Exactly, how does a nose become boring ?? Also, in his book, Keith said Mick Taylor never gave a reason for leaving. He did say M.T. didn't really fit it with the other members, he was always "a bit morose."
The Stones sound revolves around Keith's rhythms. Mick Taylor was a nice addition, but in no way did he make the band. Notice, the Stones emergence from psychedelic 67, was a year before M.T. was hired. JJFlash, Sympathy for the Devil, Gimme Shelter, Street Fighting man, all of Beggars and Most of Let it bleed, all done without M.T. Great guitarist but Keith's rhythms and riffs is what makes the Stones guitar sound. Those are the facts!
@harp1925 I mostly agree with you on that one. Taylor unquestionably did a lot of nice work on the songs, good slide guitarist too... but I think of it as embellishment and enhancement to Richards' inventive hooks & rhythms.
You have to hand it to these gentlemen, 'cause they really did something for rock and roll. The rhythmic sense and sense of energy, of syncopation, of driving sound is in my eyes their gift to rock & roll and we should use that gift for the music of the present.
Mick Taylor left because he didn''t get the writing credits for songs he was promised. Time waits for no one is the obvious example. Mick said yes, Keith said no. Very sad.
Saw Mick play and sing with his blues band last year - very good. If the Stones are thinking of replacing Ronnie, because he is so unreliable, then getting Mick T back would be brilliant. Would Keith allow it though?
Actually Mick Taylor wasn't in this "rock'n'roll" attitude thing, he just wanted to play the guitar and be a guitar hero, which has never been the style of the stones
@goonchistaw May be a typo or a colloquial expression but Soundshunter was correct.Taylor's sinus/nose were in a shambles from the groups bottomless runs of Peruvian marching powder.A symptom of chronic abuse snorting can cause wasting of the nostril walls ( as in bore a hole through) Re: professional jealousy ?-always a factor .
@goonchistaw-----boring as in the coke was boring a hole through his nose with all the abuse. I don't think the band's been the same since Mick left...but they're still my No. 2!!!!
Everyone ,allways says about what a great lead guitarist was Mick Taylor -and he sure was- but noone have ever noticed that he couldnt play equal good on rythm guitar, i mean with tension and nerve like Keith ...............Whats done is done . The Stones were great before and after Taylor and the guys still plays good . I prefer the duet Keith-ronnie but the years were past and they never had the influense to do new songs like those of the Taylor era
Does anyone know what song they wrapped up the concert with? I'm curious what followed that fantastic performance of Honky Tonk Women? Maybe "You Can't Always Get What You Want?" That would have been a nice closer.
Anyway, Mick almost tells us what song they're about to go into, but the clip ends.
Yeah if you look at Mick Taylor's nose, it is really boring, what the hell was he thinking? He should have have had a more interesting nose. Don't you think/
Mick Taylor left the Stones for 2 reasons: He would die because of drugs. His nose was almost boring when he left. The other reason is that keith was jealous of him for being so good with the guitar and keith created a tense atmosphere because of this. A loss to the rock. Maybe he will start playing with them soon.
Incorrect. Drugs were a big issue, as he was trying to keep up w/ Keith w/ the partying. Yet the "jealousy" thing is bullshit. Keith's always been candid about being in awe over Taylor's ability as a soloist. In a recent interview, Keith spoke of Taylor's virtuosity, saying the '69-73 years were Keith's favorite as a live band & that if he had HIS way, Taylor'd still be in the band. Taylor left because of musical boredom & Mick & Keith's refusal to give him song-writing credits.
@FenderJaguarMan12 I agree, Keith probably wasn't jealous. But do you really think that Mick Taylors guitar playing is "repetitive noodling"? It's called improvising, and he's a fantastic soloist.
@Atrvexo He's a very skilled guitarist. But his improvisations sound basically like Clapton circa Cream minus the feedback and bits of wah that made those solos interesting. He's a great guitarist and works well with Keith but I'm just saying that Keith is a far more innovative and creative guitarist who took blues influenced playing in an interesting direction. Mick was jealous of Keith if anything....
@FenderJaguarMan12 I don't understand why you have to compare them? I also love Keith, he's obviously a fantastic songwriter and a great rhythm guitarist! Of course you are allowed to think that Taylor is a bad copy of Clapton, even if I think that's crazy and disrespectful. Listen to Brussels Affair (you can find it on youtube) if you haven't done that, I don't think you have listened to him properly.
@Atrvexo Actually I don't know why I'm comparing them really I would say always that Keith is more original but the era with Mick Taylor is probably my favourite era of the Rolling Stones so he obviously did bring something. Still it was mainly my annoyance at the comment saying Keith was jealous of Mick Taylor that spurred those comments lol.
@FenderJaguarMan12 Ok now I understand! The era with Taylor is also my favourite, I don't think anyone was jealous of anyone really, they were all great. To me Taylor is one of the greatest (if not the greatest) British guitarist of all time. But that's just me :) Taylors vibrato is very unique, and to me he has a unique style of playing that is very fluid and melodic. In this video I think he overplays a bit, but this was 1969 and he had just joined the group.
In his book, Keith just says MT was a very shy, very morose guy who didn't quite fit in with the group. But I wonder if Keith was a very intimidating presence and he doesn't even realize it.
@soundshunter I think he also claimed that he had more song writing credits than he got, which was the cause of some heavy tension. Can't remember which songs at the moment.
