  • Richard you was the best music producer I ever met!

  • she looks really sick there

  • i like it huhuhuhu

  • She was so pretty

  • THE BEST MAURO SAO PAULO BRAZIL

  • Karen appears exhausted in this clip (according to some) because she just finished her drum solo before this number - she's actually sweating from it - at this time in her life, she's actually quite healthy - the anorexia did not become a problem until the following year, 1975

  • This is amazing, but why was the last half of the song cut off for this documentary? Couldn't they have put the bit with Richard afterward?

  • OMG!!!! She was SO beautiful!

  • she looks really exhausted but her voice still sounded PITCH PERFECT!

  • she looks so healthy

  • Wow, I had no idea that Karen know Japanese. I love her. Thank for sharing.

  • Thank you all!

    She is an angel!

  • what makes me sick about the whole Karen Carpenter deal. Is she could not see just what an awesome lady she was inside and out. And what a great gift she had to offer for the whole world. And the other I really feel her parents and those around just did not tell her enough how much they LOVE her. Sometimes we just need to hear that from time to time.

  • @MegaELECTRICEYE The Love was always there, it just wasen't always said verbally alot, & there wasen't alot of hugging (although some) Karen didn't look at herself as such a big deal, even though you & I know she was- I always personally sensed it was a bit of a self esteem issue, but Karen would certainly take alot of time by herself in dressing, fixing her hair, she was"VERY" self critical of herself, but hid it for so long. Enjoyed your comment!

  • She looks great here. She looks very healthy and happy...wish we could see more of her at this stage in her life

  • I can tell Karen loves children. She would've been a great mother.

  • sweet!!!

  • Been a big fan of her songs since entering junior high school days in 1969 and I remember reading about her from Japanese magazines but this is the first time I heard her singing in Japanese, in great accent too! It's beautiful. I'm even a bigger fan now.So sad that we lost her at such a young age.

  • for me there will never exist a singer like Karen Carpenter! I miss her very much! what a voice!

  • This was the America, and the World, that I remember, during the 60's and 70's. The Carpenters' singing "Sing, Sing a Song", Disney Lands, "It's a Small World", and I used to sing in the choir in 6th grade in 1969, "Puff the magic Dragon". These were all great children of the world songs, that really made everyone feel good. Not like today's hate mongering racist gangster rappers, and whatnot...

  • Karen sings "Sing" in Japanese.

    (Japanese lyrics)

    Sing utaou koewo awase

    kanashiikoto wasurerutame

    Sing utaou shiawasega kuruyouni

    ookina koewo dashi hazukashigarazu

    Just sing, sing a song

  • @MuSA143 Karen must have had a soft spot for the japanese people to learn to sing this song in their language. I think they did several concerts in Japan.

  • @chuyfitz I remember in a Japanese interview, right after a concert, where she said that it had been a long time since she last sang in Japan, and she hoped that she would have the opportunity to sing there again.

  • my goodness, i wonder where these kids are now? what lovely daay to be with the carpenters, let alone to be singing along with karen....la la la la la...yosshirroooo..heheheehh..

  • This made me cry. Karen is very sweet. She is someone who can never be forgotten through the years. I was born in the year of 1989 but still her persona is alive and can reach out everyone through the years...

  • what interview is this from? I like seeign RC's office....

  • I love her... she's the best!!!!

  • Hi. I love karen carpenter's voice---one of the beautiful voice in world. N all the japaness children are soooo cute! I don't know whether she would be a great mother or not. From what I see here, she adores the kids coz they are soooo cute. Yes, I agreed a vocal like her's, language is not the problem as she can express all her songs so beautifully & emotionally. Thanks! Love U:)

  • how cute.. the kids are bless to sing with karen carpenters

  • Heard this song in one of Kojima's work. Classic.

  • @keayshen

    T_T

  • look at the little slopes trying to sing.

  • OMG.. sound good..

  • great take! she and the kids are very cute!

  • the Karen and "the kids" were very cute ! ("the kids are actually older than me now ;)

  • Karen...Stay in heaven until the ground will need your voice.

