  • some really good stuff here

  • brilliant video

  • I think i just shit myself... no sleep for me tonight.

  • @ShinigamiDijanic Then my job here is done.

  • that is sooo creepy!

  • Actually, It's not the spider, all spiders have 8 legs.

  • awesome

  • cool animation

  • Awesome. is it after effect?

  • CG. Not bad.

  • Nice CG....

  • Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 ;D best game ever

  • I fucking hate spiders...

    *reaches for Sapper*

  • fucking fake!!! spiders have 8 legs!!!

  • @zoranzo117 Well done Captain Obvious.

  • @noobrider100 yea so what im pretending to be a troll lolol

  • @zoranzo117 L2Troll.

  • at least its a robot right

  • It has ballz ?

  • Kinda looked like it had a turret.

  • @LEGOdude5715 Also, that would be it's dick. *sapper on robot*

  • @TheTekken1000 who said it was real?

  • Very cool

  • looks really good, but the shadow is crap =)

  • thats fake!

  • 50% of people disliked this video... 50% of the population also has an IQ below 100. Bet most people can't figure out that this is well done in 3D.

  • @IgnitionUnlimited Not accounting for some of the 50% who dislike it because it isn't a spider, fake or otherwise. Spiders have 8 legs, not 6.

Some may be marking it down on minor technicalities.

Aside from that, no it's not badly done at all.

  • @IgnitionUnlimited IQbelow looked like my name so I spent 3 weeks looking for this comment after my senses tingled and it was just that...

  • The tracking is pretty good, but the shadow maps are very low res, and the ambient light is too low.

To make CG fit nicely with real footage you should use raytraced shadows, preferably with an area spot as your keylight, and a skylight to get a realistic ambient occlusion effect.

  • pokey's spider mech

  • Very nice animating job, almost photorealistic, great vid!

  • HFSITTTWR = Holy Fking Shlt I Thought That Thing Was Real.

  • @ExMachina70 Best comment! :D

  • @ExMachina70 Then you were like oh my bad spiders have eight legs lol its ok this one only has six XD

  • Nice one!

  • who cares if its fake, its still really well done. Nice 1 mate

  • Comment removed

  • Beware of settings in the material, speculars and shiny bits are taking the object out of the scene a bit.

  • As Anyone here ever heard about Augmented Reality?

Search it out, that's what it is.

  • I love that the spider has a turret on its head =)

  • 6 legs spider hahaha

  • @chihuahuabebi Well if you want to get really technical genius, most spiders dont have tank cannons either....

  • The way it points its leg looks a lot like this real robotic "spider"

    watch?v=DE05joI6gbs

(replace end of address bar with the above)

  • The way it points its leg looks a lot like this real robotic "spider"

  • -.-

  • Ummmm, spiders have eight legs not six. Dumbass

  • what program

  • It almost looks like the arachnids on the "Star ship Trooper" movies.

It needs 2 more legs to be a spider though.

You did a really great job with the animation though.

Now, can you build the real thing ?

  • what did you model it with ? ah and a spider has 8 legs =P

  • Amazing job! Very nicely done in my opinion (^_^)

  • thumbs up man thumbs up

  • @TheSiriki i think you "thumbs up me" people are ridiculous!

  • Awesome CGI. I so wish I could make that real though. I mean, who WOULDN'T want a small, dancing, mechanical spider

  • 3 D )

  • not enough legs

  • it's a kewl cg effect, but it ain't a spider. arachnids have 8 legs.

  • I like the little turret on his back.

    What program did you use?

Also is this the final version of the model or are you still working on it?

  • At first i thought that was real!!

    Gawd iam a StupidAsianBlond!!!

  • Spiders have 8 legs...

  • It is cg, pretty awesome though. You can tell, it doesn't look real. I don't know why people think it is projected from a piece of paper. It is not actually in the real world it is just cg. Cool Though. BTW the creator is not saying it's real it could just be a project or something fun.

  • @XbobSector it was basically a test shot :) experimenting on a weekend.

