  • Ahhh.... Tamara Dobson (deep sigh)...

  • OMG 4:17! I am not looking at her legs or anything, right, boy, I was born toooo late by 10 years.

  • Sometimes I wish I was born in the 50's.

The 60's and 70's were the coolest decades by far.

This coming from a DnB head.

  • What a classic and what a great video!

  • <3

  • BEAUTIFUL AND VERY FUNKY!!!!!!:)

  • Roots, simply roots.

  • 2:46 someone please tell me the name of this picture and where i can get it from?

  • @mikkyochimp .. That is Marsha Hunt... I think that you can find a poster of her on amazon.. youtube her videos .. she is great.

  • roni size sampled this BIG TUNE

  • diplo tweeted me and said this was his favorite song!

  • Latin, soul, psychedelia, and funk all in one song. Awesome!

  • n.n ke bonito

  • Great vid and tunes!!!

  • <3 this !!!! :)

  • yeah (-:

  • @jazman49 Totally agree! This a revolutionary song which bridges Jazzy Piano,Touch of Psycehdelic,Little Soul all rolled into a Beautiful,Dreamy,Floating piece.

  • I love this... Its just such a great mixture, world music guitar, piano funk, rhythm drums, echo voice, minor blues key, soulful main vocals and edging electric guitar!! It's a masterpeice.

  • brings me back to atime of awareness, new music new sound..like charles stepney, minnie ripperton, earth wind and fire..ramsey lewis...especially live!!!!! Wish you had more Rotary Connection recordings.

  • night lounge,was a gd radio show.:(

  • Even more beautiful than the 4hero/Nuyorican version. It just sweeps you away.

  • The 47 people who didn't like this track are clearly clueless, deaf or both. YEAH I SAID IT!!! That's 3 more hopeless folks since I made my first comment about the dislikes.

  • Speaking of Genius, that's Phil Upchurch on guitar. The guitar intro is one cat playing, no overdubbing.

  • @tillmaninoff wow how do you know ? I am a UPCHURCH fan !!!

  • Does anyone know where i can get the lyrics for this song...its bloody fantatsic :-)

  • To funknroll, this is one of the most imaginative, powerful and utterly magnificent things I've ever seen ANYWHERE, let alone on youtube. It's been in my favorites list for quite some time, I pull it up periodically when I need some feel-good, y'know? I would STRONGLY suggest that you find a way to make a little money doing this, as you are clearly gifted. It would've been remiss of me to continue to stay silent about this, keep shining your light...

  • @mrmiles725 You right about the skills but please no advertisements. Youtube was cool b4 they sold us out. Exchange of ideas and sounds now, I'm bombarded by ads! Sucks Bad!

  • Those 44 dislikes I saw for this magnificent work are some hopeless, lost folks devoid of any compassion or light.

  • big up and beautiful RC groove style..Love

  • Loves Rotary Connection..

  • AWESOME SONG

  • brilliant

  • im in love with this song

  • THIS IS WHOM MINNIR RIPPERTON AND HER HUSBAND RICHARD RUDOLPH WERE WITH PRIOR TO HER SOLO CAREER!!

  • @doctafonk101 some one in the know got your roots down. hell of a tune

  • the nuyorican soul project did a wonderful cover of this-it won a grammy nomination!!

  • I´ve heard that stuff from "Nuyorican Soul" on Jazz Radio Lyon two years ago...my favourite radio station! They always play wonderful music like this! I didn´t know that this was a cover from 1971...fantastic...i love it!

  • 41 aren't.

  • amazing theme

  • Before all this censoring and political correct BS. People were having to much fun.

They had to put a stop to it,they felt so left out. Felt so insecure.

  • @gat333 i agree!

  • @Dunjiyan Agreed. We are not going to here REAL soul / rhythm&blues like this anymore in this day and age. This is just so gorgeous, you know? And come to think of it, they had more RACIALLY MIXED bands back in the day doing soul, disco, and psychedelic music too!

  • This is so fuckin beautiful! THank you!

  • It's true, we are all are made of star stuff. I love earth.

  • @Stonefactor yup the same material produced by the big bang is what makes up the human physique on a microscopic level Stephen Hawkings Across the Universe FTW!!!

  • Still awesome after all these years. Great video, too.

  • .......that is really too bad; this is a banging ass joint, despite the fact it's 40 years old itself. REAL SOUL from back in the day!

  • Excuse me, but 40 PEOPLE DISLIKED THIS??? Wow, oh well.........

  • @thesiouxgoddess Rather than the overwhelming majority who liked it....your cup is half empty ?

  • @PAULLONDEN ?????? Don't know what you are talking about so I'll leave it alone.

  • Oh that shows how it all started. Bravo..

  • 2:21 ARETHA FRANKLIN 2:29 Ms.NINA SIMONE R.I.P.2:32 African singer MIRIAM MAKEBA R.I.P. 2:48,2:52,2:55 MARSHA HUNT 4:08 ROBERTA FLACK 4:11Kila Kilu 4:56,4:58 SEXY PAM GRIER 5:02 CLEOPATRA JONES aka TAMARA DOBSON R.I.P.

  • This video opened my eyes alot, I was just in aw and amazement at the same time.

  • it's a funkadelic sound, only George C. and friends can come close, but this is more laid back and reserved.

  • SWAG!!

  • (Con)...This movie formula might have worked at the time and would have surpassed the cult campiness of Fonda's "Barbarella"!!! I mean, the buzz alone, as well as Ms. Welch's legendary catiness over face-time in competition with then-necomer Action herione Grier would have been enough to set Hollywood on fire even before beginning filming. Boy, could you imagine those two being billed as the new "Davis-Crawford 'cat-fight"? Maybe Beyonce can find a counter-part to play Vampirella!

