its very well known that this happens when the power is plugged in (or has been unplugged but not locked/unlocked) And its apparently caused by the crappy controller chip they used on the touchscreen
my nexus onedoes this when it gets warm, it's dumb. bought it 4 months ago. the location where i press is wrong, not just when usingkeyboard, can be using other apps or surfing web. sometimes when i press something it hangs there. so like if i press delete once it deletes 15 characters. have to wait for it to cool down. never owned anotehr smartphone so not sure if this is a common problem or not
@1stb1 I had this issue with my Nexus One but updating to the latest firmware 2.2.1 FRG83 or now th recently released FRG83D has stopped this happening at regular occurences. If however it does start to play up then all you do is turn the screen off then back on again and it seems to solve it as well. Hopefully when gingerbread AKA android 2.3, comes out then this issue will finally be completely resolved :)
i didnt like the nexus one... sure it had som great features but as phones go it was shit... trying to type on the thing was difficult... the touch screen compared with iphone was extremely poor!!! i would have my blackberry any day
Mine was doing this when I first began to use the Nexus One. The iPhone made me lazy :(
It's to do with your skin making extra contact points on the glass surface and then the device bugs out due to too many capacitive inputs at the one time.
I noticed that when I was holding the phone 2-handed and typing with my thumbs, the way I was gripping the device allowed for the skin of my left and right fingers to constantly touch the glass edges near the soft keyboard.
@enderwiggin76 this is the exact reason. the nexus one kb is not multitouch. so make sure ur skin is not touching the capacitive area i the bottom or anywhere. its not a bug or caused by anything else. like he said.. adjust d way u hold it.
This is so true, and no one knows how to fix this problem.
I am starting to regret buying this phone! I believe the one thing u can do when this occurs is take out the battery while it is on. (correct me if i'm wrong)
I bought this phone a week ago and have had several problems already.
Go for the iPhone 3GS. i.e. if the shovenistic apple lets u!
hey has anyone tried outputting audio via aux or some kind of 3.5mm jack to stereo? when I try that it randomly plays songs and changes songs randomly and just overall random... it weirds me out
was it acting like that when u bought it? if so u should have sent it back to google. other than that if u didn't drop ur phone or installed an app not from the android market u shouldn't be having that problem unless of course u rooted ur phone
I know it runs multiple apps and with a 1GHz processor you would think it's fast...which it is but you need to get some type of task killer if you use any android device
I really hope they change/fix any and all issues they are having with this phone when they release it on vzw. I really wana dump my storm but i dont want to have another "great" phone that ends up it was rushed out and full of bugs.
Basically once you have had a blackberry storm...as I have....you realize that every other phone on earth is an upgrade... So i would totally take this nexus one....actually you could drop it off a cliff and I would still take it over my P.O.S. Blackberry storm
This isn't happening to every Nexus One out there, must be a few faulty ones circulating, which is common with any product. My best friend's iPhone audio jack is failing, just the case with most technology. HTC covers the phone with a warranty and you also have 14 days to return it to Google from date of purchase.
Yeah, I guess troubleshooting and debugging reasons aren't part of your vocabulary. That's how you PURPOSEDLY start to make it crash.
In short, if your phone does what I described above, good luck, Google doesn't know how to fix it and it looks like it's a hardware issue rather than software. Even the Google tech guy from the official help forums had to admit his own phone, which he thought was flawless, did the exact same thing as described above.
Debugging and troubleshooting reasons obviously. It could very well be a hardware problem and if so, Google doesn't have a clue how to fix it and neither does HTC yet.
If it does turn out to be a hardware issue which can't be fixed with an OTA update, we're talking major recall time. Very bad testing on Google and HTC's part here.
@tattoos01 Good question. It's an intermittent problem, and struck right as I woke up (thus the crappy video). Phone's not rooted. I've seen in happen in different apps, though.
It's a whole boatload of the Nexus Ones doing this. Same thing with the 4 lower buttons on the phone, they don't work right either for most people. Then there's the laggy UI as shown in other videos.
You can look for help on the official Google forums about the junk this phone is.
I've noticed the issue isn't just with the keyboard, I've had problems clicking and moving icons and widgets around the homescreen, difficulty entering my unlock code, and problems entering phone numbers (Pushing "1" and having "*" light up). I'm really hoping Google fixes the keyboard issues soon.
Had a similar problem with the Motorola Cliq, Motorola issued an OTA update and fixed it, this is likely an issue that will be repaired with a future update as well, I'm thinking Google may have rushed the phone out too quickly, a month from Beta to market is just not enough time.
I have this problem ALL THE TIME. I regret buying this piece of shit phone but I'm stuck with it.

My Nexus One just started doing this after two weeks of perfectly normal operation. I'm in the middle of rebooting to see if that helps.

Here's how to test the piece of shit Nexus One. This test just made a Google CS guy go from "No my phone works fine" to "Ooops...."
1. set up 4 alarms
2. start tapping on the toggle switch (on/off) of the top alarm
3. keep tapping very quickly for a bit
4 watch the toggle switch of the bottom alarm light up with orange highlight
Congrats on your new phone!

Why would anybody even do that, how is that even practical? You can find software glitches on any phone, even iPhone (just Google iPhone glitches).

How were you able to get it to not work properly so you could record it?
What app did you have running in the background that is likely to be the main suspect. (Or do you know what app causes it?)
Has that phone been rooted? or is it stock?
