@spencerj1000 trust me this song is 10,000x better than "luck of lucien" ... that whole album was panned when it came out b/c of how unintelligent it was
quest has really lost its magic for me... Qtip just stole all of their hit songs from other people... didnt change anything... where is the pride in that... then when he makes his own beats he comes out with "vivrant thing" mainstream bullshit song that portrays women as sex objects in a dull and uninteresting manner... id much rather listen to wutang or nas or gangstarr (different era of music, i know) fuck it even digable planets... fuck taking music and making it worse this is a golden song
マジでこの曲やばい!!!I loved the cover by YNQ, but the Billy Brooks original version has that thing that makes it sooo unique and groovy! Love the Tribe Called Quest track too tho'!! ^^/
Q-Tip explained in a past interview about his growing up listening to his father's jazz collections. This, along with their ear for talent, basically contributed to ATCQ's success of incorporation of hot samples and that jazzy feel in their musical production.
im the bass player on this cd with billy brooks orchestra i still have the cd it was fantastic to work with this great artist johnny tevreden bass player and patrick sedoc guitar player who also did a lot for him and we been touring all over holland
@denifer As a bass player I have to say much respect for your work and for still going strong. I'll be moving to London in a couple of days, hope to see you play there sometime.
its only on vinyl ain't that a bitch. unless you record your vinyl onto a cd then your cool. check out "Tribe Vibes" lots of good tracks on that to convert to CD. then please email them to me :)
Theres a website called kevinnottingham(dot) com which has loads of original breaks. I'm sure there's a ATCQ one which has most of the same listing as the one on the Tribe Vibes series.
Hey man, Your classification and characterization of jazz as a whole based on your experience of hearing players play "random shit" is not fair. What about straight ahead jazz, what about big band jazz, vocal jazz, dixie land etc. etc. there are a large number of "subsets" of jazz, Billy brooks being in the category of jazz-funk. To blast the rest of jazz as some intellectual hipster shit, does a great injustice to the music.
you can also begin to see evolutionary steps towards more soulful sounds with more attitude, its what began taking the first steps away from swing and bubbly big band jams, to good drum and basslines, and of course smooth jazzy accompaniment of horns, trumpets, sax etc
if anything jazz is comparable to the early graffiti train movement of the 70's wen big bolder letter styling becah to take form

denifer 2 years ago
Mr. Brooks played trumpet for Lionel Hampton, Count Basie & many others. A
high note specialist who could read anything. Passionate & serious about
music till the end; fun to be around with. In Holland Billy had a big band,
"The Rainbow Orchestra". There is a video of a TV broadcast featuring the
band and I think a CD. I played lead alto in the band for ~two
years. We played this tune. I believe this was recorded in Los Angeles. Tenor soloist?
