is it dry? because when it is i can't get my 1999 ls 400 to spin the wheels even when it's in power mode with the traction control off, and it only has 79000 on it
@stroock6394 yeah is was dry, but this was in the middle east the roads there are smoother so it tends to slide more.. but if you give it brake then gas and rev it to like 2k rpm you could slide a bit
@metalrocke if you're in the middle east, i'm going to guess that the gas there has a higher octane level there than in america, here it only goes up to 91
these cars are the best. my mom has a 1996 ls400, the most reliable car i ever experienced. these cars are pretty fast as well, i have never handled a car so perfectly during powersliding then a ls400. i want the 2000 model black with chrome rims. there perfect cars.
@818mrAlkash toyotas made many mistakes. BUT i feel the ls400 was one of their better cars. the older you find these, the cheaper they are. but problems can be pricy lol :(
I'm not even going to get into the older Audi, Merc, or Jag. I know countless individuals who would put their trust in an older Lexus over these jewels. And also managed to stay cheaper from the lot. You really lost creditability when you put your faith in a country who has a whopping two automakers left these days. Renault being your only saving grace. Please..oh, and KBB was just an example on how these "boxes on wheels", are clearly more
Not even going to waste the time replying to this one. Over priced and ricey? While the Soarer boasted a much more superior power train, drive train, and in general reliability than it's E30 counter part. I'm
Good friend of my has this car too. We often drive with it. You also noticed when your putting the pedal to the floor that you feel speed until high revs, then it feels like sorth of death. and when the next gear comes in you feel pushed back in your seat again?
Love that car. Underrated because it has all the luxury you need for a hole lot less the price of bmw or merc etc.
@Call0fDuty3 yeah I know what you mean, if you get new throttle cables its way better too, this video is old I know have a exhaust, intake and now new throttle cables on the car and now its better power, restored horsepower
New throttle cables? Never heard of that, but very obvious ofcourse. But it's a great car. Actually feels faster then my parents Audi A6 4.2 which has 335 hp and goes faster.
Sick! Yeah it's a fast car the Audi, lucky to have it. Great sound! But I guess I would prefer the Lexus to drive it myself. Just because it feels lighter and faster. ( more exciting! ) the Audi is just a limo. You dont feel anything when it accelerates. You just look at the speedometer and you hear the sound but nothing happens:p And the speedometer goes like hell haha.
@Call0fDuty3 Yeah haha I know what you mean, if you get a lexus get an 2004 Lexus ls 430 , the newer body style, those are a bit faster than the ls 400 you wont regret it, plus you get all the luxury in the world in it, thats what im getting next, hopefully soon .. thanks man ,, take caree
damn i miss doing 100 or better in my ls400..since i put these 24's on i can only do about 65 max lol..i know what ima do..take em off and meet you on the track ya diggg
@nayrruhtra me niether but you'd be suprised how many cars I thought I could never beat thats I beat, no lie its a really fast car and till this day I still enjoy it.
I accidentally came across a good deal on a 98 Lexus LS and researched before I bought it, I was surprised to find out that it's so fast while it is such a heavy and big car. The GS 400 (98-2000) is a bit faster than LS though, it's got the same engine and transmission and does 0-60 in 5.4s, the fastest production sedan, if wikipedia is to be trusted.
@optimistsRUS Yup that is true, GS 400 is basicly the sport edition of the lexus, while having the same engine it has an increase 10 HP and 10 torque and is about 200 pounds lighter.. average 0-60 times with it is around 5.5ish .. its really fast. I currently put a exhaust and intake on my ls 400 and get 0-60 around 5.7 seconds.. stayed really close to a gs 400 not even a half a car difference
My sibling has a GS 400 and I know what you're talking about but I never tried to time 0-60 on either car. I used to be a Camry fan but the LS has spoiled me and I can't imagine giving up the ride it offers!
The book is, ironically, called The End of Detroit. I will put it plain and simple, and then I am leaving this thread because arguing over the internet is pointless, especially when nobody wants to be wrong. Toyotas are for people who NEED to drive. They need a car to get where they want to go, and it will get them there. The ones I mentioned are for people who WANT to drive. For those who truly enjoy motoring. If you feel you HAVE to drive, then you shouldn't be driving because it isnt enjoyed.
