  • There will never be another Eydie Gormé - God, I love her voice!

  • dang! i was only five years old.

  • wow...just wow! Sad that talent like this is a thing of the past...

  • Just a woman alone with a song--no dancers jumping around like they're having seizures, no flashing lights or pyro--and so mesmerizing.

  • @conradsdad That's called... "talent." :)

  • this is so awesome! i remember my parents listening to eydie, when i was a kid. many years ago

  • Wonderful what happened to all the female singers with voices like hers?No one can belt out a song like her.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • She sings totally awesome!! And with home recording, too! :)

  • Holy c**p I jumped out of my chair at the end! THANK YOU!

  • Frank Sinatra was "the voice". But this woman wasn't because she wasn't northamerican

  • When you're hot, you're hot.

Eydie's HOT here and she knows it.

Like the saying goes, "if it's true, it ain't braggin'"!

  • Absolutely love it! Thank you for posting it. I posted it on my FB wall...

  • thanks for posting this!! <3 i love her

  • No earrings. She relies on the natural beaty of her ears. A splendid lady!

  • She sings like a "showgirl". :O

  • One of the great American standards. Wow...

  • F**king FABULOUS! This dame could always belt with the best.

  • I only knew the Los Panchos groove...magnifica!! Magnifica!!!

  • Six are deaf!

  • Flawless performance.

  • My late husband and I saw Edye and Steve L. as an opening act for Fank Sinatra when F.S came here in March 1991. They were wonderful!!

  • @macarthur261 you were lucky to see frank sinatra wow.

  • The most amazing female vocalist ever. I love Eydie.

  • never heard a woman sing this song wonderful. I always heard tony bennett, sinatra and darin sing it but she does it justice :)

  • Such a little lady and so much sound and emotion!

  • Five star, baby.

  • No Auto-Tune here!!

Not like today's wannabe warblers (with a few exceptions). . .

  • Yeah! A powerfully inspired delivery. That was an awesome performance- true, no holds barred singing. LOVE IT! She did that great song justice.

  • someone commented she looks bad, but that was the style and she looks very chic for the times.

i'm in my teens and even i know that.

    great job eydie!

we should all have our prayers go out to eydie and her family for the deteriorating health she is in.

my heart broke in to a million pieces when i heard.

    I Love You Eydie!

  • Who are 5 that hit the wrong button?

  • Comment removed

  • I didn´t know she was so, so good. It´s been a pleasure "discovering" her. Thnaks for posting

  • WOW!!!! I was a fan of this woman's singing when I was a child in the 1960's and these clips are just testimonial to her amazing talent!!!!

  • She is sensational in every TV show performance I've watched so far on you tube, a fantastic interpreter of songs. I like her sexy arrangement of the old Johnny Cash song "I Walk the Line" from ABC's The Jimmy Dean Show" in 1964, also on You Tube. Check it out. I think the Eydie fans will like that one, too.

  • I've always loved Edye Gorme. Having said that, the song she sang here is terrible, she looks like she's wearing some kind of house dress rag, and the bangs of her hairdo is atrocious.

Still love ya though Eydie. Very sad to hear about your deteriorating health.

  • @vegaslover777 The song is a classic, her hair and clothes are of the period.

  • DANG I CAN REMEMBER SEEING THIS.......SHE WAS GREAT

  • My parents first hi-fi and they bought some Sinatra albums and one Steve and Edie. Amazing how great 50 years later!

  • It doesn't get any better than this!

  • A magnificent voice from a pretty DIVA .....

  • This girl...man..she's white but she has that real motown thing going on. What a combination. She's so mainstream but it's those sharps and that syncopation. When

America was great '60's style :)

  • i'd bang her

  • classy lady, great voice,

  • eydie has a great voice!

  • She is great. this is one of the best things on the tube. I has seen this 20 times

  • OMG... i had no idea EG was such a HUGE!!!! talent on her own...THIS IS EXTRAORDINARY!! ..in a league with Dame Judy G and Barbra S (and others)...Wonder if she is still around and singing...this is a God's gift talent...LOVE IT, thank you for posting.

  • @lotusbuds2000 Yes, she and Steve are still performing. She has posted some songs on this site along with her email address.

  • They don't make voices like this anymore. She is amazing!

  • @msmcis Show business royalty right up there with Judy (who was a big fan)

  • @Robert4770 Show business Royalty says it all-I could not think of a more appropriate label. Thanks for saying it.

  • shes wonderful!....I heard shes not in good health now!....and that she no longer tours anymore!....has anyone got any information about her?

