There seems to be some sort of oil lake underneath or around Tonga. This is good news for the Gracious Royal Family and the loving people. It has been said that through numerous studies there could be a high amount of oil under the Islands of Tonga. Our people will never see a day with no food or little provisions on the shelf. Tonga will be among the elite countries in this world and the Royal Family will take it's rightful place among it's leaders. God Bless the King!
The Tongan people do well for themselves. They are a hardworking people who have a strong belief in God and Family. The King of Tonga also supports this. He even admits to reporters that there will be a time for Democracy. The current democratic movement is a joke. Their leaders are nothing more than baron crooks who think that they can run a country. Those trolls see the great lifestyle of many Americans, thus wanting to copy it. Failure will ensue. The Royal Family is too powerful.

I know right.. koe kau sotia tonga koe kaka lahi atu... their FUCKED up! They dont love their own people.. Angai manu tama! The Police is with the FUCKEN GOVERNMENT they dont really give a shiet sometimes! When I was in tonga and the Schools would fight they were mostly on ateles side they dont give a shiet!
It's kinda funny how Some palangis were talkin shit bout tongas riots and now look at amercia..-they in a recession.dumass pres.Bush..shiiieett..matausi.haha
2 true, time for a political revolution is way over due, the people just need to unite, leaders are only as powerful as theyre followers, a leader with no followers isnt a leader just a person with no more authority. Should just hop on a plane and protest with sione aleki on this jack......
That is sad. We live in the 21st century and Tonga is the only nation that is under a Monarch with its Government entirely made up of the Kings' family and relatives. Its sad that ordinary Tongans cannot voice their concerns because they'll be sent to jail if they want Democracy ¬ Monarchy. Native Tongans dont even own land. Its all govt land or belongs to the wealthy while ordinary Tongans are tenants. Down with Monarchy!!! Yes to Democracy!!
@22871987 The New King is going to change tonga to be a democracy soon so yeaaaaaaaaah.... we can talk around his back and he cant arrest us for doing so.
and your wrong all Native tongan do own land is best down from your father to you..... only if your his older son and you can buy land for like 1-5 thousand US dollar and thats it no monthly payment like we have here in the US
all goverment are corrupt.'' power'' can intoxicate any righteous man. if you have the authority and the sources to reach out and help your people (or anyone) as they cry for help. you choose to ignore those cries!?! you fuck! i bring war to you
A true democracy would allow people to destroy their own community if they felt like it. Truth is, they don't own their community, nor their own lives. Colonialism goes on, oppression continues to live on, corporations continue to take over more land and make use of ignorant people who are poorly educated, have little to no skills, and are easily manipulated.
Thank god they continue to try to bang against their system, but they need more resources, more weapons, and strategy.
Friendly island of tonga...what the heo happen...wea is the love....what happen to the lotu...all i see is 'anga'i manu and acting like a fool....Ta'e pe moe kau pilisone fuckalangalea fuckama...ta'engali e ki'i motu anga'ofa....
Tonga is poor enough, Tongan people are easily influenced and brain washed by thosed who are currupt by evil. If you all trully believed in God, you would have not done all this to your own country, God is watching, when our time comes than you will be judged. The only way Tonga can become a better place is to love God and than you can love others. Just remember there are more people in this world who are suffering more than you and who is living in a country that has no democracy.
@tongaplayer Really hard for those to see through the money being given to them to feed there families.
People in power are comfortable with there riches and must give up there power in teaching others wisdom in obtaining money spreading wealth sharing the democracy forced upon those not knowing how to function in a society witch uses a money system. If not they must start from scratch erasing all ideas of a infrastructure or go back to the word of Yahwh
All those people who think that burning down buildings and vandilising properties is making Tonga a better place? you should be all ashamed, get yourselfs educated and than think of other ways of bringing Tonga up. There are too youth of today in Tonga who are involved in gangs, where are the parents?.
All those who are tongans think to yourself are you really proud to call yourself tongan today than you did back in the days where we knew the word of dignity and respect.
LMAO... Don't waste your time replying.. Do your people a favor & go beg your bosses for overtime, (as many o.t. as ya'll need) cause Samoa & Amelika Samoa hella needs help... And I ain't donating shit! Fuck yo' pride ya' racist matafuckerrrs... LOL
to this Tongalove09, why you calling Akilisi a low life? He's been fighting for the freedom and the right of the people probably before you were even born..or hows about you stand up and so something about it you smart ass...fucken piss me off, go kiss everyones ass around the world together with that PM Sevele and his corrupt cabinet..FUCK
hahah tonga forever them prisoner crack me off lol you see even tho those prisoner where locked up they still have a good laugh lol thats a tongan hospitality..
