Would you believe that I was four years old when this show came out and after years of it being off the air, I still remember it? Well, I do! Oh, by the way, isn't Tisha Campbell cute?
i loved this show,we would act it out during play time at school, and iscuss it,i remember when it was interupted with the news about baby jesicca,i got the vhs copy, of the first ep but would love the dvd set and not a recrded one either!
i loved this,i remember when it went off and they stopped it for a breaking news update when baby jessica fell in a well,i have the 1st ep on vhs but wished it would come out on dvd!
If I were to have the choice of watching an episode of this show again, OR reading a chapter from "The Trumpetor Swan", this time I would choose correctly...
USNavyITWife -- you are correct. I am trying to watch it right now. Mom is a packrat, and has everything from when I was young...haha. I looked up the old VHS's to find movies for my kids to watch that I enjoyed..and I found it. Unfortunately, its terrible quality. And they will never be able to watch it..at least this copy!
in cameron missouri we did a musical version and the shows writer bernie kukoff came to cameron and watched us perform and he really liked it so there might be the possibility of them wanting to try and turn it into a broadway thing
@Tberger9 The same for me. None of my friends know about this show but it is by far my fav. childhood tv show. Do you know of any site I can rewatch the episodes?
This can be considered Fox's first attempt at a musical comedy-drama ala Glee. Alas, it didn't do quite as well. The 80's weren't so kind to musical tv shows back then.
@undeadnightorc I thought I saw this on the NBC network, not FOX in 1987-88 it was on saturday nights at 7pm but like all shows that had that time slot it was difficult to had seen all the episodes because they were usually pre-empted by local programming or sports or paid programs. I remember this but not saw enough episodes to remember specifics. It was this and 21 jumpstreet on sundays at the same time were my fave shows at 9-10 yrs old
@undeadnightorc That's because the original "Fame" series broke the mold. It's a hard show to top but didn't stop them from trying. Anyone remember the failed "Dirty Dancing" series? I swear there was a musical police show too, but that one didn't last either. The 80's was the last hoorah for musicals, they're now making a come-back:-)
So my school is performing this as a musical tomorrow in Cameron MIssouri. The writer Bernie Kuckoff is coming for it too to tell us how it was. We're the first school in the world to perform this musical. I'm so excited and nervous!
Didn't this come out after "Little Shop of Horrors?" Which was a fifties style movie. I think that's why they cast Tisha in it because she was one of the "backup" singers in "Little Shop of Horrors." I had forgotten about this show until I clicked on this. It's a shame what you forget when you are in your 30's. I always used to watch this.
I thought I remembered Tisha Campbell playing in Rags to Riches! I loved this show (and the 80's). This is good TV that you don't mind your children watching. Wholesome quality TV. "Have you ever carried moonbeams home in a jar....."
@Onetruecowgirl Yeah. It was called out of this world. It also had Steve Burton, that blonde hunk from General hospital. God I was like 8 or 9 and used to watch it Sunday mornings with my bowl of cereal LOL. Ah, the 80s. I miss them.

does anyone remember seeing the Series Finale.. because when the it aired in the states, baby jessica (baby that fell in well) was being rescued and the network changed to that instead. So I never seen the finale
Definitely remember this show, but didn't like it because it was a show for girls. My cousin, who is about the same age as I am use to watch it religiously though
I remember I used to watch this as a kid!! For some reason they played it every summer and I agree with some of the posts. Every crap I dont want to see is on DVD, why not this?
@veneika I agree with you> Ive been trying to find this entire series on DVD. I found 1 DVD but I cannot beleive the entire show is on 1 DVD right? Its on Ebay if its true.
I called everywhere, someone told me that NBC was the ones that release it,... wrote to them but apparently they no longer have the tapes. !SUCKS right!
Are ANY of these girls still in acting besides Tisha Campbell? I can't find any of them on Google Images. I wish I could see what they all looked like grown up.
I used to LOVE this show!! I remember I was watching this show when they interrupted regular programming to cover Baby Jessica in the well. I was kinda mad at the time but of course I know better now...LOL
Yeah, same thing happened with "Brand New Life". Both shows were so good, I can't believe they were cancelled so soon, especially considering that was a time when family friendly shows were very popular.
There are two things I remember about this show, which I watched all the time when it was on (1987 I think?). It involved sheep's milk or goat cheese in the cafeteria. Second, some girl said something about "sukiyaki", and the other one said, "sukiyaki meaning 'slob'!" and a group of girls doused the snob (maybe her girlfriend too) with something. Tell me I'm not imagining this-LOL! It had to have been from this show!
You got the right show! I was real young but I remember the brunette only ate goat cheese or drank sheep's milk, one of the two. I remeber I was HOOKED on this show but now I don't remember too much of it.
i have the complete series on dvd, downloaded from old vhs tapes. all the commercials are deleted and for a 21+ year old series, they are remarkably good. if anyone is interested in a set, please contact me for details.

I remember watching this show when 'baby Jessica' fell down the well. I was so mad that they kept breaking into the show for Jessica updates! Wow, was I young. :-)
I just had the same exact reaction -- I thought I was the only person who associated an obscure 80s TV show about orphans with Baby Jessica falling in the well!! I remember being very upset with all the breaking news interruptions too. There was some big musical number, maybe a finale? Thank you for validating me. :)
Yep, I remember watching this show and was disappointed when that news broke out and interruped my show, and that my Mom told me that a baby falling down a wall was serious. I was 11.
loved thi s show it was so good, dont make family sitcoms like this anymore , i loved the concept of them singing , my fave was tischa arnold who was in little shop of horrors wow noatalgia

I was 11.