@imserious2187 Nope, stock. You must of raced with the older models with 40-60 Horsepower less. This is the new VVTI Engine with almost 300 horsepower.
By the way, don't go running to wikipedia to prove me wrong. They don't have an in-depth history. I would be happy to supply the titles of the literature I have read that supports my statement.
Don't just sit there and spout off what useless crap you have "read". Show us what you read. I am willing to bet that you are lying, because if you do a little research, you will see exactly the opposite about how they manufacture cars.
There are a plethora of books written for other business executives, to help teach them about how Toyota invented "lean manufacturing" so that they may apply it to their own business.
I'll leave it at this. Henry Ford, Walter Chrysler, Louis Chevrolet, Vincenzo Lancia, Andre Citroen and Soichiro Honda all have one thing in common: They were all men who wanted to build a great car. Toyota was different. It was started by the Toyoda family; a very rich family that owned a loom company. If you read the history, its clear that all they wanted to do was make money. In fact, they changed the D to a T in toyoTa so that if it failed their name wouldn't be damaged.
@logume1881 Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, Lancia, and Citroen were never really known for building great cars. Its funny how you say they set out to make a "great" car, yet for the past decade all of them have been losing money by the billions, why? Because they aren't building "great" cars.
Why is it that people cannot accept the fact that Toyota is the only company that has succeeded in its goal: Become the world's largest auto manufacture.
1- Are you shitting me? Lancia, Citroen and even Chrysler built some of the most famous and innovative cars ever. Chrysler Airflow mean anything to you? How about Lancia Stratos? Delta Integrale? Fulvia? And Citroen has built some of the most innovative and technologically advanced cars in their day - and still do. Citroen DS? SM? Ami? 2CV? Mehari? CX? Traction Avant? Toyota and its boring pieces of shit can't hold a fucking candle to Citroen's creativity. I lived in Europe for...
2- for a few years and owned French cars (Renault 5 and Peugeot 205). No problems whatsoever. The reason French cars did poorly in the US was because they were complex cars and if something went wrong the mechanics in the US weren't trained to cope with them. It's that simple. Americans don't know a good car when they see one. Toyota? LMAO. Toyota!!! ??? ROFLMAO. Overrated shitboxes, that's what Toyota is. I'll take any French car any day over some overrated piece of Toyota crap.
I agree with you 100%. Toyota fanboys have no clue what makes a great car. They think some POS Corolla, which isn't even 100% reliable, is a better car than a Lancia Stratos or Citroen DS or SM. They have no clue. The worst part is when they mention the word "Overpriced Toyota (Lexus)" in the same sentence with Cadillac, BMW, Benz or Jaguar. I always have to crack up on that one. That's like mentioning the "singer" Amy Craphouse in the same sentence with Barry White, Frank Sinatra..
So I don't understand your complaint about Lexus cars being Toyota designs.
At-least Toyota uses finer materials and also does a great job on fit and finish in their cars for Lexus. Cadillac's are still the same old shitty GM car just with different shaped body panels.
Cadillac started out building their own cars. Platform sharing occurred in the 50s. Notice I said PLATFORM SHARING. The only Cadillac cars which were rebadged Chevy's were the Cimarron and certain Eldorado/DeVille/Seville models in the 1980s. Lexus on the other hand started out as rebadged Toyota's from day one. And these guys compare themselves to BMW, Benz, Jaguar etc. LMAO! Oh, and the GS is so cramped. The transmission tunnel upfront is so fat, the rear leg space is nonexistnt
Cadillac and Lexus are made for the US market. They don't appeal anywhere else. Cadillac is a failure in Europe (and elsewhere) and so is Lexus. Lexus is only successful in the US and 3/4 of Lexus North American sales are Toyota's: the glorified Camry known to the gullible cocksuckers who buy them as Lexus ES and the Toyota Harrier, known as the Lexus RX. Two extremely boring cars for the masses who have no taste or sense of style and excitement.