  • photoshop....the shadows fickered

  • @benchmadeknifeboy its not photoshoped, but it is fake ;)

  • @benchmadeknifeboy

if that's done in photoshop i'm impressed, you moron its 3D... photoshop is 1 image not an animation

  • @digimbyte It is possible to use PS though to do an animation frame by frame...it's stupid to do it that way, but it is possible, lol

Though I have seen some good stuff in my intro to film class someone used PS to add a homicidal paper cut out creature to his footage trying to kill him, it was a fun little project :)

  • @benchmadeknifeboy

    I caught that too.

  • @benchmadeknifeboy photoshop is such a noob thing to say

  • @3dimensionalJoe yeah well these people think that avatar was made in photoshop, i bet they think the great matte paintings in classic epic are photoshoped

  • i will use it to take over the world!!

  • Its just a robot LOL

  • MONKEYLORD!

  • @ventHARAS Duh

  • @ventHARAS false and homesexual. Noice vid btw.

  • wow, u can clearly c itz a fake...

  • @goldboyjr

    @SteveRogers0123

Gee, really? I could have sworn it was the real thing.

I mean, it looks genuinely REAL.

Are you sure it's fake? Really? Fake? Are you absolutely positive, I mean the guy says it's CGI in the description, but YOU must know better.

    Moron...

  • Fake...

  • @TheBastard97 OMG, you're so clever. How did you find out it was fake? Congratulations, your parents must be proud of the son they have!

  • looks like cgi

  • not a spider its just a bug *if not mechanical*

  • give it two more legs ;)

  • Cool stuff.....im sure you know about the shadow flicker.....up the parameters or use ray tracing. Great job tho.

  • only if it were real

  • Man, I really wish our robotics were that advanced

  • Am I the only person that has noticed it only has 6 legs, which makes it an armed hexapod, not a mechanical arachnid?

  • yea, maybe u r right,,,,,, but u cant make one like that!

  • @Revguy12

So are you, but we WERE going to keep that to ourselves...

  • bad

  • When I first looke I really tought it whas a robo spider X'D

  • the next step s actually creating this, that'd be amazing

  • scary dont want that in your bed but cool

  • very nice :) love it.

  • it looked real until like 0:05 :D

  • Mechanical... lethal... bug! Seeing the comments, I bet I'm bugging you now.

Ah, what the heck. Go, mechanical spider... bug!

  • Damn I'm afraid of this shit!

  • hahaha!

    It WILL kill you.

  • @D4LR1NO your afraid of the animation?

  • Naw, it's a mechanical bug.

It's not a spider unless it has eight legs.

  • yadda yadda. its a spider. cos i made it. so i can name it.

  • it's obvious the spider lost two of it's legs in battle :P

  • lol i saw the paper you where using to project it lol

  • piece of paper?

  • its an animation right? because my bro uses a paper with the symbol the computer reads to project his things so i figured you do the same thing

  • um is your 3d spider missing two legs?

  • nope.

  • lol!! whats that? elien? rare creature? i guess that is a cat

  • fact sign...urlame

  • spiders have 8 legs. stupid.

  • lol

  • really? but thisone is mechanical you see. it's not real ;)

  • dude...it doesn't matter...shouldn't a mechanical replika look "almost" exaclty like the original one? i mean...if it has 6 legs, that doesn't make it a spider anymore...got my point?

  • i get your point. but it's STILL a mechanical spider. cos that's what it's called.

  • where do you have taked the 3d animation? by a game?

  • Are the barrels supposed to be weapons?

  • wierd

  • Nice cg work, though I don't think the number of shadows justifies the number of sources of light that were in the footage. Other than that it's really good.

  • If you want to get technical about the number of legs, I dont think spiders have cannons either.

  • cool :D

  • THis is an animation?

  • Yes

  • only 6 legs not spider sry

  • r u talking about me

  • Spiders don't have 6 legs unless two of them were somehow removed or broke off...

  • True to a certain extent. There are technically spiders which have 6 legs. They have all the qualities of a spider(except the 8 legs ofcourse) but are called insect due to the fact the don't have 8 legs.

