  • What is the name of this beautiful song??

  • Typical Mediterranean faces. You see these faces in the Balkans, Italy, Spain...

  • PALE SKIN and LIGHT HAIR were described as signs of BARBARISM by Polemon of Laodicea (GREEK man) in his book Physiognomica.

Pseudo-Aristotle noted differences between Greeks and the people of the north, believing that Greek superiority was visible in their MEDIUM SKIN TONE, as opposed to pale northerners and dark southerners (black Africans). He claimed that BLUE EYES were a SIGN OF COWARDLY NATURE, and that they indicated POOR EYESIGHT.

Greeks -> MEDIUM color, like people in the portraits

  • These are not the Romans, many of them freed slaves, or oriental. "The decadence of Rome has begun since I no longer see blond men" (Cornelius Tacitus)

  • @legiogeminax These are true Mediterranean Roman and Greek people. The Romans actually held BLOND Germanic people as SLAVES and cut their blond hair off and used them as wigs. Read history before commenting, please.

Go check out ancient frescoes I told others to see below, then you'll see the truth about true DARK complexioned Mediterranean peoples.

Dark peoples built ancient Mediterranean civilizations because this is their land, they're adapted to it, they tan, not BURN like blonds.

  • @Northax - You respond with a message. Honored to know someone who loves history.

  • @legiogeminax Many people don't know, but Greeks also did migrate to Egypt in ancient times. That's why there's the city of Alexandria in... EGYPT! ;)

  • @Northax I think the today Egyptians are just arabs, only exception the Christian Greeks minority who still remain in small numners in Alexandria... Not to forget... Lover of Julius Caesar, her name was Cleopatra, does anybody know her family tree? I got the suspicion that she was a grand grand child of Ptolemy, general of the amry of Alexander the Great. Is it tru or false?

  • @YiannisThiakos Yes, is true, Ptolemei was greeks rules since the Alexander the grat took the area

  • @Northax A long time ago, one people speaking the language and worshiped the Sun lying separated. To the south met the people dark "Pelasgians," mingled with them and soon decayed. The other, Spartans, Achaeans, Italians, Germans and Celts brought the cult of the sun across Europe. But the story is very long ... excuse my bad English.

  • @Northax have you seen all these north European collonists of Australia and South Africa? They seem 50 from the age of 35 becasue their skin is so stressed while spending their whole life in a sunny enviroment... Germans Dutch and English come to greece every summer, their skin does not get tained, gets become burnt and if they do it many times their skin develops dark spots especially on face and shoulders... :D

  • @Northax Not quite, the caucasian pre-Indo-European peoples are the natives of the Mediterranean and western Europe, but the Indo-Europeans migrated into Europe from the east. In modern Europe people have descended from one of both of these groups only. The pre-Indo-Europeans were primitive, the Indo-Europeans superior.

Although pre-Indo-Europeans were the majority, the IE were the rulers. So the rulers of ancient Greece and Rome, Germania etc. were IE, but the masses not.

  • @legiogeminax Go to Google Image search and type in : "Greek frescoes" , "Minoan people" , "Etruscan frescoes"

You'll see an abundance of dark complexioned people, they are true Mediterranean peoples and the originators of ancient civilizations like ancient Rome, ancient Greece, ancient Persia, etc.

Nordic liars seek to destroy or twist this history because this history DESTROYS their lies and propaganda about supposedly being superior to others. lol!

    Romans despised Germanic tribes!

  • @SouthEuropa like the Romans and Greeks used to say any one who has to dark and any one with to light of skin is a coward .

  • @Chansulus CORRECT! Read:

PALE SKIN and LIGHT HAIR were described as signs of BARBARISM by Polemon of Laodicea (ancient GREEK man) in his book Physiognomica.

  • @Chansulus

Though some Romans used to cut the light hair off of Germanic slaves and wore their hair as wigs.

  • The faces are beautiful, but most of them are encaustic portraits of Egyptians who had been Hellenized or Romanized according to their dress. It's not accurate to base ones idea of ethnic Romans of the time on these portraits alone.

  • @ThingsHidden Romans basically looked like them, actually. They were Romans who simply migrated to Egypt, if anything. Just like Europeans migrated to the land we now call "America" and live here. So what you say is like someone around 2000 years from now saying a portrait of George Washington is not of a European, but an American who was Europeanized. Which is quite silly. I think most people today just want to deny that Romans mainly looked darker of color than many ASSumed they looked.

