clive was a tosser!
lky81566 2 years ago
@aldhous Get real. CLIVE WAS THE JERK. How low-class & rude he was was absolutely inexcusable. U agree w/ the inexcusable way Clive treated his guests? Then u'r another 1 w/ a problem. Get real. The only surprise was that the BGs didn't walk off a lot SOONER than they did. They r music royalty & don't have any need 2 put up w/ ignorant, low-class, rude nobodies. The entire planet knows the BGs. They r BELOVED & it's WELL-deserved. I live in the US & never even Heard of Clive til today 8/25/10.
zenalaus 1 year ago
@zenalaus The fact you live in the US explains why you take such offence. i.e. you don't possess a fully-developed sense of humour.
If you did, you'd know that that's Clive Anderson's style, and the kind of thing that us English find funny. Anderson has dined out on it for years and is very respected. He's not an idiot - he's a qualifed barrister.
The fact the Bee Gees didn't get it... as nor do you? Tough shit. But they looked like twats, and several hundred thousand views backs that up.
aldhous 1 year ago
@aldhous We Do get tv, cable & satellite here in the US. I've been exposed 2 British humor 4 decades & no one has a better appreciation of it than me. Humor is humor, even if it has some differences in different countries. Thats the point. Some things transcend all boundaries & r just plain right or wrong. Theres a line in the sand thats not 2 b crossed Anywhere- a common-sense line thats agreed-upon in Civilization anywhere. Clive crossed it. I'm in law too. Anyone in ANY field can b ignorant.
zenalaus 1 year ago
@zenalaus The fact that my initial statement has 16 approvals and is flagged at the top suggests that people tend to agree with me, wouldn't you say?
The Bee Gees spent a lot of time in the States. That would explain why their sense of humour had whittled away by the time of this hilarious piece of Elton John-esque hissy-fitting. I'm sure they were right bouncy geezers, always up for a jest and jappery when they first burst onto the scene as Les Tossers. I bet their antics were legendary. ;-/
aldhous 1 year ago
@aldhous Sometimes when people tend 2 agree w/something its still not right. Like I said Clives probably a nice guy to know. And I'm sure hes a talented humorist. We all make a mistake sooner or later. Not a person alive on this planet can say "I've never made a mistake." I'd think Clive himself might realize he simply went 2 far that day. There's such a thing as 2 far. Anyhow, btw I grew up watching Monty Pythons Flying Circus & loving it. Also 2 other shows.I understand the difference in humor.
zenalaus 1 year ago
@zenalaus Clive's said a lot worse to many people and the subject has taken it in with a pinch of salt and in spirit of the show. Everyone knows it's not serious - jesus, it's a cheap gag.
I mean, for goodness sake, what the hell did the Bee Gees expect going on the Clive Anderson show? It was stupid and petty to walk off, but absolutely ignorant in the first place not to realise what the tone might be.
aldhous 1 year ago
@aldhous I understand if a particular comic is known 2 b a particular way on a regular basis then thats what a person who is familiar w/them would know theyre getting if they appear w/that comic. But arent u assuming the BGs have 2 have been tuned in 2 most of Clive's shows previously & have to've been totally familiar w/his previous material? There r tons of shows & who can b that familiar w/all of it? Especially if thats not their field. Unless u'r a politician u arent 'managed' That closely.
zenalaus 1 year ago
@zenalaus Don't be so naive. You think the Bee Gees don't have management and agents, publicists and PR reps? If the walk-off was anyone's fault it was their reps' for not warning the trio what was in store. And additionally, for not factoring in the reality that the Bee Gees have no sense of humour whatsoever. Jesus, I take the mickey out of myself (in the name of humour) on a daily basis.
Too much to ask of these charlies.
Well they are/were in the sad minority, I can tell you.
aldhous 1 year ago
@aldhous Well I knew someone would say that in response 2 what I said but that would b the managers'/agents'/publicists'/reps' fault not the brothers Gibb themselves. My biggest point really is everyone on the whole planet makes mistakes- everyone. Even Bono says he could make things smoother for himself w/more advance people setting things up perfectly 4 him- things like making reservations at restaurants ahead of time instead of trying his luck- but he's human. Perfect is reserved 4 concerts.