  • The shadows flicker a bit much, you might want to try doubling the shadow map resolution, and play with the shadow map bias.

  • Would the other 2 legs come to? or is it a damaged spider ^^ just 6 legs

  • i thought it was real...

    GreaT!

  • What's wrong with shadow?

  • very cool , now make the bug huge in a city

  • I am actually working on that . . . :P

    Stay tooned!

  • Man, I need to learn how to do this. Never did any major tracking and compositing :(

  • Be careful

    its addictive

  • nice animation :D

    excellent work :)

  • Thanks Buddy!!

  • good stuff.. though the shadows give it away..

  • yeah i know. thats the hardest bit

  • A spider has 8 legs. This has six. For the love of christ.

  • who cares.

  • Great video. Excellent model - killer animation. I love how it raises up before it strikes. And good job on the camera matching. I wish I knew how to do that stuff. I'd loan you my Mechanical Spider model, but the HD I had it saved on crashed.... doh! Keep up the good work!

  • oh man that sucks!!!

Did you loose heaps of work??

Thanks for the comment. The animating did take ages to get it to look just right. Lots of tweeking.

  • you got some good stuff man

  • Thanks heaps buddy.

    I really appreciate the encouragement.

    :)

  • nice animation! 5 out of 5!

  • Thanks a Bunch!!

  • fake

  • You're not very smart are you.

Did you read the description at all?

    It says its' fake.

    Thanks Captain Obvious.

  • hey man can you post tutorials to do this kind of stuff??? I'm no0b man haha any good 3DS Max forums with tutorials and video tutorials!!!?? thanks

  • I'll try and do a tutorial at some stage. But probably not soon.

I learnt alot just by reading forums and searching and searching for tutorials.

Some programs, like PFTRack, have some tutorials within their manuals.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Oh cool! I saw those at Radio Shack and Toys R Us! :O

  • ah yes. maybe i should make a remote controlled one. But i guess youtube own that idea now.

Unless i say "Idea copyrighted to Joel right now , 26-4-08" BAM!

  • How about a little more garlic??? BAM!!! :)

    Or even: "BOOM! Tough-actin' Tinactin!"

  • Hahaha

  • ARRGGHHH!!! Spider!!!!

  • hahaha

  • nice job guy! sweet video editing!

  • Thanks

  • this is just a video-mod, with 3D.. NOT REAL, jerks!

  • Thanks Captain Obvious!!

  • this is just... wow! it's like one of those super cool toys that you always wanted. it's even got a little gun on it. it's better then a pet. very nice work man

  • LOL. Indeed. How cool would a remote controlled one be. Or even just a Guard Spider-mech out the front of your house.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • WOW, impressive!! I can never get Boujou to cooperate with my shots, plus, when I import the camera tracking data into 3ds max, it's always in the wrong axis. There's so much questions I want to ask you, lol

  • The wrong axis thig could be in your prefferences in Boujou. You have to set the z-axis to UP. that helped with mine anyways.

Boujou likes lots of straight lines i have found. Boxes, Cubes are great. But i still have heaps of trouble with it all. i have about 6 good solves out of 50 that i've tried. It urns me into angry man sometimes.

  • Thanks for the info Joelsk, I get quite angry sometimes when i try to use Boujou. Where did you learn how to use the program? Is there a tutorial online somewhere? Anyways, keep up the awesome work!

  • Nice, At first I thought it was real, but that may just me being sleepy, but still, nice.

  • Thanks!!!

SOrry to scare you, but i guess that means i`m doing a good job.

  • that was awesome what did you use? ps the shadows were like jittering a little

  • The programs i used are listed in the description.

I tried for ages to stop the shadows from jittering but was unable to get it any better then that without having a rediculous rendering time.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • welcome, and good vid!

  • Thanks mate

  • hey man, nice work, u always use Boujou to make tracking?

  • Thanks!

nah, not always. I have been trying PFTrack as well. But haven't tried matchmover yet.

Do you use any of these programs?

  • That one big ass scarey SPIDER-MECH MOMMY
