  • i Just bought this and let me tell you, if you buy the package from guitarcenter, you will love yourself forever, this has extremely high quality, and yes there are only 8 tracks to record on, but this system has a tool called 'bounce' which mixes two tracks into one, which means you really have 16 tracks to record on:D

  • This system suffers from latency as computer software?

  • @T0pMus1c

No it doesn't have any latency...in fact it has zero latency. To address the person above about the 8 inputs, it doesn't need 8 inputs, you can route the stereo inputs to any track. also if you need additional inputs Tascam sells a mixer that will work nicely with this unit for about $150. Unfortunately, I sold my unit and switched to DAW (computer) recording, which is cool however, there is a substantial ( with most DAWS) Studio One is easy to use though.

  • Check out my song " Stay the Night" Recorded with this unit. For some reason I cannot load a video response

  • So is it possible to record drums using the 8 inputs in the back on say 6 mics, then 1 for git and 1 for bass at the same time? does it split up the tracks if you then pull them through windows or does it mix it automatically to 2 tracks? Thanks!

  • Any one know if i can connect my 16 channel mixer to this ?i want to record drums but the 2 inputs are limiting( im using a behringer europower pmp3000)

  • @masterfrostyfreak in the back of your mixer there should be a rca line out. Plug the line out rca from your mixer to the tascam input. you will need a rca to 1/4 inch plug cord or an adapter to go from the rca out to 1/4 inch in. This will allow you to run whatever audio that is going into your mixer into the tascam.

  • HOLY FUCK, IM GETTING IT.

  • This unit: very awesome quality and accuracy.

I usually like to record onto this unit and transfer each track onto my computer, then mix down on a DAW. I just think it's much easier than trying to mix down on the Tascam.

  • to all of those thinking your gonna make a good recording by yourself on one of these machines.... only a few get the results. drum machines and bad musicians can not get pro results. get a good band together before you waste your money.

  • can't you record straight onto a computer into software like cool edit pro

  • I'm deciding between this and the Boss BR-800

  • @DiatonicVids forget BOSS, This is the one.

  • I still dont get why it only has 2 inputs.

There should be an input for each track.

  • Just picked on up, this unit looks great and feels solid. Ill post a vid after completing a couple tracks

  • I traded in my Dp-04 for some money and with the rest i saved i bought this beuty

  • This machine great. If you want to hear sound quality check out my song stay the night. It was my 1st full song on the Tascam. It was mostly improvised. Listen to that song and thento Religious Persuasion which was done in a studio. The quality of the Tascam =s the studio song. 0 handicaps when you consider that you can link to the computer via usb and further enhance your sound. You have many options with this unit. Great quality for a low price, and so extremely easy to use!

  • By all hi, It is necessary to buy advise please! A sound are pure(clean)? What handicap gives out?

  • is this good enough if you want to make a cd?

  • I seriously think I'm going to get this. I've had about enough with fooling around with computers and their complexities and issues.

I was wondering as well....How exactly do you edit your songs on it?

  • how do u edit? i cant figure out how to move and paste.

  • Does anybody know if this unit is good for playing backing tracks?

  • @Rontrick Yes, and if you like the tracks, you can save just the individual tracks to use later if you want. It's called TAO. Track at once, recording to a CD. You could also send them to a friend or send the whole song, called DAO, disk at once, with two tracks still open for them to finish, mix, maaster, and finalize. When finalized the CD can be played anywhere on any CD or DVD player.. And if you find your not happy with the master, you can re-do it. For 400 bucks you will love it.

  • @Rontrick

  • Can the SR 18 be connected to the DP 02 ? Could someone please let me know, thanks.

  • The sound quality from this unit is excellent check out my song Stay the Night , it was done solely on the Tascam DP-02. Its nice because you can import via usb to to your computer and input into any DAW or clean up or add additional effects in Sound-forge or Audition. I will be posting more songs I also have 2 other songs but they were done by other recording means. One song Religious Persuasion was done in a professional studio 15 yrs ago, whats cool is the Tascam sounds just as good.

  • I HAD A SONG IVE BEEN WORKING ON AND I MADE SOME COPY AND PASTE MISTAKES AND I WANT TO GET THE SONG BACK TO HOW IT WAS ORIGINALLY SAVED.. I TRIED USING THE REVERT BUT THAT DIDNT DO ANYTHING. I ALSO TRIED TURNING OFF THE POWER AND RELOADING IT, BUT FOR SOME REASON IT SAVED ALL THE MISTAKES I MADE. IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN GET THE SONG BACK TO THE ORIGINAL WAY I HAD IT SAVED???