  • @ThingsHidden There are many paintings of people living in Italy some 300-500 years before this who are dark complexion with black curly hair. The silly Nordicist racists who actually are stupid enough to believe that the light complexion Nordic type is what made all of civilization tries to hide these facts because it kills their pride and lies. In fact, the Germanic barbarians are the ones that invaded Rome and stole everything, then they claim it as their own. This has gone one for years.

  • @Northax Actually the Germanic tribes were INVITED into the empire to help defend against the eastern invaders (Huns, Seleucids) because they had served Rome well in the past. This invading bullshit is like a fucking epidemic. Every credible historical account affirms that they were invited. Then they just stayed, assimilated and donated their DNA to the local women.

  • @ThingsHidden You can also look up ancient Greek frescos and see they are of quite similar complexion to the people shown in this video here. Dark hair, dark eyes, etc.

Go to Google Image and type: Ancient Greek Painting Pitsa

    That's just one example.

  • Some of these are Egyptian, Roman, Greek.

  • A lot of the portraits shown here are amazing from an artistic point of view..not until the very late middle ages and the Renaissance you would see again such level of proficiency in painting

  • @andres6868

I have a question for you, if you please could answer it for me: The ancient Greeks and Romans did not have the perspective techniques invented in the Renaissance. So, how close the pictures of this video are in quality and real-portraying to Rembrandt´s ?? For my untrained eye, the pictures look almost photographic except for some distortion in proportion, too big eyes and ears for the face dimensions, or sth like that.

  • @powerdriller10 Like you say, the only thing they lack in comparison to fully bloomed portrait painting in the western tradition is a sense of perspective. You can see every other technique (see for example the shadowing, use of light, use of different tonalities in color in the painting)

  • Great Post. Well Done!

  • Beautiful people,as they painted themselves. Not one negro on here,as they werent any around-they do not have one surviving ancient painting .

  • @MrTickleSprout0 And not one blonde and blue-eyed guy either.

  • we never been monkeys

God created our father from his hand :)

there is no difference among races and nations , we all from one father and one mother :)

    PEACE MY FRIENDS :)

  • @owzown

I'd believe you but science has more proof. :(

  • Mediterranean Latin :)

    very nice.!

  • The first 3 faces (woman with 2 children) are believed to be Galla Placidia, and the young Valentinian and his sister). The sedond image is of a Pompeian couple. At 1:17 we can see a roman fresco depicting the Emperor Septimius Severus, empress Julia and the young Caracalla. The face of Geta, Caracalla's brother was erased when his brother and murderer became emperor). Most of the pictures are the Fayoum mommies, whe Egypt was a roman province. They show the diversity of the Empire.

  • These are Arabs, they are not the ancient Egyptians. Fayoum portraits are dated between 1A.D and 3A.D. they are not natives to Egypt.

  • @Qayyin these are ROMANS, not arabic scums

  • I believe that I recognized my old great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother of 2000 years ago.

  • I challenge you people to go and take a look at roman statues, ALL dinaric/alpine. These people depicted here might be egyptians or something, they have no single mediterranean feature (go search for yourself the mediterranean subrace on internet especially the works of Carleton Coon) such huge differences if the dinaric/alpine/mediterranean italians and swarthy ones existed it would have been noted down. Search "The Race Change in Ancient Italy", it provides some clues.

  • @RockOnHellas Probably this discussion was irrelevant when they lived. Recently, the bones of a roman auxiliary trooper was discovered in Britain and scientists believe he was an african (black) man. And, last yr, bones of a doubtless far eastern asian who lived in italy at I AD was also discovered. The whole roman literature did shows evidence of xenophobia and class prejudice, but if you have born free and had been granted citizenship they dont care about the colour of your skin.

  • @SouthEuropa I agree. lol

  • Are all of these faces Romans and some Arab too, from time Roman Empires? I think. Well I cannot see nobody from mummies or elsewhere from the big World! Where are the red hair, blond hair, blue eyes clear people with white or black skin? The barbarian hordes and slavic horde people = italians exile created by ancient Romans, sorry. Thanks. Love. Peace!

  • Ummm, ancient Sicilians?

  • They look so young ! I wonder if this was the age they were when they died ? The music is just right , wonder what it is ?

  • The boy at 2.40 is called ΕΥΤΥΧΗΣ(Eutyches) and was probably a child of Greek settlers in Egypt. His name means good lucked.