  • This is indeed Karen at her beat physically. California Dreamin' Girl! She never learned to dress, though. The stories of critics, agents, etc. calling Karen "fat" may be Urban Myth. Richard removing her from behind the sanctuary of her drum kit (also her first love) was the greatest contributing factor.

  • @improvguru Never learned to dress? Only from the distorted perspective of a 21st century vulgarian. She dressed exactly as you would expect a modest, ladylike ingenue from Downey, Ca., to dress. That was a big part of her inexhaustible charm, and why tens of millions still seek her on youtube today, 40 years after Close to You brought her to national attention.

  • @Iwakuni8 Don't call me names, please. I love Karen; she's an angel and my Muse. Yes, she was certainly modest and a lady, and she would never think to dress in a Lady GaGa/ Britney manner. However, her clothes are generally just not very nice. I dislike bell bottoms. She also, if you recall, wore some awful yellow pantsuits and old lady style dresses earlier in her career.

  • @improvguru Sorry, that was a bad choice of words on my part and an overreaction.

  • @Iwakuni8 No problem at all. We are all very protective of Karen's memory.

  • @improvguru She wore what she wanted to wear.'Not very nice'? GET OVER IT ALREADY!

  • @orangewizard I WAS NEVER UNDER IT< thank you very much? Why don't you take the time to read the fifty lovely things i wrote about her? What is it with some Karen fans who go ballistic over the tiniest piece of criticism. SHE'S STILL A GODDESS!

  • @orangewizard I WAS NEVER UNDER IT< thank you very much. Why don't you take the time to read the fifty lovely things i wrote about her? What is it with some Karen fans who go ballistic over the tiniest piece of criticism. SHE'S STILL A GODDESS!

  • @improvguru I don't mind her outfit here, but I do have to admit that some of the Victorian-style dresses didn't suit her very well. But who knows? It may have just been the style at the time.

  • @capsaicin1962

I understand.people, especially male expects too much, when he's 55 yrs old, having a big stomach of his own, chasing after 20 yrs.old ass too much.too lose your weight can kill womens'lives very often.we still needed Karen.we miss her voice for so long.

  • Beautiful live performance! The rest was just a list of countries! LOL!

  • Domo arigatou gozaimasu !!!!

  • Live performances such as these really emphasize what a very, very special talent Karen Anne Carpenter was.

  • I will always be mad at the press and people who said bad things about Karen's weight. A person who has low self-esteem gets hurt by that kind of crap, and the results are not that great, as you all can see :(

    RIP Karen Carpenter

  • she looks really tired :(

  • Karen's beauty at its peak! Hoped she had good self esteem; enough not to mind what others were saying about her weight...but that's history....she's still beautiful as ever in our hearts as we listen to and appreciate her God-given talents!

  • My God was she adorable...I'm crushed that she's no longer here, but our loss is Heaven's gain!

  • Wonderfull !!thank,karen!!

  • OMG !! She born to sing !! She looks great in this video !!

  • Karen would have been a great mother. No matter what language she sings, it's universally supreme!

  • @williamchou7 Yup, imagine Karen singing a lullaby to your little one to sleep. Could this not be heaven on earth?

  • bansai karen,,,,itsudemo

  • What an uplifting video clip of Karen and the girls :) :) :)

  • Masahan-san

For me Misora Hibari is a very very good singer. But I really liked how Carpenter pronounce and knows the japanese lyric without a text. Amazing, she was really good.

  • What a beautifull Japanese!!

I never know she sang in my mother tongue Japanese...

though she died before I was born, she is the best singer for me forever and ever.

  • @relaxboi Such effortless command of Japanese, truly a multiple talented star.

  • If god put an Angel on this earth, it deffenitly be Karen! When I am in Heven, I bet Karen be the lead singer in his Choir! NO DOUBT! ~JON

  • Both you and i one day will see her again.Great voice.

  • @jonwhite20 I couldn't agree more.

  • @jonwhite20 I agree with you!

  • was she tired because she was already having healthy problems, or because the concert was exhaustive?

