To me, there are LOTS of better keyboardists than Rudess. He's good, ok ... He plays fast, ok ... Went to pretigious shcool, ok ...
Maybe he's a good keyboardist, but he's the poorest synth programmer I know. Using very expensive and sometimes legendary synths (like Minimoog) to just output "blips" from them, it's not what the best do.
And for me (who is no keyboarder but loves the sound of it) it´s more important his phrasing, his melodic choises and his compositions than the "sound" or "programms" that he uses... sounds and programms are no music. Melody, Rhythm and Style are music!!
