It's a story from a book written by a child psychiatrist during the 19th century. The other stories are like that too. Kids do something that you shouldn't do (terrorizing animals, rock your chair while eating, not eating your soup, laughing at black people) and have to deal with the consequences (get bitten by a dog, fall over and break everything, starve to death, St. Nicholas throwing you into black ink to make you even blacker than black people).
