  • You have a very sexy british accent!

  • @BeckyIsABeautyBabe Agreed!

  • thanks so much, ive always been quite the artist but sucked at hair

  • @MrMakMan1 glad i could help! :)

  • thanks for the reply also do u have other videos on shading if so i would like to see that video as well. I am practicing on drawing hair and it is driving me up the wall because now that i seen this video it is wise to have patients if you want perfect art i tend to rush things but i see now that patients is plus in art and in life.. thanks bro....

  • @Loadedmagsny yeah sure mate! i have a portrait tutorial series step by step of me drawing rihanna. Its 13 parts...i think lol...have a look at some of them, shading and more tips with the hair are there :) good luck!

  • about roughly how long does it take to draw hair and make it come out looking realistic? please reply..

  • @Loadedmagsny depends on the detail...my drawings are much more detailed than in this video now, so the hair can take between 5 and 15 hours to draw, for men and women respectively :)

  • this is actually kinda useful as i suck at drawing hair a lot lol

  • @kate0566 glad u cud make some use of it lol :)

  • thank you for not using time lapse :>

  • @Shan2809 thanks lol. its easier this way tbf

  • what kind of pencil are yuo using

  • @matthewjg10 mechanical 3B 0.5mm pencil :)

  • @AndrewFisherArt thanks

  • what kind of paper you use? can i get that in staples? or office depot?

  • @drpalak79 for this it was just normal sketch paper, but nowadays i use better quality artist paper. bristol board 300gsm is what i like. its something u may find in staples...but its more or a specialised art shop product :)

  • @AndrewFisherArt : Thanks a lot ! I just tried Bristol 300 gsm smooth one, but it still has medium tooth, and I can't draw the fine details on it ! I think, I need the one with fine tooth... how about 400 series Strathmore sketch paper? it has fine tooth, should allow me to sketch microdetails...right? ( needed your expert opinion ). Thanks again !

  • @drpalak79 hmm i'v never heard of this "tooth" but i can imagine what it is. i'v heard good stuff about the strathmore but i cant find it where i live....so read some other reviews i think. i'm not the best at advice here, i'm semi professional! I would simply say work with bristol board until u get good and feel the paper is limiting you, then see if there is a more expert alternative. sorry though. THANKS :D

  • Very nice and helped me alot..

I made a youtube account just to subscribe you :)

  • bro you deserve more views and subscribers but all that matters is the right people are watching this and THANKS your hair tutorial helped a lot im defenitly subscribing

  • @smokeybone1

    thanks so much mate :D

  • One of my favorite things about this video is that you take the time so I can watch your pencil marks closely to compare to my own limited ability to draw, so I can then (hopefully) improve. I also like the vocal explanations (great accent, too!). Thanks for posting this!

  • @JenJW

i'm glad u like it so much! and that i could help. you should check out my other tutorial videos then, i do a progressive series on pencil realism. and u can hear more of my 'great'/horrible accent =]

  • i ♥ your accent and your work it helped alot

    thanks .

  • @azillia1

    haha..thankyou :3

  • Wow dude your a genius, keep drawing and never stop collecting more knowledge about your talent.

By the way, did you use your 5mm mechanical pencil to draw the face, too?

  • @ThronticSider

thanks so much. man though my later stuff is muuuuch better lol

and ....sometimes. its easier for a wider more blunt pencil

  • that is freaking amazing o,O

  • @isis211

thanks a lot! but i'v improved wayyyy much more since then lol

  • your sweaty palm XD your to funny!!!

  • a latex glove is good for stopping sweat from your hand getting on your masterpiece...

  • @R4R45 ooh! Thats good advice! I never thought of that!

  • @IAmMissyFeck no prob :)

  • you're very charismatic and this helped a lot. haha don't apologize for the camera :-p

    great tutorial!!

    PS. I looooove lost!

  • wow thanks haha. lots of compliments are always nice =]

PS how amazing was last season!!!? this new season i'm hoping will be even better. i love how terrified richard was of jacobs enemy so he must be powerful :D

  • excelent I'm portuguese and I study art, and you are great :D congratulations

  • thanks so much!