Sione & Semisi were felons long before the riot around... Their names are Pesamino and Hikiama... Believe me they don't give a shit about politics, that's all just a fake ass excuse !!!
Poor getting back there share? That bxtch dnt know wtf she was yappin about. You cant blame someone for having their own business so they can feed their families? All the poor do is complain and nag. As if there is NO OTHER WAY OUT. When you think like a poor a**, you stay a poor a**. Stay in school, and stop being so vale kai ta'e and blaming the rich and high class. I agree with the protesters and the cry for change. But the riot was uncalled for and a total LOST CAUSE. Nothing came out of it.
wrong bashment916...the riot scared the govt or the king into now listening to thier people. They know they cant just do anything they want and expect the public of tonga to just sit still for it anymore.
WRONG DAROCKY77 the king had the chance to stop it by enforcing the army but no he thought goods can be replaced but lives cannot. Don't ever look at all them stupid people that put down our country and the so called FRIENDLY ISLAND it turned from political to racism and yeah those people are being sentence to 11-25years in jail.........Why arent Akilisi and them low lives coming out and saving there so called followers yeah cos they pigs from hell. & whats change to you and your so called demo.
Faced with limited resources, and an even more limited pocket book, akilisi must use unconventional tactic, including picking at the "beast" one political move at a time, and slowly bleeding it to death. This isn't the time to be brawny, he's got to survive for his movements sake.
2CZ37 let me tell you what the problem is. People that are talking about glovbalization of the market go to a poor nation in latin america, pacific etc. They set up the top businessmen to work with them and exploit people. A person like you and me has no chance of getting on the global business wagon. They swallow us right away. It's not equal opportunity. It's a global mass exploitation scheme by a few people up top, George Bush kind. Then people get fed up and you get chaos.
this is just pathetic especially the lady in red, bloody hell ! a business is a business ! they aint robbing from the poor ! they sell goods in order to feed and provide for thier own family, something all tongans should be doing WORKING !! instead tongans involved that day and that stupid lady encourages theft and arson, what the fuck??!?! bet your great great parents are ashame of all those who participated that day, and sione and semisi, ilonga homo ta'e ako 'elo pehee fau mo english,
wat ever yah hataz said.... all i noe ish us Tongan... we bad ass nd we lov eatin horse.... get over it...nd afta all dat happen... we tongan we love each other....

samoanprideindafale eat ur own u jealous piece of shit. Tongans hav more respect than sa's do. Sa's BRAG on about their tribal tattoos n how their fuken so special. the sa guys prance around in their lava lavas showin their tats n than lifting their lava lavas in womens faces tongan guys wud get smashd if they did dat... sa ppl are just fukn retarded... :D tongan rep all d wai :)
tuituutaufa, we have a saying for those samoan guys you've mentioned "o fanau a manu, e lei aoaia e matua" meaning they're animals not raised properly by their parents. there are few bad apples in every races so don't let the few skew your whole view of the samoan people. i'm sure you have a few bad apples of your own.
I agree with what tr22takos said. It's not right to base a stereotype off a what you believe to be "all sa guys." There are always people like that in ever race as tr22takos states. But also, samoans are very respectful for all races, its just the way they were raised up to be. If Tongans have more respect, then why do they riot, fight, vandalize? Also, most tribal tattoos that sa's have are in part to honor their heritage and if you think their just for show, you dont know nothing of pride.
nothing we can get from riot n all tat stupid things..the only way is to educate ppl..most of the young boys back home they drop out from sch n tats wat they do..steal,drink n smoke weed..the lady on red wat a u doing???encourage ppl to steal from business ppl...bad influence!!!!!
clikBOoOM, that's not totally a true and fair statement. i'm samoan and i don't talk down on the tongans. scan youtupe and you'll see a fair number of both tongans and samoans talking down on each other. that's just ignorant and stupidity and have nothing better to say about anything. they're still stuck in the stone age.
i read your comments & i still think it's unfair but i understand becos your definition of "alot" only stems from your little foxhole & as a tongan person but it's not the whole truth. i think there's a fair number of shit talking across the board so good for having the tongan ninja.
A lot (I didn't ALL) of Samoans talk shit but it doesn't just end there. They brag 'bout more samoans in movies than tongans, famous stars, movie stars, pro athletes, better rugby team, music groups, Island Nation etc.. (You know talking DOWN on Tongans)
Are u jelous of that fact. I repeat, that FACT that samoans are more well known in many fields of sport, media, education & politics than Tongans.Tongans are still slaves to the King, all they do is serve him & his family.Samoans are more hard working as nothing is handed to them & must fight for everything they own. Samoans take on the world, Tongans take on the pacific. We are just in a different class than Tongans.Tongans are horse eating gold teeth slaves of a homo loving king.