  • I remember when I brought the album (yes, record album-33 1/3 speed), and this was my personel favorite from it. She did the same arrangement on this Tonight Show. Just Great. Thnaks for posting this.

  • It´s wonderful, thanks a lot for share this video

  • Sing it Eydie Fabuuuuuuuuulous . What a voice and such class....

  • I saw them in the late 60's at The Concord Hotel in the Catskill Mountains and have loved them ever since

  • God, COULD I love any woman more than I love Eydie Gorme? Don't see it happening. Johnny's words towards the end of this clip say it ALL..."It's great to see somebody who can sing get up there and do it." And, friends, DO IT, SHE DID!! Full Stop!

  • Saw them both in Clearwater Florida in 2005...was billed as the farewell tour; not sure if they did retire after it though. Absolutely an enjoyable evening! I would see them again a minute! Come back out on tour, Steve and Eydie; your public adores you!

  • I saw Eydie and Steve perform at Westbury Music Fair 2 years ago....and she could still bring the house down in a minute....a great duo to this day !!!!

  • Wow What a voice What a performer

  • When their boy died suddenly they both became different as one might understand. I see them from time to time on Larry King. Eydie and Steve spawned tons of husband and wife musical teams (my mom and dad being one of them). Keely and Louis, etc. Steve had the better voice as Edyie tended to scream a bit.

  • she is fabulous! where can I see her in Vegas?

  • Eydie isnt dead. She is still performing in Vegas and A.C. She is a powerful singer and still sounds incredible.

  • Can you tell me where she's performing? I want to see her. Thanks! Mike

  • I'm not sure but they do the Vegas/ AC/ casino circuit. I never had the pleasure to see them in person. I did see Keely Smith on my 40th BDay 6/5/08 at BirdLand Jazz Club in NYC. Keely was incredible. She sang happy Bday to me. I also seen her in 1994 while performing with Sam Butera @ the Desert Inn in Vegas. Keely made my 40th birthday extremely memorable. I Loved Louie Prima too. Eydie voice is Powerful & hasnt lost her touch. Keely was also in great the night I seen her. Hope it helped,

  • I've seen several places online that Eydie's not in good health. It didn't seem as if she was going to perform any timee soon. Too bad, for sure. What a voice - and what delivery. Dang. She's got it all.

  • Its an eye for an eye and the whole world is blind ladee da.

  • great clip! Thanks!

  • Eydie was beautiful, sexy, and her voice a perfect pleasure to hear. Thanks for posting this. It made my day. I think that Johnny Carson "had it going on" too, eh?

  • Is there any body today as good as her, and of course singing something that can be called "music"...?

  • I am 50 and have sung all my life, which includes classical training. That said, I'd give anything to be able to sing like this.

  • SUPER! She's just tops.

  • So? You tube... Where are those video's of this lady in the fifties???

  • PERFECTION! She embodies the song. She IS the song! God, I miss her!

  • InGeneral: Simpy Great. Listen, pay attention. And Continue the Journey.

    JOY THANKS....

  • THAT'S MUSIC .... wow ... Thank you.

  • As good as it gets!

  • A fabulous singer. Wish the new artists could all sing this beautifully.

  • Awesome. Not only can she sing it, but swings and enjoys it to the max while performing this number.

It's nice to hear it done with an original twist like this. The intonations and emphasis in certain places is Edyie's style here.

  • This is a SENSATIONAL performance that will be played as an EXAMPLE to everyone in the fu

  • Very glad that you did save this footage that was deleted (is it easy to do?).

What a great performer all around! Thanks!

  • OUTSTANDING performance!!!! Johnny's comment at the end of the clip is dead accurate and well-earned and well-deserved! Thank you VERY much for sharing this with us!!!!!

  • I don't normally like "belters," but she was really good - especially with a swingin' Don Costa arrangement behind her.

  • Eydie and Johnny two of the all time greats

  • why yes they all went to the same hair stylist then

  • Carson hit the nail on the head with his comment....she can really sing...she knows she can sing... she takes joy in singing and she sends all that energy and that fantasic voice and joy right out to us...40 odd years later you still respond to her brilliance !!!

  • That pretty much says it all. To my knowledge, she was never had the "sudden" smash success of, say, a Streisand, but you can't ask for better than this. I'll bet she gave a great show in person.

  • @miltsar I'm with you and Carson. I hate false modesty in great entertainers. How could she not know she can sing the hell out of anything?

