  • Fantastic !!! Guitar Perfection !!! T4P !!!

  • Great music.

I first heard Leo Kotke do his piece "Watermelon" on the radio driving my '60 Chev in Eugene, Oregon in 1969. Then I bought his instrumental album. I've got it on CD now.

I remember the text with the album said it was instrumental because Kotke's voice sounded like "geese farts on a muggy day".

  • my mom knew Leo Kotke at St Cloud State in MN....my college too!

    good times for sure....

  • Ohnestly if you look at both of them it looks like leo is doc at age 50ish. They really look alike.

  • youtube converts audio to mono, might've somehow lost one of the channels in the conversion (and doc's take along with it)

  • I was just about to post the same thing that pdlsteeler said. I have the audio version of this and can hear Doc loud and clear.

  • If you download the regular audio version from somewhere you can hear both guitars equally it's great. It must be something with the video.

  • written by John Fahey

  • Leo makes up for not bein able to hear Doc.

  • hahahahahaha

  • Probably a recorded live broadcast with the occasional tech glitch? Nowadays they

record on Friday PM and broadcast an edited version Saturday PM.

  • the bass player looks like JOHN ENTWISTLE !

  • This video should be called "Leo Kottke plays, and Doc silently gets pissed off while the sound man sleeps off his hangover". Ffs.

  • @bigdjindustriez Makes you wonder what they were hearing in the monitors.

  • @bigdjindustriez And your comment should be called "my fifteen seconds of being paid attention to."

  • @dantean Doc took the time to go there and play, the least they could do is turn his guitar volume up, or on.

  • @bigdjindustriez FYI Doc Watson is blind

  • @zorbazig Yes I'm well aware of that, I'm a Doc fan. I was referring to the fact that the sound man doesn't have Doc's guitar turned on.

  • I've listened to PHC for many years; virtually from the start. The catalogue of musical guests and great performances in huge.

  • There is a clip of Leo, Doc and Chet playing this together backstage. You can hear everyone, including the laughter of delight.

Good ol' PHC for giving these great musicans an opportunity to be heard more widely.

  • @dingoswamphead I saw that once-- I can't find it anymore!! Do you have the link?

  • @aarossell I can't find it either 8^(

I have looked under their names and under LSET so far. Just shows you should favourite these things.

  • yhea that was garrison- shame that the prarie home companion folks didn't think to mike doc watson's guitar... little over sight there--- garrisons got a great laid back story about how doc came on the show: and then was never heard playing.... lake woebegone- a technological disaster.

  • was that the writer garrison kielor introducing them?? sounded like him.

  • Pity ya can't hear Doc Watson's guitar.

  • this piece is on one of the Best of Prairie Home Companion DVD's that you can get through Netflix. Also some Chet Atkins on them.

  • Thanks Gminor7. Good to know!

The Prairie Home Companion was what I was looking for.

    Tom

  • Wow, thats soo good.

  • Nice playing but can anybody tell from what show or broadcasting this comes from. I recognize the introducers voice from somewhere.

    Tom

  • The announcer is Garrison Keillor, so I'm sure this was a broadcast of Keillor's show The Prairie Home Companion.

  • Leo's way to loud compared to Doc
