Because the bill will enable them to do this without the need of a warrant, and even if the copyright content was linked to or uploaded by a guest of the site, and not the owner. This is going to hurt the wrong people, and the ones theyre actually after will still be able to share their content through P2P. The thought of how this power can be abused is very scary indeed. There's the DMCA act of 1998, PRO-IP Act of 2008, the 2011 Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, and now the PROTECT IP Act of 2012. Think this victory means anything? In my opinion it's kinda stupid idea. It can affect even videos with gameplay on youtube or fan-made videos(oh my god, it's illegal to show how you're playing!!111 lol). Even such a big and well-known companies as Autodesk, Epic games, google and so on - are against SOPA.
Have you tried to mirror your videos if you get the copyright infringement? Since sometimes that works as a workaround the autodetect system youtube has.
P3: Getting into jail because of sharing a link from youtube or copying an image over the internet it's all full of bullshit since when giving more attention to the companies was a bad thing they cry about how they're not getting the money but let alone the internet promotes them like hell if people like it they'll buy it and share it with other people and if those people like it they'll buy it it's not always the case but i would laugh if the companies bankrupt if SOPA or PIPA actually happens.

We need more public awareness to lift the ignorant veil, thankfully sites like reddit are doing a great job at, and especially with the presidential campaign going on if one of them supports SOPA theres a big target on thier. Stopping piracy is a good thing but not to these extreme measures.

They (the corporations) should lower their prices drastically if they want to stop piracy because they have more than enough money than any person should have on the pockets while more important persons in society like police officers, firefighters, soldiers and others more, aren't wealthy as actors, musician and other celebrity type figures. I think SOPA in america is just something they are trying to pass to justify what they do in the future, which they will then push there new powers even further until they censer everything, seriously they even extradited a UK citizen to the US for linking to copyrighted content on there website, not even hosting it and there website was not even hosted in the US, what he did is done by even google and is not Illegal under US or UK law but he has been extradited and will be tried in the US .

If the bill were to pass youtube would get "blacked out" or shut down by the hanover 2 producers because it would be taking away buisness. So in summery... Compared to other countries when their government steps outta line, they don't hesitate to take to the streets in protest. The Federal Reserve Act, The Patriot Act, NDAA are just a couple of small examples of how the government in just the last century has torn apart our constitutional rights behind us and even right in our faces. Will SOPA be denied? And more importantly, will we still be vigilant after?

Us Dutch folk were recently hit with similar stuff, a non-goverment agency managed to get a judge to have ISP permanently block Pirate Bay from access. Even if Pirate Bay were to change DNS or IP-records, they would only need to e-mail the ISP's in question and inform them to expand the blocking.
Yes really, Brein, a dutch privatly-controlled association. is able to mail ISP's and block websites from Dutch internet users.
