The reason it seems dangerous is because the average American cannot multi-task as well as an average Chinese. Ask any Filipino to drive in China and he will do ok.
A very true representation of driving in China. Carriages and cars, buses, scooters, crowding in with some going in the wrong direction. Pedestrians walking in the street not on the sidewalk, they have no right-of-way, but don't yield to traffic either. In fact, nobody yields to anyone. I don't know how they do it!

I live in Taiwan and yeah, people seem to drive with the idea that an inch (or half an inch) is as good as a mile. Silly.
