  • Freaking modda fuckin awesome!

  • HELP KEEP BILLY PRESTON ALIVE AND CHECK OUT HIS MUSIC ON ITUNES!!

  • R.I.P. Mr. Preston. You are brilliant. People, if you love Billy, please watch "I was made to love her" It was one of his last live performances before he passed, and I think it was one of the best live performances of all time. Miss ya Billy.

  • I love this song...love Sam Cooke AND I love this version!

  • best version of this song

  • In all do respect to the above comments it is not fair to compare anyone to the great Sam Cooke. Simply said the man was in a class all by himself. Most singers who do remakes do so out of love and respect for the original artist and not for the purpose of "one upping them". Furthermore, though it is okay to compare let us also keep in mind that these artists are usu paying tribute to someone they admire. This is esp true of Al Grn,Rod Stwd and Preston all of whom deeply admired Sam.

  • Nice cover...But nobody can beat Sam Cooke...Just saying.

  • I've been told I'm as white as they come. Having disclosed that important piece of information I gotta say no one can do this one with the feeling Sam Cooke did. He didn't try to make it more than his voice conveying his words. Even the overdone post production w/ the orchestral backing didn't take that away. Bottom line, when he recorded his vocals, that's all he cared about; it shows in the sound and that's what makes it truly soulful to me.

  • @timbrebender Totally agree with you!

  • cool...go check out the coahoma choir men singing it on my page an leave a comment...thanks

  • raw

  • yes a change is gonna come

  • It's fair to say Billy Preston fells this song.

  • Hey Billy, hope you're playing music in somewhere....you are my hero, love ya!

  • When I think of artists doing a remake of songs such as these I think it should compliment them; such as David Ruffin doing a brook Benton song ( Rainy Night In Georgia ) Some songs shouldn't be touched unless you can enhance it. A typical disaster would be Rod Stewart doing " We're Having A Party " by Sam Cooke; I like Rod, but he should have left that one alone. I must say the same for Billy Preston. It is clear that this song is too much for him vocally, and he just couldn't do it justice.

  • Nice phrasing of lyrics - he makes it mean something. I'm listening to many, many artists version of this Cooke classic, but it really takes something that not all of them have to sing this with conviction and panache. Billy gets the job done! Thanks for the post.

  • STFU ABOUT THE MAN'S MISTAKES AND ENJOY THE MUSIC IF U DIDNT PERSONALLY KNOW THE MAN IT DOES NOT EFFECT YOU IN ANYWAY P.S. THIS IS A WONDERFUL VERSION R.I.P BILLY

  • Seattle Band Child did a far better version of this song. Like many famous "Blacks" Preston managed to get in trouble with the law.

  • @MrBEB123 Why the need to point out that "Like many famous 'Blacks'" he managed to get in trouble with the law? Many performers do so shut up!!

  • @MrBEB123 yes, unlike famous Whites such as Lindsay Lohan, Hugh Grant, Nick Nolte, Paris Hilton, Mel Gibson, Ryan O’Neal ,Vince Neal of Motley Crew, Chace Crawford, Lief Garrett, Jaime Pressly or Charlie Sheen to name a few. In the words of Charles F. Kettering "You can be sincere and still be stupid."

  • Easy to see that the lyrics on this song really means something to him and to everybody who suffers. There's almost nothing nowadays compared to great songs like this one.

  • My favorite version!

  • I LOVE Billy Preston's rendition of A Change Is Gonna Come! Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • Soul + Talent = Billy Preston.

Great version of this classic done to perfection.

  • rip billy..

  • THIS MAN WAS A BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING!

  • AMAZING!!!

  • Billy Preston proves without a doubt on this live version of "Change is Gonna Come" that he was one of popular music's greatest "soul powers".

I officially induct him into the "Soul Music Hall of Fame".

Thank you Billy for the joys you bring.

  • You said something I felt was very important re the one drop rule. I am biracial. I look BLACK...I consider myself black. This is the way people have treated me all of my life...especially in America. This one drop rule is the rule...was the rule then. Ie....this is the yardstick society especially whites used to measure people of that ilk...like myself. It seems people use the 'mixed-card' only in his presidency. If he was a rapist or a burglar...he would be a black man. Just my opinion

  • Some how I feel you misunderstood EVERYTHING I was saying. I urge you to re-read my earlier post. What does my having a job or not [which I do while attending Uni. I might add] have to do with this conversation?

  • One word: Natural

  • The only way change is going to come is when we change our negative , closed minded attitudes about race and get rid of racism !

  • Things are changing. Take a look at some film of Little Rock in the 50's. The ones with the police dogs and the kkk in cop uniforms. The changes we see today are a direct result of the Watts and Detroit "riots" of the 60's. Include Eldrige and the Honorable Huey P. Newton and you will see the roots of today. It's a shame Obama is a new world order phoney but his election is, nonetheless, monumental. If you want change you have to get your ass out into the street.

  • A true star in every sense of the word. God Bless Billy

  • great singer - great pianist - billy was class!

  • I cant stop being teary eyed! I love you so much uncle Billy! I feel like you are Always around me. Sometimes when I feel down, your songs pop up from nowhere and you play a cheerful song just for me! Im sorry that I didnt make the most of the time I had to spend with you. I used to love to watch you reherse when I was little, you lived in Tapanga Canyon and a few years agowhen you lived in Ladera Heights! A change HAS come uncle, a Black President! Wish you were here to see! Rock on!

  • Billy Preston was an under-recognised talent, everything he did seemed to have a sense of uplifting joy to it, I'm sure he's looking down smiling about your message.

  • Amen to that Brother. I saw him twice.

    I can't believe he's gone.

    He is the 5th Beatle.

  • rip billy

  • ..and the change HAS come!

  • Thank God for Billy and his talent. He could do it all. RIP.

  • damn billy is a beast
