thank you tony, mike, phil, steve, and peter... for sharing your incredible talents with the world. your impact on music will be felt for many, many decades to come. even after you've all passed on. you all should be incredibly proud of what you've accomplished over the years! there will never be another band quite like genesis, ever.
I've come to apreciate the later albums of the pop trio. & i may be alone on this, but if you guys think the pop trio albums are garbage, try listening to todays pop music. Now thats real garbage, & it shows that even in the pop genre, they were able to write great music. Maybe not as epic as the prog days.but still, their pop songs are still damn good in my opinion. & if anyone is wondering, this is coming from someone who prefers the prog era genesis.
@corum428 Only an elitist snob or moron could ever refer to Daryl Stuermer as anything other than a masterful guitarist. Get over it. He more than fills the shoes and is versatile to boot. Look at his body of work and Hackett's. Stop mooning over 40 year old lineup changes.
@seanboud Only a sheeple would except anything that's thrown at them. daryl might be ok at jazz and running scales. But he cannot create the atmosphere that Steve did, which was integral to Genesis Proper.
where the arguments come to an end - start boorishness and rudeness ...... if you're so smart - the answer to why 90% of the repertoire in concerts GENESIS, a member of the hits of the period of Peter and Steve ????? (This is a confirmation of my words !!!!!!)
анатолий мунтян ' nursery cryme" - the greatest of GENESIS !!!!!! Unfortunately, with the departure of Peter, and then Steve - the band ceased to exist and became a mediocre pop band ...
Man,of ALL the lamb songs to choose,WHY must they insist on this one. The cheap looking animation doesn't help. I actually wouldnt mind if they played NONE of the Peter era material. It's not the same with Phil singing it. More tracks from Tail or Wuthering would be better. Hell, they should've opened the shows with Motherlode!
This is an amazing dvd set. The "Come Rain or Shine" documentary that comes with the set is worth the price of the set. What is truly amazing is the emotional connection the audience has with the music. In the cage, follow you follow me, Carpet Crawlers, I Know What I Like, during all of these songs there are people in the audience with tears running down their faces. Very powerful music. More powerful today than 30 years ago.
I got to see 2 American dates on this tour, and this was definitely my favorite performance of the whole show. Loved the visuals. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the show was great, but I was a little disappointed that this medley was over and done with so early on in the evening.
Love Daryl's guitar playing at the end of "In The Cage"... his shredding really adds to the emotion of the song. Shame they had to downtune the thing though (I think it's downtuned anyways...)
@crawfordfanatic Please, watch my tribute on you tube: serch "Fading lights" Cover by Pino Lettieri....and follow instructions for watch also "Behind the lines" too!!!! Enjoy.
I disagree Peter said when asked if he would do a Genesis reunion if he would do it, and he didn't say no he said maybe in time it would be possible and Steve is very keen on the idea, but it's just the problem with Phil's disability to drum after his surgery to repair his damaged vertibrae in his neck after this tour, because face it some people don't like Collin's era as much as Gabriels but Phil is one hell of a drummer, and Phil even said it would be alot of fun just to drum.
@brasileiroseia maybe is true, Peter doesn't love playing genesis music, but sure he know how to sing these old songs better than Phil or anybody else... these are the Gabriel's songs, i really hope he will sing another time with them in future! Genesis till '77 are the best band of the musical history, but however this show was great !
They are not Gabriel songs they are genesis songs. they were a band! Gabriel didn't write the music to almost all this album. Gabriel wrote almost all the lyrics to the lamb but the other guys write the music.
Gabriel left the band the band didn't leave him. Get over it!
@shire2005 respect other people dude, i don't like genesis works after seconds out, it means that i love also trick... and wind and... that are without PG.
So calm down and realize that i'm only saying that songs like InTheCage (and all till '74) are not so beautiful if sings Phil and not PG. That's my opinion. However is obvious that they are all masters of music, Tony, Phil, Steve, Mike, Anthony... and PG.
@brasileiroseia yeah, i feel the same. gabriel era genesis was fantastic, and i love it but i think it's clear that peter doesn't really like the old genesis stuff anymore. usually when he talks about it, it sounds like he had a good time and has some fond memories but is also in some ways almost embarassed by it. he thinks much of the music was pretentious, or at least that's how he comes across to me...
@brasileiroseia (continued...) as much as i love the old stuff, i think they really hit their peak in the late 70's. later in the 80's they really changed a lot from their progressive past, but while it's not my favorite stuff that they put out, it still is almost all amazing music. put it up to any other music that was coming out then, and it is so much better than any of it!
they never really did leave behind their prog roots, with tracks like domino and driving the last spike
El trio instrumental formado por Collins, Rutherford y Banks en vivo es insuperable, mas aun con el apoyo brindado por un Guitarrista de lujo como Daryl y un baterista de Escepcion como Chester.
I heard at the time, Peter wrote this whole album in two days while tripping on acid! that's a 4 sided album!....correct me if I'm wrong!

I dont think we will see the classic 5 together again its just been 2 long now.
It would take a huge commitment and I can c peter G point that it would b a backward look .The reality and the nostalgia would b 2 different things.
This last tour was very strong and mayb the should just leave it at that