  • i would say for the price you might as well go with 2488 neo 24 trk digital recorder i got one through musicians friend for 499.99 it came with 160 gb hard drive all you need

  • i would say for the price you might as well go with 2488 neo 24 trk digital recorder i got one through musicians friend for 499.99 it came with 160 gb hard drive all you need

  • Check out my Rock song Stay the Night recorded with the Tascam D-02, To hear my songs Search for Stupdbomb1.I have 2 songs posted. one recorded in a professional studio in 1993 and the other recorded on the Tascam. The Tascam recording (Stay the night) sounds better than my other original song: Religious Persuasion and I paid $400 in 1993 to record to record it.

  • hey do you need a microphone to record with itwithout plugging in to it because i just wanted to to play guitar and it to pic up the sound would it do that?

  • I just bought this recorder, and if ur planning to record an acoustic guitar all you need to do is select the Mic line button and no Mic is needed cause there is one built in @MrFreddiebrandt

  • @MrFreddiebrandt You need a microphone.

  • serious question. i have the tascam dp-02 and an old early 80's model peavey mk iv 24 channel mixer. can i hook these two machines together to record drums? my original plan is to route all my drum mics into the peavey mixer, then run the mixer into the tascam. is this possible? and if so what inputs/outputs would i be hooking to/from? please research and find info on the mixer if you can because i have had no luck with this. thank you.

  • I love how at 0:15 the "complicated programs" is just Itunes rofllll

  • can i use this with my pc or a vga screen help

  • how many tracks can i put on a cd at one time?

  • @TAMA6344 2

  • @TAMA6344 it depends on how long the tracks are (cds usually have an 80 minute capacity). if you're talking about amount of audio channels, then two.

  • I have the same problem : "mount error:C0" when powering it on.

I saw on a forum a guy proposing to try to push down the upper arrows on wheel cursor and the button "Track edit" during the powering up. If it is not reseting the machine, send it to Tascam to be fixed. It had no effect for me...

  • how can i fix my tascam dp-02, when i turn it on, apears mount error, please power off, can you guys help me with that, please...thank you

  • ITS NOT EASY !!!!!!! OR FUN AT TIMES !!!!!

  • @pugNdrum but would you recommend this recording device?

  • @Kr4ftw3rk YES now.... because i know everything about it now ! I was mad I day ago but if you do get it and no other vids dont help you ( or you just want to ask me ) msg me and I will reply to mostly everything ( the manual dosent really help lol ) but the recording sound if fantastic :) And the flash card is very big so i'd go for the USB port ... but that is a odd shaped one but ill give you the right type of one if you get the USB. hope I helped

    Adam :)

  • @Kr4ftw3rk oo wait iv got the dp-02cf not the dp-02 sorry : /

  • @pugNdrum I wouldn't, seriously better just getting a computer although then you need an M-Box interface to take all the mics, I would however buy the Tascam ones that deal with analogue sound and are cheaper second hand.

  • is he jacking off at 1:16 ?

  • LOL! 1:16 XD

  • Would people recommend this item? Why? I've been trying to look for a good recording device at a low price. A lot of reviews I read are good, but I've read some negative reviews lately that are giving me second thoughts :I help?

  • can this act as a interface for pro tools and power it, like the m-audio interface's

  • Are you able to plug in a midi keyboard directly into the recorder?

  • i can't seem to actually record with it. i've read the manual, and I have my microphone connected and have even had my piano connected, and it won't pick any of it up. Can someone help please?

  • @dearlullaby14 Have you assigned the track ?? and if you have is the knob next to the assign button turned all the way right ???? and do you know acctually the steps to record / :)

  • is it possible to loop stuff together, like for a one man band. Could i record a lead guitar part, then a rhythyme and loop them together on the recorder?

  • This unit sucks, they make it seem like its so easy to do all your recording, when its not. First; once I connect the dp-02 to my laptop, I loose all control to the unit, it only plays wav. files, which are the hardest type of file to covert too... and last once i connect the unit by usb to my pc; it doesn't show any of my files... this is a good unit for musicians; but for rappers who just want to sample instrumentals.. it sucks..... i feel like I wasted my money purchasing this unit.....

  • So far, I've been using my keyboard. It's fine for basic drum tracks, but I can't do much for good fills. I'm not a very techinical person, so I'll have to work on that a bit more. I just lay down a basic drum pattern and record everything after that.

  • Can this be used just as a interface for Logic, Cubase ect...

  • does anyone no how to change the file type on these so u can play using windows media player

  • do you have to hook it to a computer

  • I am a singer song writer and have been recording with mine for about seven months now and really like it. I have no problems with it, and it's real easy to use. I record my entire demos with it then directly download them to my computer. I record my guitar tracks with mics and also direct into the recorder. The eight track are great, plus you can bounce those track into two tracks and record more on the other six tracks. Check out the songs that I recorded on my channel.

  • Fixin to get one, myself....

Hope it's what I'm looking for.

  • Tying to figure out the same thing.

