Thank you. My dad used 2 have a xr7 bt the car was all bad. So he threw it away bt he stayed with parts that were still good.bt It's a lot of work to change the harness. The good thing my dad keept the harness. Thanks for telling me
@510pancho. If your Cougar is a standard Cougar you will not be able to use the XR7 cluster without rewiring your car with the XR7 wiring harness. It is a big job.
@northportmarine27 - It is called "Polar White" when applied to a Mercury vehicle and the same color is called "Wimbledon White" when on a Ford. Same color different name. It is a kind of creamy white color.
I never raced it nor timed it on the 1/8 or 1/4 mile. It does fine for cruising and will run all day on the highway getting 20+ mpg with the AOD transmission. Unfortunately it does require 92 and better octane.
Thinking of buying one of these. My dad had a 67 XR7 Dan Gurney Special. He worked for Ford Motor Co in 66-67 and built the analog dashboard clocks. Many years later, when the clock stopped working, he disassembled it and found his inspection sticker inside. He had built the clock on the assembly line in Oct of 1966!
Is it just me or was the outside and interior immaculant on this car. The center consule looked factory new. you just don't find them this clean. No after market like mustang or camaros. To bad, Cougars have style and class.
Thanks. It is a mixed answer, all 67 and 68 XR7's are hardtops as there were no Cougar convertibles produced in those years. '69 was the first year for the convertibles and yes it could have been an XR7.
I really like the sequential rear indicator lights of the Cougar. Shame they don't have such novelties on cars these days. Gives the marque even more character.
so clean!!! i have the same car. except its a 289 xr7 wood grain dash and clock in the center console. what i did notice is that your front license plate folds down. i have never seen that. its definately not installed on mine that way. is that license plate fold down hinge common? and where can i get it? lol
wow. when you popped the hood my eyes just about popped out. that is so clean man. was that an s2000 in the garage? would that be the daily driver? life must be nice
@c7xr7 well for a first car the XR7 sounds amazin. New paint job maybe some interior work. THe car is like 43 yrs old new transmission 302 engine, new shocks, new battery and alt.
@c7xr7 cool. I did not know that. I thought all XR7's came with the vinyl tops. nice piece of info to know thanks. again nice cat. did you look at mine?
Beautiful car I'm curently restoring my 67 cougar w/ a 302 love videos like this I will be submitting my cougar project when it's done thanks for the video.

Nice car. I got a 68 xr7 really similar but I do have one question. Why is your idle at nearly 2,000 rpms. It should be less than half that
ubersweetponage 1 year ago
@ubersweetponage It was a cold start, warm idle is around 1k.
c7xr7 1 year ago
@c7xr7 Okay that makes sense. Im not used to that but probably because I live in Alabama. lol

@SuperNicaraguan The front flip down plate is just a rear plate holder installed on the front. It makes it easier for me to open the hood.

mammathree 1 year ago
@mammathree
Yes, the only Cougar to have wood-grain dash was the XR7 model option.