  • Fantastic!

  • Beautiful Great2C... This is history and the musical legacy of a superb performer... I hope they leave this alone. Thanks for uploading this.

  • This is so fantastic! Gives me chills! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

  • Wow. Now that's a beautiful voice. Love her and Steve.

  • The executive at NBC show have had their butts kicked for taping over all of the old Johnny Carson shows. What a shame. Blank tapes were expensive in those days, but looks like they could have saved them on some cheap film format at least for historical purposes.

  • Perhaps Brian Wilson was watching this night and was reminded of the tune and decided to make it apart of The Beach Boys (legendary) Smile album.

    Just a thought.

  • Wow! She's great! Memories of her appearances on the Carol Brunette show. If only Youtube had it.

  • Truly a lottery pick as a singer, just like her husband. She could make it in any era.

  • Great song and great singer.

  • She did a great song called "I Want You to Meet my Baby" in '64 and it was posted on Youtube, but then it was taken off. PLEEEEZE repost it! Sigh!

  • Johnny was absolutely right-on by saying, "What a delight to have someone who knows how to sing get up there....".

    She's Magic.

  • this girl can sing my biology book and i'd probably be hanging on every word!!!!

  • Yes, It's called singing. Many young people today have'nt heard of it. It's not on the radio anymore or even on TV. Except on American Idol! Ha Ha Ha ha Ha ! I just made a joke!

  • THIS is how it's done.

  • Fabulous! I have a number of these songs that I picked up from 2 L.P. in the 60's. Eydie Gorme is the consumate torch songstress of the late 60's at least! Excellent Post!

  • for me, personally, I love hearing a good singer take a good song that has been overdone and see if they can make it their own, Eydie certainly does that here... the question is always.. is it better than the other versions. As to what the world needs now.. find Diahann Carroll's live version... she does that up fine :)

  • ONE of the best !!

  • great singer..one of the best ever.

  • i've got some serious goosebumps :)

  • This was originally in Living Color.

  • Yeah Eydie, get it, girl :)

  • I'm glad this is back up on YT. Everyone I've ever shown this to (Eydie fans or not) is blown away by this performance.

  • You go Eydie...dynamite...after Barbra and Judy I love her...and Piaf and Cline

  • I couldn't agree more, Ger! This as STUPENDOUS. Her voice is incredible!!

  • I agree thanks for caring, Great 2c

  • blows all of todays singers away.

  • Oh man, does this ever move!

  • When singers could sing! Fantastic song from a great album!

  • You go Eydie!!! LOL

  • Saw Steve and Eydie last Feb in Sarasota and they still sound great. Two of the best singers ever!

  • This was all done live. What do we got today?

  • A bunch of lip-syncers, and some of them can't DO THAT competantly enough to save their own lives!

  • UN-BE-LIEVABLE!

Just like every Eydie performance. Sheer perfection! She and Steve are the very tops!

I agree with devorayael - I never ever tire of listening to Eydie sing.

  • I must be crazy! I can listen to this woman all day long and never get tired of her! Check out EYDIEGORME site. It's amazing! No one can or will ever sing with such precision, emotion and energy. Love it all day long!

  • Unbelievable, nobody can belt a song out like Eydie! And I love what Carson says and it's true - "what a delight to hear someone who really knows how to sing"

  • there are loads of video from the late 60's from Britain too (ok about 10 or more tapes!!)

But this looks fantastic (the copy has been "Smered" with vasoline) no no reason though..

For purely historical reasons did the tape have an Entire Carson show?.. who was the orig Uploder?

  • wow what a performance!

btw I saw a VCR in high school and I graduated in June 1974.

  • hi mgmb1959......EYDIE IS THE BEST --- YESTERDAY, TODAY AND ALWAY!!!!!!!

  • You got that right!!! Long live Eydie!!!!

  • Why are carson's early shows no longer in existence?

  • "Virtually all of the pre-1970 shows, including Carson's debut as host, were lost to history when, following standard procedure at the time, the extremely expensive videotapes were reused."

Source: The Wikipedia article named "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson"

  • Eydie was a hoot !

  • Bravo Eydie! You truly are one of the BEST!

  • Thanks for sharing this...she was SO under-rated...and so great!!!

  • WHAT A VOICE...now THIS is talent

Thanks for sharing. Eydie, you're still the BEST.

  • What a treat!! Thanks so much for posting this. Barbra who indeed!!!

  • Amazing. No, rather, godly.

  • barbara who?