  • @IdontCheckMyEmails it will be

  • yeah i just got this and i love it! easy to use, and like they say affordable and fun.

  • does this record stereo tracks? 2 input- L & R

  • can this record more than one track at a time, like two mic`s for drumming?

  • Yes it can... I think two.

  • One thing you should mention is that the DP 02 CF effects [aka multi-track] is post.only

This means if you plan on using the eq, and effecting your signals during recording, NONE of the adjustments or effects you make during mixdown will record to the track, you can hear them on but they will not be saved

Just remember when looking for a multi-track, always ask up front if your deck has PRE and POST options for eq/effects.

  • Microphones and pre-amps DO make a BIG difference in the quality of your recordings. I love my DP-02 so far. I mainy use a condensor mic with a pre-amp for acoustic guitar and vocals while directly injecting most of the bass and electric guitar parts straight into the recorder.

  • Just some advice for people...it actually depends on the mic mostly what kind of sound you want because they have specific mics for either acoustic , electric, or many other things it just depends on the distortion really. for example you wouldnt want to record an electric guitar with a mic made for acoustic b/c you wouldnt get the right sound. Also you never want to plug your mic or recorder directly into your amp or other accessories. It creates a much clearer sound if you record through a mic

  • I have one. works nice except Ive had power up and power down probs. got it repaired at a tascam repair shop. 10 hrs of use same thing. cept this time I could get it to power up If I jiggled the female adapter that connects to back of unit. Now that quit working. The male pin in unit is stable. but the female hookup is loose. It cost me 75.00 for the ist repair. What cost now Tascam? Why did Musicians Friend send me a junky one? Huh? Maybe because I didn't get insurance? some friend.

  • i want one

  • Can you use your tube amp's distortion or pedal distortion and run it into the dp-02? will the sound quality be good?

  • Does this thing have pretty good pre-amps?

  • this thing is the best investment. go for it

  • umm i was wondering if i can record but over a beat ?

  • you can record over the beat as long as you record the beat first

  • @killlist867 this is a great unit. It is industry quality. It uses 16 bit wav files so you can mix the master mix on a pro tools rig .

  • I have used the FX-CD with the 60gig hd and cd burner with little difficulty to make demos. Its quite a nice little setup for small home studio recordings, It just takes a bit to learn and tweak. It is far from crap, and can produce some nice sounding demos, Just take the time to learn how to use it, and keep in mind it is not a 20k studio item.

  • I think I'm going to get it. It's my first recorder. I feel dumb for asking, but do the monitors plug into the red and grayish/black inputs on the front? Or what's the deal with them?

  • i just got this recorder about a week ago and i'm very happy with it. the inputs in front are for the headphones and the footswitch, but there ARE monitor plugs in the back panel. but yea i would highly suggest buying this. great deal.

  • Thanks man! I'm definitely going to get it in a month. Are you gunna record anything like acoustic drums on it? Or distorted guitar? I wana know how it sounds.

  • well typically i record guitar and synth on it. the higher distortion is all-right, but not as good as some of the other effects on it. and for acoustic drums, i don't have any good drum mics or a mixer... or a drumset for that matter lol but it seems like it has some pretty cool drum effects on it. so yea i would recomend it.

  • Awesome. The drums / guitar are my worries. I play in a metal band so, things are noisy. If worse comes to worse, I'll just mic the amp. Anyways thanks so much man!

  • yeah man unless your amp has a lot of noisey feedback, that would be a much better alternative than plugging your guitar into the unit. that's just my opiinion tho. no problema!!! :D

  • Piece of crap

  • Really? Is it that bad?

  • why? im planning on buying it, and really dont know too much about recording

  • i don't see anything wrong with it. i've listened to some songs on youtube that have been recorded on the tascam dp02 and they sound beyond professional. i'm gonna go ahead and buy it, cuz it sounds like a great deal. i hope i helped!

  • Do you remember what the videos were called? I'd like to hear some before I buy it.

  • Also, I read that there is a WARNING for using stereo out line from an amp to the unit. How critical is this? Because I am not getting quality sound w/o lining out from my amp, but on the other hand don't wanna fry my unit!

  • Okay, does the CF also have a 40 gig hard drive? I've found that the 1 gig flash card that was provided with the unit is extremely lacking in the memory dept. Said i was tapped on mem when laying down a 5th track.....

  • well it can only record 2 channels to the card at a time unfortunatly... im not too sure wether you can just buy a bigger flash drive but you can only really have 4 tracks on a 1 gig

  • also you could save it to the tascams internal memory which is the 40gig

  • I have the DP-02CF.....does that model come with the internal memory? I know the DP-02 does-

  • this is gay

  • is there any information on the CF version anywhere??

  • i need you to show me how to save my cd instrumentals in tascam nd show me how to record off the machine almost like showing akid just make a short video aka starving artist