  • This is so sublimely beautiful an yet haunting. We are looking into the eyes of people just like ourselves two millenia ago. Let us not forget these individuals also had loves, fears, passions, dreams, and disappointments just like us. A wonderful illustration of human dignity and grace.

  • "...the Mediterranean race has actually more achievement to its credit than any other, since it is responsible for by far the greater part of Mediterranean civilization, certainly before 1000 B.C. (and probably much later), and so shaped not only the Aegaean cultures, but those of Western as well as the greater part of Eastern Mediterranean lands, while the culture of their near relatives, the Hamitic pre-dynastic Egyptians, formed the basis of that of Egypt."

    C. G. Seligman

  • The details of their eyes, clothing, and facial expressions are fascinating.

  • I've seen one of these once, of a rich beautiful Roman woman, at the Walters Art Gallery "Eternal Egypt' exhibit.

  • The portraits inspired the looks for the actors in Alejandro Amenabar's movie "Agora"

  • Love the music plus the portraits!

  • @SouthEuropa Is that to say there were no "Northern" type blonde Romans though? No. They were mostly Med/Alpine type with some Nordics. Given the Latin peoples are thought to have been closely linked to the Continental Celts though, a rather "Northern" people, its not supprising IMO. The differences of today are more pronounced than they would have been in the past - the ancient Slave trade had an impact (as will mass immigration), population movements.. Basically, the Romans were White.

  • @andy

Some romans (those originating from norten Italy) had more "nordic" because celtic origin but generally Romans described themselves as Mediterranean, dark eyes, dark hair...Roman Historians described barbarians from north Europe as blond whit blue eyes to emphatize their difference...this is a proven fact you can't change

On the contrary, no Roman writer stresses the diferences between Romans and Syrians for example, probably because they were more similar, not identical! But similar...

  • @diegriva Agreed entirely with what you wrote here. But white supremacists want to say Romans had light features, when really it is the other way around. These racists sadly want to claim Rome because it goes along with their theory of "genetic superiority" over the "darker races". It blinds them so much, they have to go into denial. Very sad. I believe there were some light colored people in Rome at the time, but I think they came from Germanic lands years prior as immigrants, not natural Meds.

  • @andy7666 Some light Romans were simply immigrants who traveled south and then became "naturalized" Romans, but they were obviously the tiny minority. The original Romans and Greeks were all dark colored and swarthy with olive skin tones. Today is different mainly because of the Germanic/Nordic invasions that happened around the time Rome fell. Go read history!

  • @Northax The darker skin tone is mainly due to exposure to the sun, it's not the colour that we are naturally born with. We can turn back pale again in no time, we were born fair and we are so always except summer. Notice how northern people such as germans and english become much more dark during summer than the general population of greece and italy. Ancient romans belonged to a dinaric/alpine stabilized blend mostly, fully in the europid spectrum. So are almost half of today's greeks.

  • @Northax The mediterannean race is a major factor in both countries. The mediterranean race is characterized by brown hair/eyes and white skin, the features are fully europid and have no similarities to eastern races. There has been a confusion over time because people are not aware of the distinction between the mediterranean sub-race and the swarthies that are geographically med.

  • Mostly Romano-Egyptian people.. Essentially, Egyptians of the time. Most of these images were from "modern" (at least back then) mummies of the Roman era.

  • What song is this wonderful?

    What song is this?

  • these people is Copts

i'm proud to be coptic the grandson of the Pharaohs

  • Splendid video....

  • According to wikipedia the dental morphology of the mummies indicates predominantly indigenous Egyptian genetic structure. These paintings depict the pharaonic Egyptian's as they would have appeared during the reign of Ramses II. Nubian and Sea people's immigration is another matter.

  • This is sublime and inspiring! Thank you for creating this beautiful video.

  • The majority of Romans had mediterraneean features we know this, but Romans were never a "pure" race.

Beginning Rome was composed by three different tribes: Latins Sabins and Etruscans, after they unified Italy all italic peoples became Roman (Celtics Samnits Geeks etc). In southern Italy people had much more mediterranean but in the Po Valley they are a little more "nordic" because Celtic origin.

Then the People remebmered as the greatest conqueror and ruler in History was...a mixed race!!!

  • they look similar to me esp the eyes,im mixed race/

  • Wow you people are scary man, of course they look mediterrenean you fools, what did you expect them to look like bloody chinese! all this redneck propaganda has twisted your brains you're probably the same freaks who say that the ancient hindus and ancient egyptians had blonde hair and blue eyes.

  • They also resemble spaniard!