The only idiot here is you. Claiming French cars suck? Bullshit. The French car industry has been more innovative in terms of design, safety and engineering than your precious fucking overrated piece of shit Toyota and expensive Toyota brands.
LMAO.. this is coming from a guy that could not even give away the car he owns.
Define: innovative, they may have done something that may have not been done before. BUT, it doesn't mean that its a good and RELIABLE idea...Thats where your stupidity amazes me...DUMBASS..
If something has pretty colors to you, then it must be good...
Why the hell would I want to give away my car? A POS '97 Camry, I'll give that away for free, but not my Pontiac 6000. Also, nobody gives a shit about Toyota and reliability. Toyota did not "invent" reliability. And aside from reliability, there isn't any other reason to go for a Toyota. Boring appliances is what they are. There's no passion behind this brand. NONE.
Cut the bullshit with "Toyota quality". Other brands offer quality as well. Quality is not a word that is only associated with Toyota. Dear fucking Lord, you Toyota fanboys harp on all about Toyota and quality while claiming NO OTHER brands have it. Such fucking bullshit.
other brands do offer quality, but the french brands don't! you dumb shit.U can prey all U like but that still wont change the fact that all your doing is bashing Toyota.. French made cars are KNOWN to be heaps of shit all, BUT Toyota hold the No1 spot because Toyota are KNOWN to be EXCELLENT all round .The only bullshit between us is the made up garbage you speak of.
U drive Grandpa's car and in the same sentence you say a Lexus is crap "YOUR AN IDIOT" Not an enthusiast!!
French cars don't offer quality? Bullshit. Shows you how much a redneck outback Australian cocksucker like yourself knows. Ever heard of brands like Delage, Bugatti, Delahaye, Facel Vega, Hispano-Suiza etc.? They made some of the most luxurious and high quality cars in the 1930s/1950s. And they were French. During this time Mr. Toyoda was still jacking off his little Japanese dick wishing his POS overrated company could even be compared to those great names.
Whoa!!!! 60+ years ago?? LMFAO..You set some REAL DUMB EXAMPLES DUMBASS!!!
So they made some of the MOST luxurious cars, 60-80 years ago and now there hopeless??
What happened??
nearly all your examples have GONE OUT OF BUSINESS!!!!!
That says alot!!
Toyota may have been jacking off back then but, all the French car manufacturers would NOW be JACKING off and looking stupid to Toyota's PROFIT, REPUTATION and No1 spot in the car industry ....
Weren't you the asshole who claimed that France "HAS NEVER (NEVER)" made any quality cars? You sure did. Dipshit. And current French cars are quality cars: well-made, well-designed and very comfortable. Of these qualities, Toyota can only compete with the "well-made" attribute. We know Toyota can't design good-looking cars if their life depended on it and we know none of their cars, with the exception of maybe an Avalon and some JDM-only cars, are comfortable at all.
FRENCH CARS ARE QUALITY CARS. They're very popular in Europe, South America, South Africa (certain African markets), JAPAN, Asian and the Middle East. Nobody gives a flying fuck if Toyota sells the most cars. Toyota sells boring pieces of shit that look like old shoes. French cars are STYLISH, FUN and COOL - none of these words can be used in the same sentence with an appliance like a Toyota. Get out of your mom's basement and look at the new French cars out there. Toyota = bland crap
your reply was Hilarius.....i cracked laughing so fucking hard....your reply truly showed, how stupid you are!!..You still drive the car that your grandma past on to you, so you wouldn't know any better..Maybe its time for you to move out of your grand parents house and step out in to the real world..DUMB-ASS!!
Hey Kangaroo-cocksucker, I BOUGHT my Pontiac 6000 after that "reliable" 1997 Toyota Camry turned out to be such a worthless piece of overrated shit - like all Toyota's. The fact that you claim that Toyota's are 'stylish and comfortable' tells me you're a fucking moron that you're either:
1) a blind Toyota fanboy
2) paid by Toyota to act like a fucking fag
3) generally impaired with down syndrome
Toyota sucks balls. Overrated, overhyped and underperforming. Total fucking crap.
Kangaroo-cocksucker?? LMFAO.that was funny as fuck!!!