Naaah sole...I was just pointing out the fact that a lot of Tongans n' Samoans talk shit back and forth but the Samoans don't just end it there. Gotta put us Tongans down like we some low class dumb race. I maybe dumb, horse eating (horse meat is good)....... wait a minute I'm no slave.......LOL (Samoans hard working) what a joke! I've heard a lot of palangi's talking shit 'bout Samoans where I work (airport) cause of how lazy a lot 'o em are. (No lie) Nope never seen a Samoan 'Iate Crew befo
clikBOoOm, you've just solidify my point of a fair number of shit talking across the board. you complaint about us talking down on you tongans but you're doing the same thing. that's being hypocritical don't you think? samoans are not lazy. they didn't get to be where they're at by just sitting around. i make a good living and nothing was handed to my on a silver platter.
it's interesting to me that there's always this bad blood or rivalry between the samoans and tongans and they (whomever they are) keeps bring up the past but never with or against the fijians. why is that? can somebody pls explain? maybe we need to look into it and learn some lessons from it or maybe i'm out of touch with whatever's going on.
guess wat.. no wun carez.. u happy bkein a samoan... den let us bke.. tonganz are tonganz n samoanz are samoanz.. no wun carez mayne whose more known.. i kno im proud to bke a tongan no matta wat pepo say... no matta how much pepo put us down.. im tongan n proud.. n who kivez a poosit if we eat horse.. it taste good.. gold teef... give us dat tongan smile.. n not jus hamoz gotta fight foe wat dey have.. erywun in da world has to work foe erything in life... so chill cuzz...
i think people care on both sides. i care when i read both samoans and tongans taking down on each other over stupid reasons and ideologies. i makes no sense. i never knew that tongan eat horses or wearing gold teeth until i came on youtube recently but i know that's not all true or samoan wipe their asses on rocks which is a lie. i few might have done it on both sides but someone generalize it. i'm glad your proud being a tongan and rightly so.
Sure riots broke out in Tonga, Lots of buildings were burn down! Nuku'alofa did look like a mess. Sure there are more pro athletes, famous music groups (true) samoans in movies, famous samoans (true) etc etc...
But hey!!! ............................We got Tongan Ninja (on DvD)-please don't laugh...may not be good enough but w' we we trying!
the government dont do shit. the king still has the final say as to what transpires in tonga. if the people want change, the king wont allow it. we is needed is an overthrow of the monarchy or a willing democratic monarchy which at this time, the king wont allow!
If you Americanized Tongans stop watching SHIT on tv (MTV,BET,NEWS,REALITY SHOWs etc.) and do some research, you'd be surprise! Their main "Tool of distraction" ~Media~... Pretty sad..I bet some of you dumbasses voted for Pres. Bush!!!
wolfgramm676, if you think all the other form of gov't is not for the money and power, you're living in a fantasy land and definitely in denial. only in a democratic socitey will allow you to express your opinion freely as you are now. i think it's you that need to open your mind. i'm curious what form of gov't you believe in and why.
M-O-N-E-Y & absolute POWER....That's 'D' only thing Democracy is all about. 1st you get the money then you get the P O W E R!!! example: Look at what America is up to! Leader of the Free World.
The Democracy we speak of is a farce...and only an illusion.. it gets deeper just open your mind...not your eyes... your eyes only see what a distorted mind sees...so open your mind...fight the battle within so you can then see clearly
Wofgram, its not irrelevent for me to say that i disagree or agree, w/eva the situation is, why and who are u judging; americanize or native tonganz? get a more specific with your argument. how can democracy be so deceiving? wolfgramm is a tongan name i believe, but you have just isolated yourself when saying that democracy is an illusion, im tongan, and your a barricader. its never a false impression for those individualz 2 manifest their beliefs! its a revolution.
At least we wipe our asses. What do u guys do? Get ur kids to lick it clean? Or do u use ur hands and then prepare ur umu to feed ur family? Dats y tongans are shittalkers.

Akilisi Pohiva is a true leader of the people. All the other old farts are all talk! The people need to work together, put religous differences to the side and dont fear any threats from the kings officials or take any bribes.Only then will they realize it time for them to kiss the Peoples ass!!! Do what ever it takes to prove its time for change! 'OFA ATU E KAINGA MEI AMELIKA KI HO'O TAU KI'I FONUA!
Its too much kaka talk from all these so called experts in history and politics aint gonna make Tonga a better country. Let the king rule over his subjects (slaves) and let them live in the stone ages. Just dont come over here and bludge off my tax dollars with your welfare claims.