  • do you draw ONLY with a pencil and no pen or makers?

  • i sometimes use pen, but i dont think i ever use mix media with pencil. normally with acrylic.

  • that doesn't really look like hair it just looks like you drew a bunch of shapes and shaded them in

  • i think that it wasnt that good. sorry!:(

  • this is really good.......man i whis i culd draw that gud at realism.....but this is helpful i normaly just go random with hair ^^

  • i used to be the same. looking back at this i see how much i have improved. if u keep practising and trying to see yourself where you go wrong - improvement happens just..so fast! haha

  • thats crazy. i just randomly stumbled upon this...idk anything about drawing but your talented! and then to find out your videoing it your self...wow

  • haha thanks! and yeah its horrible :P

  • whats the difference between anime hair and realistic har?

  • your mom

  • andy you buttface!

atleast XLehctimX was nice enough to

explain to me the difference you big meanie! *mimicks* " your mom "

psh i assure you sir that my mom has nothing to do with drawing hair or drawing in general!

  • one actually looks like hair. Don't get me wrong I started off on anime drawing and I still do draw some anime, But... comeon..

  • 0:25 - 0:27 vewy xD

for some reason your voice reminds me of ron weasly bloody hell! XDD

    good drawing again bro

  • your just gingerist D:

  • I want to know if you want to answer this for me. Are you a professional artist? If so are you able to make a living or alternative income with your work? I can draw very well too but I stoped drawing because I feel it is too hard to get a career in it. Also with computers these days it feels like artists who draw with pencil and paper are less wanted.

Is this accurate? Thanks in advance.

  • honestly dude, i'm not a pro. i'm a student haha. i'm learning art fast, my art now is much better than whats displayed in this vid, but i'm still far from the big names. Unless your one of the big names, theres not much money in it. This is from experience of talking to local and online artists. even if you do become great and famous, i still cant see you having an amazing income. Your work wont be sold for ridiculous prices like the pre raphaelite stuff.

  • i'd advise taking a full time or part time job and making this a hobby. =]

  • Ok. artist is a very broad term, if you want to be a famous painter or a portrait artist then yes your income is going to be low if your not a big name. But lets say you wanted to be an animator or a graphic artist then the money is very good.

People will tell you through schools/colleges/universities that Art on its own doesn't make the money. well there half right, the truth is if you combine art with another subject then thats when the money starts to shine. If you take - (message continued)

  • If you take-

art + computers = 3d/2d animator, graphic designer. ect

art + fashion = fashion designer. ect

    art + engineering = architect . ect

art + science = 3d modeler of hospital equipment (the real name escapes me)

    art + drama = PROPS!

art + film school = story-boarding , to digital film, special effects the list goes on.

so anyway you can see what im doing here, the point is there is money to be made with art. We live in a media culture so there will always be the need for designers.

  • Yeah, but I can't work on computers in an office. I make video games as a hobby but I usually use models or sprites or textures that some one else made with royalties. Sometimes I'll do the simple art work, i'll even make the music for games because I love making music. But I'm not a good 3d modeller I know how to modell in 3d but my best talent is drawing on paper with a pencil. And there doesnt seem to be much of a need for it anymore.

  • Yah but those might not be ARTS the artist likes. I enjoy drawing people, not crap.. and I enjoy drawing with a pencil and no help from a computer. Which a lot of artist would agree. So there's only money in CERTAIN kinds of art...

  • True. So i suppose the only question you have to ask yourself, what is more important? Money , self satisfaction or both.

Then go into a style of art that gives you one of the three. above.

  • what kind of led pencil is that

  • mechanical! lol

  • haha i never got that far into lost to see what jacob looked like...

    and cool tips xD

  • you are so clever would you teach me to draw hair

  • hair isnt my strongest subject, but its just like i said in the video. what dont you understand, maybe i can help?

  • Thank U so much I will try this metod

  • np =]

  • Wow You're GREAT!

  • thanks a lot! check out my other art on deviant art, search andrewfisherart =]
