definitly get the 500 over the 250, if you get the 250 i garuntee you will be trading it in a year for something bigger, the 500 can easily get 55 MPG.
I am tossing around whether to get the 250 or the 500. I am 5' 5", 190 lbs... I heard the 250 is super nice, but has little power to get you out of a dangerous situation quickly. This will be my first street bike. Any thoughts from you???
Thanks for your thoughts! Hey, do you know if the 500 will be restyled anytime soon? It seems overdue. I really like how it looks now (I must be stuck in the 90's ??), but if they update it, it will be worth the wait for sure...
I thinkit is like the shark or allagator, which have not had to change their deisgn in millions of years. It is the perfect motorcycle, and is not broke, depndable, reliable, runs forever with just basic maintence, and I would say do not change a thing if you can. But sales slip, people want new. I also just bought a zumma. They discontinued it, but brought it back, perfect scooter. The nighthawk, I think it was y hinda, was made forever, also the perfect design.
What is a zumma? I am sort of a newbie with bikes. The Nighthawk name sounds REAL familiar. Also, looks like Kawasaki discontinued the Ninja 500R. 2009 was the last model year to get a brand new one. No shortage of used bikes I imagine. Anywhere from 200 miles since new to worn out and all used up.
A Zumma is a 50cc 2 stroke street legal scooter Yamaha that is , well, beefy, and goes 40 MPH out the door but can simply be modified to compete head to head with 250 cc bikes and go up to 80 MPH I think. I did convert mine but converted it back because of the noise. Plus it is actually my wifes and she didn't want it like that. lol..
On Kawa website they still have the Ninja 500R, but it says model year 2009. And they don't seem to be promoting it. I'm guessing they are selling what is left of the 2009s and that's it.
Cool fuckin bike, it's definately due for an updated design though. If they'd update this bike to look anything like the 250 it would sell like hot-cakes. It's cosmetically from the 80's
im 230 and 5'11 i felt it a little bit under so im looking for a bigger bike....but this bike looked good to me maybe your taller than me and even out :D
Yeah if ur a bigger guy I would agree, 500r would be a good starter bike. I just think it looks horrid comparing it to the 650 maybe even 250. Id get a 500 though. Still pretty badass
WRONG!!!You got the hp right but the top speed is wrong.I've got one.And I know for a fact it'll go over 119.lol.Come on now.Even if the bike had restrictions on it,it'll still go past 119.
there's no fuel gauge on this? are you just supposed to run it until the light comes on? (or until you figure out how much mileage you can get on a tank after that.) the only thing that i don't like about it =(
no light either, just sputters and stalls, then you switch to reserve, but with a motorcycle you can feel how much gas there is, so it doesn't really matter.
yeah you're too heavy for it.mine does 0-60 in2.5 seconds.I had some work done to it.Plus its a 94 model. So it has no restrictions on it.Mine has 140 but,I've went past that.I'd say i had it go around 165.Maybe faster.Cool bike though
this bike is excellent and not intimidating at all. im a gilr, 5'3 120 and i learned on a honda nighthawk a few months ago and got on this bike and have never been more comfortable on this bike than the honda!
I have a 500 and started on the 250. I recommend starting on the 250. 500 gets to 60mph in 3.7 secs. If its your first bike you will thank yourself for getting the 250

And after 3,000 years of perfect use, have you seen the new hammers. They look great , cept you cannot hammer a nail in strait with them. lol

I know what you mean about the wild variety of hammer styles now available! If I had to pick one, I wouldn't know what to get.

Don't be afraid of the 500! I started on the Ninja 500R, you'd probably get bored quickly with the 250.