Tonga is what it is and like it or not it's going to be that way for the forseeable future. Although some may see democracy as a means of rights and freedoms, what people fail to realize is that what drives this type of government forward is purly economically based. "The grass is not always greener on the other side" and the few that are striving for change in Tonga should excerise other areas and take into consideration the full spectra of what government change encompasses. MALO
how can democracy flourish when the king has absolute control? it cant. this system has been in power for the ages and in the last centuries, tonga has fallen behind disasterously! one thing that tonga can provide is tourism but the king wont allow the traditions to become extinct with foreigners. tonga is way behind but we can catch up with the right leaders
So what you're suggesting is that Tonga, given the right leaders, can succeed as a democracy? Sorry if this might come off as sounding pessimistic, but honestly do not see Tonga succeeding in terms of adopting democratic ideology nor practical in its application given the context that Tonga is in. Also, what do Tonga and its people have to gain from democracy? Does the implementation of democracy guarantee a better life? If that's your take on what it is than you should really think about it.
yes i really believe, given the right leaders, democracy can turn tonga from a tyrannical state into an equality driven economy / society. what happens when one man has too much power? corruption, greed, regress = modern day tonga. how can you be pessimistic when its obvious a change in the system is needed? what are you suggesting when you do you mean 'context' tonga is in? have you heard of a democratic monarchy?
what i am saying is that democracy creates a forum for which the peoples' voices are represented in the decisions that effect them as a people and a nation. are the people heard when the king decides on matters that directly affect them? i would say, no. the people of tonga grow restless and hunger for their opinions to matter. how can this occur when the govenment is selected by the king and decisions signed off with the royal pen? the people have no voice. i believe democracy can change that!
You're right. Democracy does provide a medium for people to voice their opinions and have a say in what happens in their lives. So does that justify the rioting and looting that is seen in and throughout Tonga? Is this really a reflection of the people or just a few that have their own hidden agenda? Sorry to say it but democracy is only a viable instrument in the right hands and with that I feel that Tonga doesn't have impartial, objective people to see this through. Not bashing Tongans or
nothing justifies looting and rioting but something must be wrong for things to escalate to that level. dont you agree? obviously the tongan people want a change. the king has, a few days ago, signed off on enacting a change that will see tonga as a democractic monarchy beginning in 2010! im glad that this start has began. i hope the tongan people will benefit from this endeavour! much ofa's to all tongans on earth!
all change is good. In all, it comes down to those who want to be in power that are taking this opportunity to feed the flames of jealousy and discontent in order to fulfill their own agendas. I honestly feel that by implementing democracy, it would create more problems for Tonga and its people. I feel that there are other ways the government in place now can appease the people without having to make such radical change.
My argument basically is what is it that the people of Tonga really want from all this? Is it realistic to believe that Tonga has the capacity for economic growth suffice to what its people are seeking? If so, then are the people of Tonga ready to give up the very essence of what makes them unique in regards to tradition and culture in order to create change? I understand that the only variable that one can be certain of in this life is change, but not
you still have yet to suggest any valid alternative. all i hear is pessimism. change has already been set in motion. once again i will say, if tonga was content with the current system, why did the rioting occur? answer me that! democracy will not see an end to the traditions that tongans hold dear to their hearts! it will only promote a system of growth and this may in fact enhance tonga's practice of traditions and can only do to strengthen tonga as a nation in the 21st century! we must evolve
the people of tonga do not need to lose culture to create economic growth. eg-new zealand! the maori's still maintain a strong cultural significance and they do not have a monarchy! our monarchy will remain in tact. the change will occur with the big decisions that will involve the voices of the people. i suggest you really do your research on the pros and cons of democracy. in particular, the british system of democratic monarchy! come back with an informed comment next time.
i haven't suggested anything because i feel that this situation needs to come from the mouths of the people and not from the few extremist out there striking a cord for change. Yeah the system isn't perfect, but i don't see the moms and pops out there going about change the same way these others are. Let's not generalize these notions that all want to see democracy happen in Tonga because it's evident that there are still those advocating for the monarchy... think about it..
i think you are in support of a total monarchy. am i right? if so, you are condemning tonga to an existence of devolution. what can a monarchy achieve that a democratic monarchy cant? if all you are doing is defaming democracy in tonga without suggesting anyhting else, you are just as ignorant and inward as i think some tongans can be. once upon a time, tonga ruled the pacific and were an adventurous people. yes we maintain a monarchy, but at what cost?