  • Good grief! Wouldn't it had been something if the "moush-stash pete's" of Hollwood's then "rebel" independent movies had hit on the idea of seriously doing "vampirella" using both PAM GRIER and RAQUEL WELCH while they were in their 70s prime, each alternately playing the title character? I think both their physical measurements as well as their facil and bone structures were close enough to pass as sisters or close relatives. This movie formula might have worked at the time and would have (Con).

  • now this is an interesting song..

  • My search for everything Minnie Riperton has led me to this music. This tune is now the favourite on my hippy funk rock list and I love blasting it on the car stereo (if only I had an 8 track for authenticity - lol). Couldn't believe someone did a recent rehash of it though.

  • @FrancoDboss Definitly! Glad u feel.. Thanks for the heads up, good tune ; )

  • Speirbh00 I feel ur comment when listening to such powerful music while out in Eygpt makes it sound 10x more relivant to the current situations at hand. This is a Bigtune I'm a fan of oldies n hiphop but still very eclectic, look 4a tune called rock n roll gangster cream city. Massive

  • @FrancoDboss You're right Rock n Roll Gangster us a class tune, more people should check it out.

  • OMG! I've never heard this. My mom was a tight ass for sure. Rufus and EWF up to the ying yang but not this awesome music. Thank God for Youtube!

  • Wow! A genius video for a genius song! ; )

  • I was in my car tonight coming home from the store when I heard this song being played on WHUR ( Howard Univ. radio ). I last heard it some time in 1980. My college years in Chicago ( 75'- 79' ) are when I was introduced to P FUNK music grooving on with Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, etc. As a middle class white boy from Baltimore, I had felt a connection with this genre of music as well as R&B, Soul and Jazz.. Then, I discovered Roy Ayers. I could fill up another page on him. Thank you

  • this was an excellent collage to excellent music, thank you for taking the time to post it xxx

  • Minnie Riperton was the greatest background vocalist of all time. Besides her lead and background vocals with The Gems, The Rotary Connection/The New Rotary Connection, Minnie is very clearly heard, albeit uncredited, on many classic Chess-Checker-Argo-Cadet recordings by Billy Stewart ("Strange Feeling"), Bo Diddley ("Ooh Baby I Love You"), Etta James ("Ease Away A Little Bit At A Time"), Ramsey Lewis ("Les Fleur") and too many more to name. RIP Minnie, you are still very much loved and missed.

  • @KojiRecords she was a pretty good solo artist too lol

  • Minnie Riperton=AWESOME! The Rotary Connection was ahead of their time and SO DOPE! Their version of Tales of Brave Ulysses is the BUSINESS!

  • Got all the albums !!

  • There will never be another song with melody like this. Listen to that lead guitar...the piano and how it all comes together with the percussion and electric guitar. There are at least 4 genres represented...Jazz, Rock, R&B and Pop. Awesome. A very unique and one-of- a- kind jam.

  • Excellent video of a time period that should always be remembered.

  • .: beautiful sights for like spirits in sounds :.

  • if people would have any ideea what this classic is

  • woooow - I never knew this was originally done by this group... woow

  • Beautiful music and very good images.

  • Have been listening to this beautiful tune for 17 years and still fail to get bored by it. Sheer class :)

  • minnie ripperton!!!!! rest in peace ma

  • Here's a link to it:

    youtube DOT com/watch?v=zWSFllXLd4k

  • This is great. If you like this song, you should check out 4Hero's remix of Nuyorican Soul's cover of this song. It keeps the spirit of the original, but adds some modern drum and bass beats to it. Incredible version of the song, especially after the breakdown in the middle.

  • Let There Be Light !

    Peace, Love & Rainbows !

    & a Lot of SUN & Joy !

Upon You, to All & Be Forever !

    ( : - )

  • Love this song. Peace

  • love r n b of the 60's 70's wish i could of been there to c everything,but i was born in 79

  • right - im 21 so i might not know what im talking about..... but i think music like this was really inspiring for people at the time (40 years ago) it was out.... if you compare this to the kind of music out now like hip-hop... i think its degrading, i dont think it is inspiring at all and its just seems to be living up to negative stereotypes, i would much rather listen to this - much more meaningful and powerful

  • @snowball1988 I agree with you 100%!

  • @snowball1988 You are so right! Music nowadays are not meaningful at all. If you listen to R&B and Hip-Hop now, it seems like they just pick any word to make a song rhyme. I agree with the degrading part, especially towards women. And its not just with music, but with reality shows and so on.

The 60's and 70's may have been tough to live in for my mom and family in NY, but the music back then was so inspirational and worth listening to.

  • superb!

  • Adriana Evans' albums "Walking With The Night"

and "El Camino now available in the US on

    itunes!!!

  • I like this song.

  • beautiful....you did a fantastic job with the graphics....really enjoyed it....zgirl

  • Songs like this makes you proud to be BLACK...not African-American. Call me what I am...

  • :: Thank you, funknroll, for uploading this Rotary Connection gem. They were far, far, FAR ahead of their time. This song truly awakens something in me (going to replay this & dance to it) . . . Namasté ~ (•8-D

  • so lovely

  • makes me wanna shed a tear for all the bullshit we hear on radio these days. what went wrong with music? who instigated the bullshit we listen to these days?

  • At 2:46 - 2:57 they show Marsha Hunt. An American woman who left UC Berkeley, went to England in '66 and starred in the London version of the musical Hair. She was featured in British Vogue with her beautiful afro. She later had a child w/ Mick Jagger and is the inspiration for the song "Brown Sugar". She's written several books and survived breast cancer (she's 64 and looks great).

  • gotta love that guitar

  • brillantPeace
