@DubstopherWubson13 well thats because by default ps3's have massive hard drives, and do not ever need replacing, its pretty hard to use 250gb... i have over 100 movies on mine and im not even close, microsoft needs to save as much time as possible, having no screws saves you a few precious seconds so you can squeeze as much time as possible out of your xbox, and it gives you something you can cherish while your tenth xbox is away getting its rlod fixed

no..... every new harddrive in a system forces a format. u will lose everything if you do that. im just installing a 750GB in my ps3 slim. i did a 500GB on my 60 GB ps3 awhile back and works great so now just researched to see how to do it on my slim.

harddrive cant be read or something and it needs to b fixed or formatted

so the ps3 asks to plug something in with the 3.0 or 3.5 software version or later

@adolfoelsk8 put it back on your fat ps3 and copy all the files you want to keep onto something. Then press FORMAT , and then put it in your slim and try that and then copy the old files to ur hard drive IN THE SLIM.

I just bought a new one because it has less chance of breaking since it's newer. you can put your old drive into the new ps3 but it will make you reformat it and lose all of your data.

@BoltGundam Its basically using the same hdd. But since its inserted differently on the slim, the hdd from the fat ps3 can't slide into the slim unless the outer casing of the fat ps3 hdd is removed and exchanged with the hdd casing of the slim ps3. I've just tried it on mine.

@SharinganWarrior9 people people, all ps3s use 2.5" SATA HDDs its not a special HDD it can be found in most laptops thats why there is access to remove it so u can easily replace it with another. so YES the fatty hdd will work in the slim but ppl above are saying the casing wont. meaning u will have to remove the fatty casing and replace with the slim casing which is a no brainer

First you need an external hard drive to save all your data, after you have it connect it with a USB cable to the Playstation 3. Once you did that, You have to go to System Setting- Backup Utility-Back Up and wait till it backs up all the data.

Once you did that, turn on the power on your slim and go to System Setting- Back Up Utility- Restore, and select the USB connection you have, after that it will restore ALL of your data, and you have a new slim with a larger hard drive and all the data!