those striking the cord are those that want tonga to catch up with the rest of the world! those that sit there and do nothing must be content with their little village lives and be ignorant of what the WORLD was to offer. how many tongans in tonga really know what is out there? the monarchy has in some ways restricted an outward looking approach to life and kept everything about tonga, in tonga and not about tonga, in the world. the current king has the intelligence and agenda to change that!
why is it that those who are content with the simple life have to conform and change in order to be more like the rest of the world? how come it's so imperative for Tongas now to have to assimilate with other cultures and loose ourselves in the process? if you dont think that's the case then look at all the Tongans living abroad.. it's monkey see monkey do and that's basically how i feel about the situation back in Tonga.. a couple people went out and read a couple books, took a couple classes
traveled and now want to come back and criticize and pick at Tonga.. if your measuring stick is the united states, nz, or australia then that comparision is by enlarge one without merrit.. it's basically "manumanu" for something outside themselves. let's just be real about what's going on, people are filling their minds with lies and false hopes only to what.. build them up then crush them down?? all i'm saying is if your going to paint a picture of democracy make sure to use the dark colors too
isnt that the point of progression? to develop ones mind and challenge the people to a better standard of life? why shouldnt USA, NZ or OZ be something of an aspiration for tonga? i'll ask you, are the comforts of your life something you want for tonga to enjoy themselves without having to leave tonga? democracy is in itself a system of government. it is not a culture change! overseas tongans are still culturally rich. do you live like a tongan in america? i think assimilation is necessary
monkey see monkey do?? what does that mean? people are not fillinf their minds with false hopes. it is a fact, the king has enacted a democractic movement beginning 2010. i dont think that is a lie. there will be bumps along the way but tell me a democratic nation that is perfect?! exactly. im certain there are youths in tonga that are content with their lives and sure, why should they change? because progress is the key for survival. 100 years from now, where will tonga be without improvement?
survival? progress? my point is what is it that you wish for tonga i mean honestly? i disagree with you that culture will be changed in that your ideas of progress is different from mine. culture will be lost in the shuffle and change in order to catch up with what the rest of the world is doing. pollution, war, diseases, hunger... are examples that will inevitably exposes tonga and instead of progress in the senses that you speak about will become a harsh reality for tonga and its people..
what is your idea of progress? mine is for tonga to be self sufficient without the number income coming from overseas. this can be achieved through capitalism and private enterprise. specifically, people can start agricultural businesses or whatever they want which is supported by a democratic system of government. true it wont be easy but i believe pollution, disease, hunger already exists. if anything, this will help to improve these circumstances! what is YOUR idea of progress?? you have one?
anything like that but I feel that all you're doing is taking power away from one person and not giving it back to the people but are giving it to a few to govern, which is usually those who have. So who has the most to gain from democracy, the people or those in power...where's the difference?
you live in america where you are free to say what you and most importantly vote for the government you want to make decisions on your behalf. do you consider america better off than tonga because of this system? i do. if the president made his own decisions disregarding what the people wanted, i would think rioting and looting would occur because the people would have no say! i believe a change needs to happen now so that in the future, the right people will rise up into democractic positions!
How the FUCK is DEMOCRACY good for Tonga?! From day 1~Democracy is hypocrisy, corruption, money hungry, warmonger etc. just like any other government!!!
nothing could be worse then that it happening now. democracy promotes equality and freedom of opinion. the king does not control everything with a democratic monarchy!
the tongan pple should get rid of the king all he does is eat they need chang in tongan they need there spokes person to speak up for the tonga and the people of tonga WAT A CORRUPT GOVERNMENT!!!!
what happen ea..da people ova ea laughin" fuckin fob azz bitch..fuc u and yo couch. dis biitch crack me up! wherez ur gold tooth beeatch lol chooooooo hooooooo ya sum funny lookin people...ufa uma okou koga
American 'democracy' is founded on genocide and built on the backs of slavery. Tonga's constitutional monarchy is an ideal system provided the people have parliamentary representation and governmental corruption becomes non existent.
democracy was not built on slavery in America the slaves built the countries economics and agriculture. The way things are in Tonga everything is corrupt from the law officers to customs and sometimes the parliament. Democracy ensures that the people of tonga get what they want.
FUCK DEMOCRACY! Look at what democracys' has gotten the world! America the EVIL EMPIRE! Democracy is nothing but hypocrites, corruptions & evil. I'm not saying that monarchy is the way to run our Island Nation. But Democracy is a TRAP. It is a step for the NEW WORLD ORDER to achieve thier goal.
Your right, democracy is only a word but it's a good word and system when it's use for all the right reasons. Democracy in the right hands have liberated many nations and governments. I respect your opinion but I take democracy anytime versus any isms or other forms of government e.g., monarchism, totalitarianism, communism, socialism, etc.
