  • Ziggy Stardust?

  • @Marshallsg Similar chord progression to that, and Radiohead's "Blackstar." :)

  • Great demo. The 620 with hi-gains sound the best.

  • The toasters sound great when distorted (very thick), but the single coils are much better for clean tones. IMHO.

  • @roundaboutwrongway I usually hear the opposite. I love my high-gains with thick distortion. Toasters are suppose to sound thinner.

  • Dude you have way too many toys.....im jealous. Do you own a shop or what? But love your videos.

  • Great comparison. Thanks for uploading. I have a Ric 360, and it's nice to see how it compares with the solid body Rics. The 620 sounds great. 650 isn't the quintessential Ric, but still nice in its own right. Thanks for putting this together!

  • Nice Rics!! They would sound better through a real Vox though.

  • @Frontierblues real Vox? Please explain!

  • @technicouleurs I should say a British Vox! Ive tried some of the CC models ac 15 and 30 ac and they arent horrible ,they just miss something I cant put my finger on! Ihave had the pleasure of playing thru a few oldie mid 60s Ac 30s and 15s and gotten spoiled on their sounds

  • WOW! I'm a Gretsch player, and now you're making me want to add a Ric to the stable!!! What a great tone!!!

  • i dont know how people can call these guitars 'ugly' if i had the money, i would go overboard on rickenbacker

  • does anyone know if rickenbacker made/make a 350d without the mirror plate for the knobs? its the only thing i dislike about the guitar and i really want one after seeing cbas of DSS playing one and im seeing them tomorow so ill get a good look at it.

  • The 360 is very well suited for small hands. It has a very thin neck and the action is very low! Infact all Ricks have thin necks except the 660, which has the wider neck.

  • can you tell me which model should I get? I have small hand, does 360 has fat neck?

  • @ycformosa if u have small hands get a 325

  • thanks for the comparisons! I'm deciding between a 330 and 620, but I've only played a 650.

  • Good lordy, it's Kevin Rudd!

  • I wish they still made that 650. I have a 360 now; takes a great deal of practice to really play those guitars.

  • i love vox amps, probably my favourite then marshall, then fender.

  • I have a Tom Petter 12 model with a Fender Blues Deluxe. That combo blows away any Ric combo I have heard. I am not sure what type of pickups are on the 660TP, but they aren't the normal toasters. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.

  • What kind of speaker do you have driving that AC30?

  • I recently tried a rick at my local guitar store and fell in love, how much money would I have to drop to get a decent rick if i bought used?

  • well round about 1,500 usd or 1350gbp

for a 360 series and about 1000 to 1500 usd or 800 to 1350 for most others

but you could find a 480/481 for about 700 usd or 550gbp

  • @kyzrvlhlm1995 If you find a 480 or 481 for that price you let me know! :)

  • @kyzrvlhlm1995 i've seen two 481 on ebay recently, one is still on there and you wouldn't get much change outta 3 grand i'm afraid. i've got a 480 and it cost me 900gbp but if you manage to find one in a shop a good one will set you back between 1200 and 1800 thats if you can find one, it took me well over a year to find one that wasnt beaten to shit

  • @MrMannydac you calling that guy out of kasabian a lair? :)

  • @kyzrvlhlm1995 pre kasabian you could pick up a 481 for around 700-800 quid, since kasabian blew up and serge became an icon you aint got no chance pal. if you can find one for that price then snap it up cos you will make a killing, in fact if you find one for that price then let me know! :)

  • the 620 is 1300 about

  • Hello, nice demo! First of all, the second guitar is a 620, right? It says 320/6 in the video.. I have a Ric on my wish list, but I'm not sure which model to choose. If you had to choose only one of these three, which one would you choose, and why?

  • rednedd

rickenbackers have a really nice jangle to them on the 330

there mainly for finger picking if you want the nicest effect frm them but if you more of a strumming type of guitarist the 620 are really good

  • @racedemon89 sounds like "next year" by foo fighters

  • the first reminds me of knocking on heavens door :)

  • Some of the chords reminded me of First Cut is the Deepest

  • that*

  • that's hasn't been determined.

so for now it's a docjefferyb original.

  • i think im gonna buy the rickenbacker 620. its sexy :D haha

  • Love the sound - which guitar could give me a similar sound for around £300-£350?

  • None.

I am not even being a troll or an elitist. A Rickenbacker truly has a sound all its own. It's very hard (if not impossible) to truly reproduce, especially for 300-350 British pounds.

  • second hand fender telecaster

  • hate to break it to ya but you aint gonna find anythin else like a rick,

  • @dimflamingo if u can find one a tokai rockinbetter would suffice but they arent made anymore and farely rare for a 3 year old guitar

  • cuanto te costo esa guitarra?

  • The 620 has a great warm sound. This was helpful to me. Is either the 330, 360, or 370 (the ones I can find for sale now) warmer then any of the others in that group?

    Thanks

  • and it seems to me, that you lived your life, like a candle in the wind, never knowing which rickenbacker to whip out when the rain set in !

  • Man, you have nice gear. I like the first guitar, it chimes huge. Man, I am jealous. Great video.

  • hey dude thats some nice playing greatly complimented by the best guitars in the world! but what are the exact settings with your 360? I know the toasters definitely give it that jangle but do you have any kind of effect on it? compression? also what are the amp settings? i would really like to know and it would help me decide between toasters and high gains

  • is ur ac30 an old one or the new models? coz my dad has an old ac30 in original condition and its worth a shitload now

  • I love the slight crunch you have on the 360. It's like a slightly heavier version of The Byrds. Well done.

  • I play a Rickenbacker model 1997 with a Vox Ac30 cc2. Wondering what the device is that sits on top of your amp?