  • i'd like to see Ancient Rome and Greece by myself without any reconstructions and stuff. It was a good time.... bad time..... just like today)

  • Most of these portraits are in the period of when Ancient Rome was in decline due to miscegenation and most of these people are mixed race not like the original builders and creators for ancient Rome who were clearly a Nordic racial type. If you don't believe me just Google image Octavian Augustus which was Julius Caesars heir the first TRUE emperor of ROME. From this time on the population of Rome became a melting pot just like America is today and eventually fell to a decline in genetic stock.

  • @TheMartin4006

Ancient roman writers described barbarians of north europe as blond whit blue eyes and very white skin...they are very surprised by barbarian appearance because romans were very different....Ancient Romans were looking predominantly Mediterranean, shorts, dark hair and dark eyes.

Blonde existed bu they were a little minority.

  • @diegriva Naturally someone from southern Italy who is dark skinned, short with dark eyes and hair would say that but its just not reflective of reality I'm afraid. Modern day southern Italians are just like like the modern day Egyptians, a completely alien race living amongst the ruins of a great ancient race they have NOTHING in common with.

  • @TheMartin4006

I'm not from southern Italy, but If you want to know the features of ancient Romans from southern Italy, you must look at the portraits of Pompeii. They are portraits of Roman citizens made before AD 69 during the best period of the Roman Empire (decline began three centuries later):

They are all dark and mediterraneans. We can't to change this fact

  • ,,are you speaking about the Sicilians ?

  • @PupuTheClown Yes but also some southern Italians. They look more Arab than white.

  • ,,probaby are arab and not Italian, some Italians have a dark Italian look like Sylvester Stallone or Tony Danza, Al Pacino and many of those paintings came from ancient Byzantine, Crete, Cyprus, Lebanon, Turkey.

  • @TheMartin4006

Arabs lived in the Arabian peninsula.

The peoples of north Africa and Middle East who today we call "Arabs" are the same people who were part of the Hellenistic and Roman civilisation in ancient times before the Muslim (arab) conquest ( in seventh century).

Muslim warriors were a small minority but they imposed their culture....and today we call "Arabs" peoples who were once called "Greeks"!...

  • @TheMartin4006 Wow, you truly are clueless. lol! You're a racist in denial. ;)

  • @Northax Racist in denial? No. I am a racist :)

  • @TheMartin4006 Forgive me if I'm wrong but did Virgil not describe julius caesar as having black eyes, now call me stupid but i dont really associate that with nordic types, mate i think you've been out in the australian sun too long with you're pasty complection, and if you must know those pictures are from pompei long before julis caesar and augustus, sadly reality is at odds with you're twisted hatred of anyone who doesn't get a sunburn after 5 minutes in the sun. just enjoy life mate no hate

  • @TheMartin4006 you are so fucking stupid and jelous of the mediterrenean race. While the mediterreneans were building civilization your ancestors were living like dirty stupid minded cavemen. Go fuck yourself you fucking ignorant.

  • well, the thing about this portraits is that they aren't from the Roman era, they are from the Byzantine era, so they are depicting Eastern Mediterranean people(Turks, Greeks, Semites).

this art resembles a lot the art of the Orthodox Churches.

  • @luciferiexcelsil Many of those portraits are from Pompei, Italy, Roman times.

  • @luciferiexcelsil Actually, these all date from the days when the Western Roman Empire was still strong, though unlike what Octavivs says, most of these are actually from Roman Egypt, which would explain the relatively swarthy appearance of many of the subjects.

You have it backwards; the Orthodox painting style was based off traditional Greco-Roman art. :)

  • @umbrellashotgunman Romans in the land now called "Italy" were also swarthy in appearance. So were Greeks and all other Mediterraneans. Go look up the Greek art I told the other to look at, google it, then come back and comment please. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @Northax And I don't dispute that one bit. Just wanted to clarify that a lot of the figures shown are probably assimilated Egyptians as well as people of Greek or Roman descent.

  • And the stupid americans with their nordicist/afrocentric agenda still use blond anglo-saxons romans/greeks and black slaves to act in movies about Rome and Greece....

  • @Octavivs These are a group of Romano-Egyptians - Romao/Greek/Semetic/Negro mix people - of course they aren't going to look like light haired Europeans! Lol! XD Had they been early Egyptian you may have seen a few red heads, but the fact these people are dark and wooly haired is no great shock..

