Even though this wasn't the best Superman movie, I think most of us can agree that its better than Superman III and IV. I really like this movie a lot.
Even with it's many flaws Superman Returns was a pretty good Superman movie and even better crafted movie. I'll watch this over Smallville any day for example.
It was a great tralier, and marlon brando kills it. Also the superman hovering was taken from neo in the matrix reloaded to me. In the game neo did the same thing but he didnt have to listen, he had intuiation. But great trailer. but the dark knights trailer was a tad better.
I didn't think the movie was awful, but it was far from the perfect Superman film we have all been waiting for. However this is one of the best teasers I have ever seen. It makes me tear up actually. Sigh.
Great teaser, disappointing film. It's a shame to cause I would have loved to see Superman knock out Metallo, Parasite, Darksied, etc and have Routh back in the tights, and yes tights. I hate how Superman doesnt have them anymore. Ridiculous.
Oh and the spaceship at the :45 mark is footage that ended up on the cutting room floor. Apparently, Singer filmed a whole sequence that showed Superman's journey to the remains of Krypton and that's him navigating his home planet. I'd love to see a Director's Cut of this movie to see what else may have been discarded that could have helped the story.
I get goosebumps when I watch this. John Williams' score makes my heart practically burst.
I agree with Melekith on the point about Singer making a fan's tribute, but I think the movie was sorely lacking in many aspects. Luthor as the villain didn't bother me so much as the fact that it's pretty much the same evil plan he had in the original: His mad quest for real estate. Kinda boring and very underwhelming for a character with so much depth. Very interested to see Snyder's take.
I've never really been able verbalize it, the very core of what drives me.
Until now.
Humanity can be a great people if they wish to be, they only lack the light to show the way, for this reason, above all, their capacity for good, I'm driven to be the change that I want to see in the world.
One of the GREATEST TRAILERS EVER! I love how he is floating in space and when he hears something, he bursts through the atmosphere and the friction flames surround him and then a SONIC BOOM. If you EVER read the comic books, Superman loved the study of ballistics and he uses the theory of ballistics to scan the world for trouble in space just like that scene and get to he trouble as fast as possible.
Woooow! I really hope your being sarcastic right now! Every Superman fan knows that that is the voice of the great actor "Marlon Brando" who played Superman's father Jor-El in the original "Superman: The Movie"
@ryanispimpin I was commenting on how he was speaking, just listen to the trailer again. Superman's dad gives his son to earth like God does to Jesus. Think before you post Superman fan.
I'll never understand the critics and fanboys reactions to this film. It was viewed as a major letdown yet I think it was terrific. Routh was great as Superman; ditto for Spacey as Luthor. I will take this film over any of that Spiderman garbage anyday of the week.
I'll never understand the negative reaction this movie recieved (mostly from fanboys of course). I loved it and this teaser trailer makes it all the more awesome.
I think where Singer went wrong was making this a sequel to Superman 2. He should have made a stand alone fiim and it probably would have been more readily accepted. But like I said, I loved it.
Marlon Brando is really underated when it comes to this film, his role in the Superman movies in my opinion was what really gave them their classic moments that really made the film special and unique. His voice is incredible, R.I.P. Brando
You have to look at this film for what it was...a fan's tribute to a great childhood memory. That's exactly what Singer did, and while it's not the greatest movie of all time, I found it enjoyable.
This teaser however...is the greatest teaser I've yet to see in the history of film. Period.
@Melekith135 however.. i wouldn't call this the greatest teaser in the history of film.. how old are you man? in my opinion, the greatest teaser in the history of film would have to be the Terminator 2 teaser trailer.
@pmh632@pmh632 I'm 25, but that's not important. T2 is absolutely up there, but there is something special about this one...something timeless. The way it builds itself up, Marlon Brando's voice, the theme music. T2 (the film itself) was a masterpiece, and so the teaser doesn't actually hold it's own weight against the movie. But Superman Returns was mediocre enough in that this trailer STILL makes me think that I haven't seen the movie yet (even though I have). I can't really explain it.
@Melekith135 I feel you on that one. But the images from the man of steel makes me think zack is gonna kick ass on the new one. But he has his work cut out richard donners superman is still in our minds. Chris reeves superman in my mind is steel superman or at least his look as far as apearence. I agree with alot of superman the animated series superman's ideas. But chris reeves is superman.
@Melekith135 You're absolutely right about what Singer was trying to do. I applaud him for that because I loved Superman 1 and 2, unfortunately it just backfired for him because audiences weren't aware of that. Though I loved the film and especially this teaser trailer, most didn't. Singer would have been better off rebooting the franchise, which is what they're going to now anyway.
@OconByrd519 The only thing I'd say he did wrong was make Lex Luthor the villain AGAIN. With the technology at his disposal, everyone was expecting an epic battle with someone who could go toe to toe with Superman. Other than that, the visuals of the movie were spectacular and Luthor's evil plot wasn't so bad either. Most people wanted a more jacked Superman but who on this Earth is that jacked and can also act? To this day this remains one of the most enticing and inspiring movie trailers.
A simply outstanding teaser trailer. It perfectly illustrates who is Superman. He isn't a puppet for the U.S. government nor an imperialist alien transgressor. He's a man of virtue, character and great moral fibre. It's a shame the film was dismal. At least we have Chris Nolan & David Goyer treament of Superman to which to look forward!
even though the movie wasn't amazing this trailer inspires a tidal wave of emotion in my heart and fills my mind with generations of memories that are embodied in this character
This trailer and the trailer for Dark City are two of my all time favorite trailers... ever.
