  • Yay, Axtran is back! Well, sort of... :)

Could you please tell me what ratios were used in the ANNMNC and ANNMNCAl charges? It looks like a very interesting and practical composition.

  • @HDRCX550VE Well of all the vids they are a couple of the oldest. I really can't remember the ratio. I do remember without Al it is very insensitive and hard to detonate though, with Al the ratio becomes of less importance as sensitivity throughout increases. Since the fuel and binder (NC/NM) are powerful explosive in their own right, consistancy is more important then OB worries.

  • Looks like a brisant explosive. Can you give some data about it?

  • @XBiteABulletX Read previous reply just given, but to add some info the detonation of smokeless powder has little to do with the often mentioned "double base" (although I believe WIN231 is) faster burning single based powders take detonation easier then slower double based powders (thus containing nitroglycerine has little to do with it).

  • Extremely powerful stuff! What is it?

  • @gogo311 Its Winchester "WIN231" smokeless powder being initiated with a #8 commercial detonator. In general the faster the burn rate of a powder (finer grain, less burn inhibitors) the easier it takes to detonation. Win231 is quite a fast one. Theres a previous uploaded vid where I tested the other powders I have sitting around. All these movies are at least 5 years old or more (vid cameras had tapes when this was recorded :P), just found some still sitting in computer.