  • I don't know for sure, but I would guess it was perhaps a compressor. One way for people to truly get the most out of their Rickenbacker's is to run it through a compressor. Roger McGuinn does that among other notables.

  • ha u look a bit like elton john! loved the video i love rics im thinking of getting a 325

  • which one of these two would you guys have?

  • these 3 i meant

  • i think scatterwounds are the "toaster" pickups.

  • what is scatterwounds?

  • scatterwounds are the toaster vintage pickups used for historical accuracy.

  • idk if i want a rick or an AC30 more...lol.

  • you want the rick i promes!

  • lol

  • ricks are the best

  • You rock brother! Quite a collection of RICs you have going on there.

  • 620 FTW!

  • Hearing a rickenbacker always makes me smile....... very nice

  • please do a similiar test with all three of them with overdrive/light distortion

  • Great vid. buuuutt.... I STILL CANT DECIDE!! Im either getting a 620 or a 360 (6 string) both fireglo and I cant decide!!!!!!! HELP PLEASE

  • Buy the 620, I bought one 3 days ago.. Compared the 2 (360 & 620) in one shop and I think the 620 gives so much more body and character to your sound.. Try to compare the two in the same shop at the same amp and let those guitars speak.. :) good luck.. (I bought the 620 jetglow)

  • i did exactly what you said (different amps though)...(two different stores) so basically i tried to follow your advice but i fell in love with the 620. Now guess what! i bought a 620 with fireglo! IM IN LOVE

  • Hey Doc, your post is probably the most useful Rickenbacker comparison around. I bought a 620. RIC people take note!

  • I played bothe the 360 and the 620 today. I personally liked the 620 better. Now to convince my dad to buy it for my birthday....

  • 360 has a sharper sound compared to the others..

  • maybe its just me but the humbuckers sound horrible compared to the other two. hehe

  • I agree with you. the 360 and the 620 sound like ur typical beautiful Rickenbacker sound that we love. the dakota 650 sounds a little to distant from that renound jangle of your typical Rickenbacker

  • MrBronson66, I'd be glad to take one of those "crappy" Rickenbackers off your hands. ;)

  • When Pete Townshend played Can't Explain with that at Shindig, the opening riff sounded like a piano

  • A very rich and unique souds!! I love strato+plexi and obviously ricky+vox!!!

  • That 650 sounds like a piece of crap. Sell it.

  • haha. i've got one. they kick ass. it has humbuckers, so the amp setting he used for the two with single coils sucks for it.

  • I used to have one too. It sounded as shitty as this one here, so I sold it and got a better model.

Rickenbackers are very hit-and-miss - a good one sounds like heaven, but there are a lot of crap Rickies knocking about. S'all I'm saying.

  • if you say so. i just question your amp choice.

  • Yeah, humbuckers sound too muddy through Ac30's. It's probably going to sound good through a Fender Deluxe Reverb.

  • do you know if its possible to put a bigsby on them?

  • look better in black

  • Rickenbacker guitars and vox amps were made for each other!

  • Rics are about the best there is. I just wish it didn't take so long to get one.

  • I'm debating between purchasing a 360 and a 620 so this is helpful. Any insights? I'd go with HiGains on either. Does one "play better" or is one more versatile? The 360 seems to have a bit more bass, which I like. FYI, I use a Vox AC15. Thanks.

  • I'm about to buy a 360/12 Rickenbacker. From what I've read they are the best for that cool clear jangly sound.

  • the 360 has a little bit of more "punch", in my opinion get a 360, you can get a lot of vintage sounds out of it, but on the other hand i think the 620 has more sustain, anyways it would depend on what style of music and the kind of sound you want, try them both so you can see.

  • just like the beatles guitar

  • Rickenbackers are awesome guitars and i like that this video provides a comparison on the different models. however, they are capable of much more interesting sounds than the boring mid 90's sounding college rock/ronan keating sound that this guy is going for.

  • good movie

    good sound!!

    thank you!!!!

  • Because Rickenbakers are superior. I own a LP, a Strat, a SG and an Ibanez RG2550. I'm not biased. Rickenbackers are some of the world's best guitars. All expertly crafted and hand-made.

  • see this proves that wood counts ya know the first one is maple and a hollow body its tone is bright and hollow sounding. the second is solid body maple which makes it bright and sustains then the third is walnut which is very slightly softer than maple but u can hear the change in tone to something less bright but more mellow and muter

    : )

  • Yes, but remember that the three guitars have different pickups in them too, and the first one is semi-hollow while the other two are solid, that ought to have a pretty big difference in tone too...

  • Could you make a video with the 650 through another amp. The camera you are using distorted the Vox Ac30, and I use a fifty watt amp most of the time. I'm going to buy one soon.

  • The Toaster pickups surely sound nice.

  • damn, what song are you playing it sounds familiar, is it a beatles song?

  • Sounds more like Radiohead to me, but I doubt it.

  • Oh lord, forgive me for giving MY opinion on what it sounds like. I said that I, "DOUBT IT".

  • Pretty good jod comparing the guitars, letting the ears be the judge.

I love the 360 "open" sound, how much do you think it owes to the hollow body?

    Regards

    Miguel

  • i quite like the 620.

  • Damn, my fav set ;)

  • which of the 3 do you ,personally, prefer?

  • It would be great!

  • Why don't you compare the guitars through another amp?

The Vox AC30 makes for a very compressed tone and all of you ricks will sound samey if played through it!

If you really want to give us an interesting comparison, use a glassy loud amp like the Fender Twin or the Hiwatts!

    Thanx

  • As you can see from the video, I'm a huge Vox fan. I don't have any big Fenders or a Hiwatt, however, eventually I'll record these guitars through the Marshall 18 watter that you can see in the background with a bit of grit.

  • it woul be great!
