  • This track is now available on the double CD BBC Radiophonic Workshop- a retrospective. I first had it on the Through a Glass Darkly LP and really liked this one, although I didn't like the other songs. This shows a gorgeous combination of sounds and textures in just one piece. I love the phasing combined with the strong bass before the fast bit!

  • i was given this album as a present when i was about 7 or 8, and i have fond and vivid memories of playing this track over and over and over again. for many years it was the best thing i'd ever heard. eventually acid house came along and i was finally able to move on

    way ahead of its time.....

    :-)

  • Hey, so now I'm twelve years old again! I had this in tape form 35 years ago but although I still have it, it has seriously deteriorated (has more pops than a well known breakfast cereal).

I used to play this LOUD in my room, thinking the whole world loved it. Errrrmmm...yeah.

  • Thanks for posting this. Wore out my vinyl copy years ago. This track single-handedly started my passion for electronic music. Brilliant to hear it again.

  • @dandooable Me too. Never been without a synth since I could afford to buy my first one (Roland JX3P).

  • I'm fairly sure it's music from an edition of the BBC's factual science series "Horizon" from the late 70s. The programme was about Erich Von Daniken and his ancient astronaut theory. Whatever, it's a great track.

  • @MondoTopless This is right, this 1977 song is on the double CD, BBC Radiophonic Workshop a Retrospective and it says this in listing. Other Howell tracks on this CD include Greenwich Chorus, Moving, Secret War and Lascaux. His Dr Who music is on The Earthschock and Five Doctors CDs. I like his Planet of Fire music best.

  • Was the astronauts a television, series r a film or what?.

  • Wow! THAT brings back memories!!! Haven't heard Peter Howell's The Astronauts in almost 25 years. Thank you SO MUCH for posting!!!
