@Confusedzz it is teaching. People who can't do splits should do some warming and streching and after that try making the splits. When you stay as much as you can on your splits your muscles and ligaments start to relax. So this is teaching.

SmarChris, the older you the less your flexible. Also if you have played sports dealing with running, that also hurts your flexibility due to not stretching after playing. you just need to constantly stretch everyday
I've been going to Kenpo Karate classes 4 hours weekly, and spending 30-45 minutes a day stretching, and I still cannot perform a split after about 2 months of this program. Is this normal? How long will it take me to be able to reach that amount of flexibility? I'm 19/male/healthy & athletic.
My flexibility is improving, but its ever-so-slow.
it takes people longer and shorter depending on your body type and age. It took me 3 weeks to do a front split and 3 and a half years to do a full side split

This is called an True Front Split in ElaticSteel method. In reality an Open Front Split is more applicable to most martial arts techniques.
I explain the difference at ElasticSteel channel.
Most people find True Front Split more difficult, so it's good example of that variation.

what do you mean why? If you tilt your foot one way or the other, some people can dislocate their knees doing that if they're not careful.