How does Democracy make anything eviL? America isn't an empire and its only bad because our president is retarded. ANd the monarchy in tonga is corrupt already. Democracy will ensure happiness because the people will have a say in the government.
Thank you for posting this.I know the struggles between "the people" and their governments almost always seem like an uphill battle, especially when the people want to have more of a voice, but I hate to see my fellow Polynesian brothers and sisters suffer because of it.I hope that the people of Tonga can come to some sort of peaceful resolution with their government, and vice versa.PEACE!
They have been entrusted with providing care to their people but instead choose to sell its soul to foreigners for their own financial gain. Is that something to be proud of?
The people want to vote for there leader...obviously they are not happy with there situation...so unhappy that they riott...they need a democracy like the U.S so they can have a say in the rule of their country..I dont know all the details but i know thats what they fight for...its funny..it seems that NZ and Australia are quick to send in troops to check the people but how fast are they to help build a better government? democrasy in TOnga!
Hhahahaha We fight for deme cracy lol bloody freshie i'm halfcast tongan and if that guy did'nt look like my ucle then i'm sonny bill williams. lol soldya cowe and it my eyes lol
Im samoan & feel for my tongan brothers & sisters for what is happening there. Is it so wrong for the people of a country to have a say? I hope they get their wish for democracy.
boceebo. Its more complicating then it looks and seems, especially to a non-Tongan. Theres pros/cons and wrongs/rights on both sides. Misinformation, Misguidance, Miscommunication created this mess. Actually a lot of the pro democracy leaders who are leading these protests have special interests. They talk the young people into rioting and destructing then they run back and hide behind their shacks and laugh from their in their own mischief.Tonga's culture is of RESPECT, no evident on this video
You think your smart....are you retarded....the world has been fuckin with the middle east before the ottoman empire even existed.....stupid ass....a little something called the Crusades....yea fucker....when Europe decide they wanted the Holy Land back you dumbass....yea search deep into your history book....stupid ass....only a fool argues with a fool....A wise man once said....KISS MAH ASS I WIN....HAHAHAHAHA
What Tonga needs mostly is to educate the people. Educate the people in a lot of things.

676Ironman 11 months ago 3
The Tongan people do well for themselves. They are a hardworking people who have a strong belief in God and Family. The King of Tonga also supports this. He even admits to reporters that there will be a time for Democracy. The current democratic movement is a joke. Their leaders are nothing more than baron crooks who think that they can run a country. Those trolls see the great lifestyle of many Americans, thus wanting to copy it. Failure will ensue. The Royal Family is too powerful.

I agree with the protesters and the cry for change. But the riot was uncalled for and a total LOST CAUSE. Nothing came out of it.
BASHMENT916 3 years ago
wrong bashment916...the riot scared the govt or the king into now listening to thier people. They know they cant just do anything they want and expect the public of tonga to just sit still for it anymore.

Tongalove09 2 years ago
Faced with limited resources, and an even more limited pocket book, akilisi must use unconventional tactic, including picking at the "beast" one political move at a time, and slowly bleeding it to death. This isn't the time to be brawny, he's got to survive for his movements sake.
katoanga 2 years ago
2CZ37 let me tell you what the problem is. People that are talking about glovbalization of the market go to a poor nation in latin america, pacific etc. They set up the top businessmen to work with them and exploit people. A person like you and me has no chance of getting on the global business wagon. They swallow us right away. It's not equal opportunity. It's a global mass exploitation scheme by a few people up top, George Bush kind. Then people get fed up and you get chaos.

Blood shed is unnecessary. There's a need for
reformation. The reform cannot be overlooked.
In the meantime, the Monarchy shall sustain their ground because Tonga has held their position having no need to become colonized
nor annexed. The only Pacific Island that
withstood the storm of influence. The standard
was already set & the teens grew restless.Whom
do they blame? How would they know? They learned from a leader who encourage negative energy.Tonga did not need to become damaged. Heal!!

tuituutaufa, we have a saying for those samoan guys you've mentioned "o fanau a manu, e lei aoaia e matua" meaning they're animals not raised properly by their parents. there are few bad apples in every races so don't let the few skew your whole view of the samoan people. i'm sure you have a few bad apples of your own.
tr22takos 3 years ago
I agree with what tr22takos said. It's not right to base a stereotype off a what you believe to be "all sa guys." There are always people like that in ever race as tr22takos states. But also, samoans are very respectful for all races, its just the way they were raised up to be. If Tongans have more respect, then why do they riot, fight, vandalize? Also, most tribal tattoos that sa's have are in part to honor their heritage and if you think their just for show, you dont know nothing of pride.