@zenalaus
"Even Bono..."
Bloody nora, he's a bigger tool that even the Bee Gees...
aldhous 1 year ago
@aldhous (Hmmm. I don't know me no nora. Just kidding. 1 of my favorite things about discussing anything w/someone from another country is when they use an interesting expression that's unusual 2 me.) Well we can agree to disagree on some things. I still want to visit England some day. Not enough other people in this world who appreciate good hot tea like I do! My mom still has the china set my dad bought her in England & brought back to 'the states' for her before they married decades ago. :)
zenalaus 1 year ago
@zenalaus Well you'd be very welcome here. And for your ref, Clive Anderson can often be seen taking in West End shows (I've seen him outside a couple of theatres), so when you're over, get stocked up with eggs, flour and rotten tomatoes and you'll know where to stake him out!
aldhous 1 year ago
@aldhous Thanks. & I picked up another expression now - 'for your ref' - I like that one. :) Well, I don't hate Mr. Anderson. There are all kinds of people in the world & I don't do the hate thing much at all, so if I saw him I'd just leave him be. Or leave him 'Bee'? (Okay,I'm not a comedian so I probably shouldn't try to crack jokes much.) Take care over there in the land of Shakespeare, The Beatles, and excellent tea! :)
zenalaus 1 year ago
@zenalaus Keep smiling. ;-)
aldhous 1 year ago
@aldhous
What made the walk off especially funny to me is that the crack that pissed Barry off was pretty apt: There was a time when the Bee Gee's were grossly overexposed, great musicians or not. Barry was pissed off about the fact that Clive was not wrong.
lesterclaypool1 10 months ago
@zenalaus He went too far? Jesus, how much of a soft-cock would you have to be....
ngatfield 1 year ago
@aldhous Twats? how old are you? why do you use words like that to describe the Bee Gees?. I think that Barry may have been a little immature to walk off the show, but to be fair, Anderson was being very infantle with his snide ''jokes''. I am British born btw and I possess the ability to have a laugh, but I failed to get a laugh out of what Anderson said to three music legends who deserved a lot more respect.

Gee, just...WOW!! I had no idea that the BG's were such arrogant ASSHOLES! Makes me glad they don't produce music anymore or live in the US.
VengaboysRbackINtown 3 years ago
what hole have you been living in?

VengaboysRbackINtown 3 years ago
actually, you are mistaken.

I read up on him on wikipedia. I think you're making up porkie pies.

well i don't hope you do either you don't deserve the privilidge, your a faggot who doesn't understand what nice guys the bee gees are and in maurice's case was, they have done so much for music, your just a arragont, up your own ass american prick.

Lol. Grow up.
VengaboysRbackINtown 2 years ago
why do i need to grow up exactly? just telling you your an american asshole who has the wrong take on 3 musicians who are and were great at music and very nice people and not arragont one bit.
jrbrooks200 2 years ago
Why do you need to grow up? Well, there's your xenophobia, your attrocious spelling and your inability to accept somebody elses opinions of celebrities you don't even know.
VengaboysRbackINtown 2 years ago
erm where the heck are my spelling mistakes exactly i don't see any, oh well i'm only xenaphobic towards pompus american fuck wits such as yourself and i clearly know more about the bee gees than you on how they are as people since you don't have a clue on them.
jrbrooks200 2 years ago
Where are your spelling mistakes you ask? Oh, priceless. :-D
Anyway, you come across as an infant. GROW UP!! LOL!!
VengaboysRbackINtown 2 years ago
well..yes i did ask and you can't seem to give me an answer which pretty much looks like avoiding my question because i didn't make any spelling mistakes and your a dumb fag and well believe it if you want or not i'm 20 in 2 weeks time so it would appear i am growing up.
jrbrooks200 2 years ago
I shouldn't have to point out your attrocious and shocking spelling and lack of punctuation, it should be evident to anyone reading your childish posts. "Oh, your (sic) a fag" is just the sort of thing that makes you seem like an infant. Go away now child, you're out of your league here.

hey buttfuck.....proceed ur famly tradition, u stupid son of a worthless bitch..get down and lick my cum....
SCATMANJOHNLARKINN1 2 years ago
Here are some of your more infantile spelling mistakes, most of which my 5-year-old brother could spell;
privilidge (correct spelling privilege)
arragont, spelt wrong twice (arrogant)
xenaphobic (which was even spelt correctly for you by vengaboys!)
You also mixed up "your" and "you're" to an embarrasing extent, and seem almost oblivious as to the existence of punctuation.
I don't think you're in any position to be labelling others "dumb" fags when you are clearly an utter moron.
