I agree completely Newsish! I'm age 63 and I still have and carry the scout knife I grew up with... I have 5 sons that grew up carrying their scout knives evreywhere they went... they are teaching their kids the importance of how to properly carry and use a knife... what is happening in today's world that this generation today cannot carry the most versatile survival tool known to man? ...it's a sad statement of what we've become... by the way, the nuts that hurt people do not use SCOUT KNIVES!

This is insane...I used to take with me on all camping trips:

1) Kamp-King pocket knife my dad passed on to me, it was his old "scout knife", with lanyard.

2) Hatchet for cutting wood, on my belt

3) Folding saw for the times the hatchet wasn't the right tool, in a sideways belt pouch.

When I was in scouts I never went on a scout trip without a blade, and I don't mean a crappy swiss army knife. I carried an Old Timer with a 6 inch blade, and 2 pocket knives. A folding fully serrated karambit, and 2 bladed Ranger folder. I lost my "totin chip" for hatchet throwing with the scoutmaster's kids, but got it back after the campout. Wtf, banning knives? I think you need to update this.....this only applies to Scouts in the UK, not America. In addition, I think this may have been repealed--I have a few UK contacts as a result of the 2010 Jamboree (which I was on the staff of) who I've asked about this, and they hadn't known anything about it. Now while it's true that Scouts (UK and America both) cannot carry sheath (fixed blade) knives, I think regular pocket knives are still fine.

Depends on the scoutmaster and adult leadership. BSA guidelines aren't laws. Knives, liquid fuels, axes, etc. have guidelines concerning their use... I can get behind liquid fuel not being used, for obvious reasons. But the knives and axes... Heck let's ban forks ,too, 'cause someone could put an eye out! Anyway, dont' let the bureacrats ruin it.