"They were comparing Samoa to Tonga."
clikBOoOM 3 years ago
Are u jelous of that fact. I repeat, that FACT that samoans are more well known in many fields of sport, media, education & politics than Tongans.Tongans are still slaves to the King, all they do is serve him & his family.Samoans are more hard working as nothing is handed to them & must fight for everything they own. Samoans take on the world, Tongans take on the pacific. We are just in a different class than Tongans.Tongans are horse eating gold teeth slaves of a homo loving king.

samoanprideindafale 3 years ago
Tonga is what it is and like it or not it's going to be that way for the forseeable future. Although some may see democracy as a means of rights and freedoms, what people fail to realize is that what drives this type of government forward is purly economically based. "The grass is not always greener on the other side" and the few that are striving for change in Tonga should excerise other areas and take into consideration the full spectra of what government change encompasses. MALO
tExASyAdAiMaHiNo 3 years ago
how can democracy flourish when the king has absolute control? it cant. this system has been in power for the ages and in the last centuries, tonga has fallen behind disasterously! one thing that tonga can provide is tourism but the king wont allow the traditions to become extinct with foreigners. tonga is way behind but we can catch up with the right leaders
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
So what you're suggesting is that Tonga, given the right leaders, can succeed as a democracy? Sorry if this might come off as sounding pessimistic, but honestly do not see Tonga succeeding in terms of adopting democratic ideology nor practical in its application given the context that Tonga is in. Also, what do Tonga and its people have to gain from democracy? Does the implementation of democracy guarantee a better life? If that's your take on what it is than you should really think about it.
tExASyAdAiMaHiNo 3 years ago
yes i really believe, given the right leaders, democracy can turn tonga from a tyrannical state into an equality driven economy / society. what happens when one man has too much power? corruption, greed, regress = modern day tonga. how can you be pessimistic when its obvious a change in the system is needed? what are you suggesting when you do you mean 'context' tonga is in? have you heard of a democratic monarchy?
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
what i am saying is that democracy creates a forum for which the peoples' voices are represented in the decisions that effect them as a people and a nation. are the people heard when the king decides on matters that directly affect them? i would say, no. the people of tonga grow restless and hunger for their opinions to matter. how can this occur when the govenment is selected by the king and decisions signed off with the royal pen? the people have no voice. i believe democracy can change that!
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
You're right. Democracy does provide a medium for people to voice their opinions and have a say in what happens in their lives. So does that justify the rioting and looting that is seen in and throughout Tonga? Is this really a reflection of the people or just a few that have their own hidden agenda? Sorry to say it but democracy is only a viable instrument in the right hands and with that I feel that Tonga doesn't have impartial, objective people to see this through. Not bashing Tongans or
tExASyAdAiMaHiNo 3 years ago
nothing justifies looting and rioting but something must be wrong for things to escalate to that level. dont you agree? obviously the tongan people want a change. the king has, a few days ago, signed off on enacting a change that will see tonga as a democractic monarchy beginning in 2010! im glad that this start has began. i hope the tongan people will benefit from this endeavour! much ofa's to all tongans on earth!
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
all change is good. In all, it comes down to those who want to be in power that are taking this opportunity to feed the flames of jealousy and discontent in order to fulfill their own agendas. I honestly feel that by implementing democracy, it would create more problems for Tonga and its people. I feel that there are other ways the government in place now can appease the people without having to make such radical change.
tExASyAdAiMaHiNo 3 years ago
My argument basically is what is it that the people of Tonga really want from all this? Is it realistic to believe that Tonga has the capacity for economic growth suffice to what its people are seeking? If so, then are the people of Tonga ready to give up the very essence of what makes them unique in regards to tradition and culture in order to create change? I understand that the only variable that one can be certain of in this life is change, but not
tExASyAdAiMaHiNo 3 years ago
you still have yet to suggest any valid alternative. all i hear is pessimism. change has already been set in motion. once again i will say, if tonga was content with the current system, why did the rioting occur? answer me that! democracy will not see an end to the traditions that tongans hold dear to their hearts! it will only promote a system of growth and this may in fact enhance tonga's practice of traditions and can only do to strengthen tonga as a nation in the 21st century! we must evolve
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
the people of tonga do not need to lose culture to create economic growth. eg-new zealand! the maori's still maintain a strong cultural significance and they do not have a monarchy! our monarchy will remain in tact. the change will occur with the big decisions that will involve the voices of the people. i suggest you really do your research on the pros and cons of democracy. in particular, the british system of democratic monarchy! come back with an informed comment next time.
