Tonight at dusk, our family observed this same phenomenon in Decatur, Alabama. There were at least 1,000 birds swarming overhead; swooping and gliding; briefly landing in treetops until the upper branches were full and then "exploding" into the sky again. Researching online, I found this activity is called "murmuration". It is truly captivating to watch - even our 8 yr old triplets were thrilled with the spectacular show and eagerly watched for 30 minutes or more.
Thanks for adding this and especially thank you for NOT adding music. I love footage of starlings, but for some reason every cornball on the internet feels they need to ruin it by making it in to some cheap, trite music video.
isn't nature wonderfull? we have the same in the city of Lisbon everyday at sunset in Campo das Cebolas...