  • This is a real treasure. One really great singer - a favourite of mine, and it is amazing the number of people who only vaguely know her name! And this is one of my favourite songs she does. Thank you so much, both people: the original poster and the guy who brought it back from the grave. Brava!

  • nahh ya alls worng.. there were LOADS of home type VTR's avalible from about 62-3 onwards. there are many british shows that ONLY exist from open reel sony type formats. although most have gone through a "optical transfer" before they get to us. which is a pity

  • Seems YOU are wrong...first VCR was not

introduced in the USA until 1975...and '

Korean artist Nam June Paik bought one...

This video may have been done by a professional 1" machine...Note that in the

mid-Sixties,only wealthy people like "Playboy's" Hugh Hefner had one.

BTW, I'm still looking for Eydie & Steve

(guest hosts) w/UFO expert Frank Edwards...

    "Tonight",October 1966.

  • I recall first hearing of the VCR when I had just entered the labor force as a young adult, this was in 1976. That was around the time I saw it being advertised, and the only brands I saw were Sony Betamax- it came in a wood cabinet and was $1,000.00- and Motorola and Magnavox come to mind. They were not Betamax. All were very big and clunky, and

had big keys you had to press hard. All the tapes and films were made in both versions until Betamax disappeared. I couldn't afford 1 'til later.

  • Thank you ! this is great :)

  • what a great version..just as good as sinatra...(before you all jump on me) my opinion

  • Sinatra - PHE!

  • amongst my albums, one of the greatest purchases i made was from goat hill records in costa mesa-saw it across the street coming out of baskin robins-for 65 cents,i bought her 1957 album(her second)-eydie swings the blues-

  • We Love Eydie Gorme she is a Living Legend

  • WOW! To be one of the lucky people sitting in the Tonight Show audience that night..Her performance would have lifted me right out the seat!!! Spectacular!

  • Just discovered her! It's the first time i have written on this site, but she is amazing!

  • Thanks, Great 2C. I KNEW that other "lost"

"Tonight Show" video HAD to exist, somewhere!

  • Other video in 1966: "Telcan" (primitive recorder with fast-spinning tape)...or,if one knew "Playboy" founder Hugh Hefner...had 1" professional machines.

OR via an artists' copy...I was privileged to visit Steve & Eydie's then-Beverly Hills

production company, Stage II, in May of 1979

(I'd acquainted myself with their then-assis-

    tant,the late Ellen Arnopople.)

I saw an amazing collection: "Dinah Shore Show,1961" read just ONE of their tapes!

But "Tonight" Show I did not see there.

  • HOW DID YOU GET THIS VIDEO?? Johnny Carson

"Tonight" Show was basically erased prior

to 1969. I followed Steve & Eydie since

    June,1962.

Eydie & Steve were guest-hosts on "Tonight"

in October,1966 with the late UFO expert,

Frank Edwards. IS THIS FROM THAT SHOW??

    Please write me!

  • I've already written in the video description that this clip doesn't originate from me but from another user who uploaded it here almost two years ago. So I can't provide you any further information about the exact date of the recording or on what kind of recorder it was made. All the information I have about the clip is contained in the video description. And I also don't have any further Eydie Gormé clips (since you asked me that in your personal message).

  • She is not underrated. She chose a family over a career. Smart lady. She is very loved in her country and in Latinamerica. The media is the media....they value nothing except cash. We all remember her wishing that era was still around. Thank you for the images. I'm 42, Mexican-American..Check out her albums with Los Panchos. Simply incomparable. ONE OF A KIND.

  • She's my favorite! I'm 48, and when I was little she was always singing in our home! I appreciate her music even even more today! Thanks Mom!

  • This a really a treat. One of the great singers, Eydie Gorme, belting out the great Johnny Mercer's I Wanna Be Around...thank you, this is a fantastic video clip!!!!!!

  • I have to agree with everyone I heard Eydie Gorme when I was a kid growing up. My Mother loved music and bought all the LP's that were available and she & her husband Steve Lawrence another great singer was fabulous.

  • The picture quality is great for a 41 year old VideoTape. Most tapes from that period are no longer viewable (Look at the shocking picture quality of "The Oscar Levant Show", Which is on YouTube)

  • Thank you for posting this . Very wonderful. I have never heard her sound more lovlier than in this piece of music

  • Just great...

  • Thank you for posting this video! I have been on the hunt for a copy of her "Greatest Hits" album, which seems to no longer be in production. Robyn

  • they couldn't stop clapping

  • The most underrated singer of all time!
