  • Another great band of the 70's - my youth. 5 stars!

  • Excellent. I love it. Their voice are so beautiful. Thanks ...

  • he didn't sing the high parts

  • For the record Mickey ,you`re incorrect.

Alan Williams sang lead vocals, including the falsetto parts, here on `Tonight`, `Juke Box Jive` (one note higher than the highest note on Sugar Baby Love) and `I Can Do It`.

The band re-recorded all the tracks for Top Of Pops appearances as required by Musicans Union rules at that time.

The TOTP version of Sugar Baby Love is Alan Williams miming to is own voice

There are numerous in concert clips of the band performing live in concert on youtube.

  • so you're not familiar with Bob Edwards then? I didn't think so...

  • Hiya, I think you are right there but is it not the case that on the original record there was another bloke singing the falsetto part?

Just for the doubters by the way I saw the band last year and Alan Williams is hitting the entree to Sugar Baby Love..no problem..if he can do it now he sure as shit could do it back then..

  • No, it's not the case. Alan Williams sang all lead vocals on 'Tonight'.

You're thinking of 'Sugar Baby Love' which was sung by session singer Paul Prewer (stage name Da Vinci) before the band even existed.

Alan Williams indeed has a remarkable vocal range. He also sang the falsetto part on 'Juke Box Jive' which is actually 2 notes higher than the highest note in 'Sugar Baby Love'.

I've never heard anyone else hit it.

  • Thanks for the correction, I was referring to Sugar Baby Love. It seems impossible that the falsetto on 'Juke Box Jive' is 2 notes higher than that of 'Sugar Baby Love'..somehow my memory has told me there aint NOTHING can get higher than that! But I listened to it non stop as a child and it is kind of seared into my brain. I'll have to listen to both tracks again..Just watched the 'Never Too Young To Rock" clip, brill!..do you know if it is out on DVD? I bought a useless DVD from a fan club.

  • i always thought falsetto was sung by paul davinci check out your baby aint your baby anymore

  • Yes, that is correct. I was a huge Rubettes fan - not popular with many for their early suited & capped appearance. Alan Williams did indeed "do" the lead vocals on Tonight, Juke Box Jive, I Can do it, Fo Dee O Dee, Little Darling but, around this time, Tony Thorpe ably filled that roll - check out Baby I Know for a slice of country. Very polished. Still think Under One Roof is one of the best things they did

  • Excellent group and song.