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
i haven't suggested anything because i feel that this situation needs to come from the mouths of the people and not from the few extremist out there striking a cord for change. Yeah the system isn't perfect, but i don't see the moms and pops out there going about change the same way these others are. Let's not generalize these notions that all want to see democracy happen in Tonga because it's evident that there are still those advocating for the monarchy... think about it..
tExASyAdAiMaHiNo 3 years ago
i think you are in support of a total monarchy. am i right? if so, you are condemning tonga to an existence of devolution. what can a monarchy achieve that a democratic monarchy cant? if all you are doing is defaming democracy in tonga without suggesting anyhting else, you are just as ignorant and inward as i think some tongans can be. once upon a time, tonga ruled the pacific and were an adventurous people. yes we maintain a monarchy, but at what cost?
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
those striking the cord are those that want tonga to catch up with the rest of the world! those that sit there and do nothing must be content with their little village lives and be ignorant of what the WORLD was to offer. how many tongans in tonga really know what is out there? the monarchy has in some ways restricted an outward looking approach to life and kept everything about tonga, in tonga and not about tonga, in the world. the current king has the intelligence and agenda to change that!
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
why is it that those who are content with the simple life have to conform and change in order to be more like the rest of the world? how come it's so imperative for Tongas now to have to assimilate with other cultures and loose ourselves in the process? if you dont think that's the case then look at all the Tongans living abroad.. it's monkey see monkey do and that's basically how i feel about the situation back in Tonga.. a couple people went out and read a couple books, took a couple classes
tExASyAdAiMaHiNo 3 years ago
traveled and now want to come back and criticize and pick at Tonga.. if your measuring stick is the united states, nz, or australia then that comparision is by enlarge one without merrit.. it's basically "manumanu" for something outside themselves. let's just be real about what's going on, people are filling their minds with lies and false hopes only to what.. build them up then crush them down?? all i'm saying is if your going to paint a picture of democracy make sure to use the dark colors too
tExASyAdAiMaHiNo 3 years ago
isnt that the point of progression? to develop ones mind and challenge the people to a better standard of life? why shouldnt USA, NZ or OZ be something of an aspiration for tonga? i'll ask you, are the comforts of your life something you want for tonga to enjoy themselves without having to leave tonga? democracy is in itself a system of government. it is not a culture change! overseas tongans are still culturally rich. do you live like a tongan in america? i think assimilation is necessary
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
monkey see monkey do?? what does that mean? people are not fillinf their minds with false hopes. it is a fact, the king has enacted a democractic movement beginning 2010. i dont think that is a lie. there will be bumps along the way but tell me a democratic nation that is perfect?! exactly. im certain there are youths in tonga that are content with their lives and sure, why should they change? because progress is the key for survival. 100 years from now, where will tonga be without improvement?
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
survival? progress? my point is what is it that you wish for tonga i mean honestly? i disagree with you that culture will be changed in that your ideas of progress is different from mine. culture will be lost in the shuffle and change in order to catch up with what the rest of the world is doing. pollution, war, diseases, hunger... are examples that will inevitably exposes tonga and instead of progress in the senses that you speak about will become a harsh reality for tonga and its people..
tExASyAdAiMaHiNo 3 years ago
what is your idea of progress? mine is for tonga to be self sufficient without the number income coming from overseas. this can be achieved through capitalism and private enterprise. specifically, people can start agricultural businesses or whatever they want which is supported by a democratic system of government. true it wont be easy but i believe pollution, disease, hunger already exists. if anything, this will help to improve these circumstances! what is YOUR idea of progress?? you have one?
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago
anything like that but I feel that all you're doing is taking power away from one person and not giving it back to the people but are giving it to a few to govern, which is usually those who have. So who has the most to gain from democracy, the people or those in power...where's the difference?
tExASyAdAiMaHiNo 3 years ago
you live in america where you are free to say what you and most importantly vote for the government you want to make decisions on your behalf. do you consider america better off than tonga because of this system? i do. if the president made his own decisions disregarding what the people wanted, i would think rioting and looting would occur because the people would have no say! i believe a change needs to happen now so that in the future, the right people will rise up into democractic positions!
thatdudeuknow 3 years ago

American 'democracy' is founded on genocide and built on the backs of slavery. Tonga's constitutional monarchy is an ideal system provided the people have parliamentary representation and governmental corruption becomes non existent.
GAZAMAT 3 years ago 2
democracy was not built on slavery in America the slaves built the countries economics and agriculture. The way things are in Tonga everything is corrupt from the law officers to customs and sometimes the parliament. Democracy ensures that the people of tonga get what they want.
poly408 3 years ago