  • She had just finished an exhausting "head-banging" drum performance, after lead-singing the whole fantastic concert. Of course she was a bit sweaty after all that, although she still looked great and warm. But, no, she was fine at this stage.

  • Fuck, that girl is awesome.

Death usually make unwise picks. She is the proof.

  • Ehh, I don't think it was death who made the bad decisions.

  • we also recorded our version in Japanese....check it out..

  • sweet karen

  • Got that. We all miss her alot. God bless her.

  • So beautiful and cute...

  • She is great, I mean, look at her. She looks exhausted and she is singing straight up Japanese.

  • she did look tired and sweety but boy she still could sing and in japanese very well too

  • her voice conforts me

it will remain forever in my mind

    she´s marvellous

  • q lindo!

  • Carpenters

  • you can cleary hear her struggling to keep her breath. what a loss...

  • huh?

  • Oddly enough...members of the crowd requested Richard to play "Chopsticks" on the piano. It later ended up as background music in a popular bukake film.

  • she's good..so good in fact..it feels like sitting on a branch of a tree while singing and birds will come to listen to you,..

that's how I fel when I hear her singing softly..I miss her so much!

  • I love how Karen is singing in Japanese!

  • Love Karen and miss her!

  • yah i agree wid u rhyanrossi...and she`s so jolly and funny person

  • She's such a beautiful person, inside and out.

  • She is an angel, and she sings with other angels in heaven!

  • I grew up in Orange County, California and was friends with the son of Bob Messenger who was the Carpenter's bass player. I recall many times seeing him practicing in the house. These musicians are gone forever or fading away into oblivion replaced by loud brash ill behaved young "musicians" if you call them that. I loved and still love the Carpenters

  • I agree with you with regards to some of the musicians these days. You were lucky to have had the chance to see them up-close. I was brought up in Singapore/Malaysia nevertheless everyone knows this song and my little 2 years old now is learning to sing it.:) I am so glad to impart this to her even if via the internet.

  • she looks so beautiful here.

  • It's a damn shame to see this generation of musicians fade away or die off, true musicianship with great writing skills & heart felt melodies, music today isn't even music, it's just noise & crap, I remember when the 80s came around & I thought to myself how bad & soulless it was getting but it's way better than todays noise.

  • mabey its becuase she was hot as the weather just happens to be hotter in japan

  • that was so beautiful! 'miss you Karen...

  • Karen was beautiful inside and out!

  • Wow, Ive heard her sing in spanish but never japanese, She did look a lot better with alittle weight on.

  • just great

  • 1974, makes you wonder

  • (gian1973c)you wouldn't know where one could get hold of that rendition would you?

  • wow she's sexy as i ever seen her with weight on. wish she knew how good her body looked like that.

  • I love Karen Carpenter.. I wish she was still alive. she is beautiful in every way.

  • OMG those kids are adorable. Poor Karen.

  • sad she died i'm only a teen and i love her

  • The Carpenters also did a Spanish version of this song, available in the Carpenters Collection Album.

  • this song very much to japanese

  • i didnt know they sang in different languages, does any one know the song in the background when richard is talking ive never heard it before ,karens jumpsuit is very different she has a raggedy anne motif on the leg , she shows how proffesional she is but she s still a big kid at heart ,she loved the muppets and disney too

  • It's from a commercial they did in Japan - I'm not sure if there's a whole song.

  • How cute is that? Her voice is so beautiful. :)

  • Karen looks marvelous here; and the kids are adorable!

  • The amazing karen, she sing that good, any kind of languages , she can sing anything. Nobody can sing like her. nobody .

  • Ok, im azn, and I CAN'T EVEN PRONOUNCE THAT WELL. You are truly amazing Karen. T^T We all miss u

  • She looked great - very tired agreed - but this is the way I would like to remember her. She still has the most beautiful voice in pop music. I still get goosebumbs when I hear and see her perform.

  • She looked good there. Didn't look sick, just a little tired.

  • Her Japanese pronunciation is very good!

  • WHAT A NICE VERSION IS!! ^^
