if you think you can treat TMJD with massage then see you next time when your problem got worse (yes it always gets worse with time if you don't get the right treatment). As long as in acute and mild situations we prescribe myorelaxant and NSAID to the patients. We also tell them to put a hot towel on the skin of their TMJ and massage there several times in a day and some other suggestions.
You can't treat a disc displacement, open or closed lock or any internal degenerative TMJD with massage.
@dtcez While I agree massage can do nothing to treat the root cause of TMJD, which is usually malocclusion or abnormal alignment between muscles of mastication and bone. I want to point out in reality dentists can do very little to cure it. Orthodontic treatment can reduce TMJD, but it can also exacerbate it. Myorelaxant and NSAID only treat the symptoms not the cause, you can't cure TMJD with these drugs.
This video says dentists should tap into billions of dollars of profit, using massage as a treatment for TMD. Massage feels great, temporarily, but does not prevent or cure TMD pain and damage. Dentists SHOULD diagnose, BEFORE prescribing profitable dental reconstruction, massage, or orthotics. Rule out, or diagnose (and stop) chronic sleep bruxing, with the most effective diagnostic, EMG CES to stop. Non-invasively. Rent an ipod sized Grindcare unit from a responsible dentist. Google it.
If i am ever to be rich, i will fund an organization to provide free cure for tmj patients. Tmj is something absolutely dreadful, and to see people trying to make money with possible `treatments` makes me sick.
Here I am suffering from this shit and here are people trying to make money.
if this `my reaction` pull-down next to the comment box had a `fuck you`, that would be my choice.
Billable treatments, temporary results, not fixing the problem! Most TMJ pain's from bruxing, causing trauma to more than muscles. Diagnose bruxing, & if yes, stop using CES. EMG tells you, and also tells if any treatment's working. Most TMD is not from malocclusion.
EMG diagnoses, and CES stops bruxing. Google bruxism EMG CES. An NIH study on EMG and bruxism pubmed/21564315 . An IADR on CES and bruxism is at 2010barce/webprogramcd/Paper138697.html
it was about halfway down a steep hill (ie. Gravity to speed me the Distance). I veered off to get off the street but ended up going into the the back-end of Toyota Highlander.... I ended up not being able to open my Jar much at all... ;_;
I visualize my left TMJ disc is Backwards hugging my ear drum so causing a temporary Deafness/Ringing in my left ear. and the disc on my right side went forward I believe..
I Suffered a Horrible accident on August 7th 2010....
I was on my Bicycle (was Younger Brothers) headed to the place I volunteer at on the nice Saturday, when (for some time I didn't recall even this much) Some jack ass kids (not sure about there age for certain teens to 20's??) crossed over the line like they were trying to scare the shit out of me (possibly playing chicken) in that instant and a split second reaction I veered off to get off the street but ended up going into a parked car..

Physical therapists do all of this; just a script from your dentist. In direct access states, just to to a PT and we can treat this without surgery.

Its nice to see somone has done some research into treatment for this. Anyone here that i have asked said there is no treatment!
I do know of one other alternative way for treatment, dry needling, but this has quite a few risks.
