  • Sir, you have made an error. That's NOT for 2 portions. Only for my portion!

My friend may dine on peas, curry sauce, pickled onions and eggs.

  • @nameofthepen Ha ha.. I will make more next time :)

  • Another excellent video, great recipe.

  • @gusmiko3020 thank you..glad you liked it :)

  • @TylenolTyler420 You sure can..thanks for watching

    Steve:)

  • When I was in Australia I often got battered fish made from Spanish mackerel. That was really good.

  • @alruin4531 That does does sound good...where in Australia ?

  • @stevescooking In North Queensland, especially around Cairns. Those mackerels are huge, I've seen them while scuba diving:)

  • When you removed the fish from the pan i needed a moment with myself lol

  • I'm Going to use that Batter Steve Your Videos are Awesome.

  • @mrspike007able Thanks buddy glad you like them :)

  • Salt and vinegar, best fish and chips combo ever. I'm down with mushy peas but I usually leave it out just because the fish and chips is alredy too much.

    Great example mate.

  • @Cenotaff Yeah.. when I used to get F&C with mushy peas i would hardly eat them...thanks mate :)

  • are there many fish and chip takeaways in america? Or are most of them restaurants?

  • @niallmw1 There are a few up north (New York Etc) but certainly not down in the south where I live. Commonly F&C are served in restaurants.

  • Hi Steve, Have you found a good place in Atlanta to get fish & chips?

  • @whatehvah2U2 I did go to a restaurant called Buckhead diner in (Buckhead, Atlanta) fantastic fish & chips... but unfortunately the diner has a new chef now..so I dont know how good they're.

  • @FinnishUnicorn No problem..I understand what your saying..its really down to personal choice...Thanks for your feedback :)

    Steve

  • LE fish and chips!

    Super vidéo !!!

  • @billkwack thank you ;)

  • Outstanding!! When you took a bite of the fish, and it crunched...my mouth watered...Great job :)

  • @ammohead73 thanks buddy :)

  • Aussies love their fish and chips. I tips me lid to you for your recipe and technique.

I don't know what our equivalent of cod is here. Our main fish for F&C is "flake", which is shark.

  • @hellonewman1 Thank you..I appreciate it

  • To wade in on the Beer issue, its a big con - proliferated by TV chefs, don't be fooled. Chipshops use a pre-mix from the cash-and-Carry, the only "secret" in terms of ingredients is that it has Costco written on the label. Batter is flavoured by the fat, not the food or the beer.

    No Yeast either.

Ps, try it with a Shortening (veg or animal), rather than vegetable oil, its a clincher.

  • @kuehneniggle Thanks for your comment..done it all..tried it all and I prefer the yeast....cheers..been making fish and chips for years..and the yeast works great..thanks

  • @stevescooking Lightening fast reply! My video on the Fish and Chips theme is probably to the right, about half way down - have a watch!

  • Luv fish and chips.. in my town we have a place called H-salt Fish & chips.. and it is simply delish & the vinegar is Yumo.. thanks for your video

  • @Barginjunkie69 Your very welcome...best food in the world..I appreciate you watching.

    Steve

  • There is absolutely no substitute for the beer. The carbonation makes the batter fluffy with lots of bubbles, and gives an essential flavour. However, all the alcohol will evaporate in the hot oil.

  • best thing to come out of Britain, is there any substitute for the beer?

  • Hey Steve any ideas for replacing the Beers with something no alcoholic? Please give me Brand name CHEERS!

  • @sahirdonsocomeon Hey...you can use alcohol free beers...still gives that beer batter taste but without the alcohol. Or if you don't want to use that...use soda water. I haven't lived in the U.K for over 5 years..so for brand names I'm a little rough (Tesco alcohol free beers are good) I hope this helps, cheers mate.

  • @stevescooking Thanks for that I am Muslim so no Alcohol for me :) . But yeah I love Fish and Chips and Thanks for sharing your tips!.

Does the alcohol contribute to the flavour also?

    Cheers m8

  • @sahirdonsocomeon Does the alcohol contribute to the flavour also?.....It certainly does, The beer makes the batter lighter..also it adds a distinctive flavor to the cooked fish. :)

  • @stevescooking alcohol by itself doesn't contribute with flavor, but it has a lower evaporation temperature than water. that means a batter that dries, cooks and crisps faster and better, and won't overcook the fish.

  • @dnakirimoto Hi..What you have said is right to a certain degree...but I respectfully disagree it doesn't add flavor. Adding beer to a batter creates body and lightness..also colors the batter and flavor.

  • a lot better looking than what we used to have to serve at brasstown... that frozen pre breaded stuff just didnt cut it

  • @keithharden oh yes...you are absolutely right...It wasn't fish & chips.