  • @andy7666 You're another brainwashed person. Sorry, but ancient Greeks also did look just like the people in these portraits. Go type this in Google search engine: "Ancient Greek Art Sacrifice" and you will see people with dark hair, and even light brown skin. Ancient Greeks did not have natural light features, that is what white supremacists would like everyone to think though, because these racists want to claim all ancient civilizations as their own. Study history, then come comment please.

  • Damn they look Asian

  • @darkingwing No, they just look mediterranean like they always been, not anglo-saxon like you are used to see in american stupid movies and series.

  • This is beautiful...amazing...humbling. These are our ancestors, people who came before us from so long ago, building day by day, year by year what we have and know today!

  • Some of them are Greek (Pompeii), some are Greco-Egyptian (Fay-um).

  • The people that faiyoum portraits present are from several ethnicities living in Egypt at that time. Many of them are Greeks and other are Egyptians and from people of the Middle East.

  • It's amazing to see such naturalistic portraits from such a distant era!

  • 00:49 with the guy who holds a dildo is so funny?

  • Many of them are portraits of Fayoum, I have a book that shows them.

  • It's totally Greek art.

  • The truth is that most of these people are Greeks of Egypt. Greeks conquered and governed Egypt for centuries. They built a lot of cities-colonies like Alexandria, Arsinoe (Fayum) and many others.

Some other faces are also Greek paintings in Italy (Pompeii). For example:0:11-0:19 Alkaios and Sappho (the great Greek poets)

  • yes most face are greek (Fayum) and others are italians (Ravenna).

Pompei not was a greek city like Naples or Taranto, she was an italic (samnitic) city but all south of Italy was very influenced by Greek culture that is true.

    I love Greece:)

  • Yes my friend, but i meant that the painters were Greeks (even in Pompeii). In Roman period a lot of Greek artists, architects, painters, sculptors etc. made public works for Roman Empire.

  • Greek cities were found many kilometres northern of Rome. For example "Pisa" by Pissates (from pelopponesean area Pissa near Olympia). 500 ancient Greek cities existed from Gela & Syracusai to Pisa. I am archaeologist.

  • Grandioso video.....una joya històrica

  • This is like looking at photos of ancient people. It's amazing. Beautful faces.

  • Only a couple of these look straight up Mediterranean... the others look egyptian... But the ones that are Mediterranean are right on the button!!... :)

  • Roma Aeterna.

  • The Mediterranean Race is Olive skinned and unique in it's Racial characteristics... Dark Hair was a basic of our Race.. and still is... Egyptians were conquered like everyone else was.. by the greatness of the Mediterranean Greco/Roman world... I don't think this people look "egyptian" they look like the basic Mediterranean groups of the area... The Aryans (Iranians) also looked (look) like this... They were not negroid or anglo/germanic at all... We are unique and we are a Race... Ciao!... :)

  • @moigranespiritu Correct!

  • @moigranespiritu The mediterranean race is pretty much fragmented. There's a huge difference between (let's take famous people) libyan president Kadhafi and italian soccer player Cannavaro.

  • @fdesouchecom don't be rediculous please?.... fabio cannvaro is a youth.. and Kadhafi is a very old man... your point is truly pathetic.. grow up.

  • people from Pompeii were Romans(talics) from Egypt mainly Greeks coz Alexandria was greek city.

  • @MAXIMILIANVS Agreed. It seems these racists saying these people are Egyptian, not Roman or Greek do not know their history. lol!

  • amazing i like the background music what it name ?

  • LOL you again? I remember you.

But in this case you are right about what you see in the pictures. : )

  • So most of these people are in fact Egyptians during that time. Don't mix up Romans with Egyptians.

  • @fdesouchecom They're Greek and Roman people that moved to Egypt, no different than seeing a portrait of George Washington and saying he was a European who moved to America; technically he is American by nationality, but by genetic background of European ancestry. Do you not believe Romans looked like these people? They did. Many people do not know or believe this because of white supremacy that says Romans or Greeks were "whiter" looking, when they were not.

  • what a beautiful video, it gave me shivers.. sublime feeling.

Have you ever been to Pompeii? It's a mysterious place.. all the colours there are still as bright as almost two thousand years ago and it's scary in a way to enter their houses because you feel somehow you cross a border. A vivid place :) difficult to describe.

    Thank you for this video.

  • @SarahNDittmann Yes, isn't it amazing. I love the ancient Roman penchant for realistic portraits & sculpture, depicting people warts & all. They come alive every time you look at a fresco or a sculpture.