Sounds like, your really insecure about driving your grandparents car..You couldn't afford to buy a your Pontiac..You should be thankful to your grandparents for giving it you..I wouldn't have the balls to be seen driving such a ugly POS..But at your age it wouldn't matter!!
Have you ever ridden in or driven a Pontiac 5000? No you have not. So SHUT THE FUCK UP. I've driven each generation of Camry, Yaris, tons of Corolla's and overpriced Toyota's (except the LF-A and IS-F and IS350) because I used to job as a valet at a local restaurant. Toyota's = unimpressive shitboxes. Only a true retard such as yourself would think a Toyota is comparable to a luxury car in terms of comfort, style and refinement. BULLSHIT. And I fucking despise Amy Craphouse.
@jakemiller5000 I agree with the fact that Toyota is not really a luxury car, minus the Lexus LS. I'd prefer a BMW. However...to even compare Pontiac...for the love of god Pontiac, to Toyota is seriously laughable. Pontiac is garbage and everyone knows it.
I'm not a GM guy (I prefer Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth/Imperial - MOPAR basically) but my '85 Pontiac 6000 has held up very well and has never let me down. It's got 285,349 miles on it right now. The 3800 V6 is still smooth and even delivers decent fuel economy. This car has never let me down - unlike that overrated Toyota crap. Had a '97 Camry once - what a POS. I know for a fact that Lexus and Toyota are overrated. They're the most overrated cars on the market at the moment.
@jakemiller5000 Remind me! Which company is now the target for all other companies to hit? Which company has earned a household reputation for quality? Which company is now the largest one of its kind in the world? Which company invented lean manufacturing?
Is it Facel Vega? or perhaps Delahaye?
Oh wait thats right its your favorite car manufacture: Toyota!
Jake seriously just go suck a dick and die. I find it hilarious how you can sit there and with conviction, say the stupid things you do.
LMAO! Toyota/Lexus and 'quality'? Read the fucking news. Recalls and quality issues all over. French cars have an excellent reputation everywhere except in the US. Why? Because Americans, myself excluded, are so fucking stupid to accept cars that might not be offered with powerful engines. Plus, French cars have daring, radical and almost quirky designs due to cultural heritage reasons. that Americans simply don't understand. They'd rather drive a box on wheels: Toyota/Lexus.
Jesus, you sound just as ignorant as you are trying to prove.
First off, I have owned my fair share of cars. I actually was involved with importing cars from Japan, to the state side. And after all of the vehicles, by far my favorite was the Toyota Soarer. 1990 with a beautiful design, elegant features you really only see in vehicles today. Apparently you must not spend much time state side and see the over whelming amount of "Pimped" out 4 cylinders running around.
The Toyota Soarer, eh? The overpriced Lexus SC in other words. I really don't see what the big deal is about that car. It's butt ugly and only appeals to ricers and people who know nothing about car design. The true design experts out there have selected a handful of cars that rank as "the most beautiful ever". The list is dominated up to 97% by EUROPEAN makes and a few American cars. The only Japanese car to make the cut was the Toyota 2000 GT - which was designed by a German!
Oh..also one more thing. Please do your research before you continue to make yourself look like a tool. KBB gave in 2010, it's top resell value award for both your standard and luxury automotive make..and you will never believe who took?? Despite recalls (Must be a first for recalls in the automotive industry? Lol..) Guess those boxy cars could cut it. Also..the older Lexus's are well built cars. Motor, tranny, ect. Aside from electrical, they run forever like day one.. IMO.
KBB? Oh please. Consumer Reports is another one of those "trusted sources" that receives bribes from Toyota in order to rate their lame and overrated products as highly as possible. My experience with Toyota has been awful. I had a 1997 Camry which was the biggest pile of crap I have ever owned. Hell, my '80 Plymouth Volare never missed a beat but this Camry bullshit and issues on a weekly basis. What a truly awful and OVERRATED product.
When you own something then u can talk. I have a 01 Lexus gs 300. My parents bought it brand new with 7miles, and its mine now. They just bought a 2010 MB E350. If you want to compare comfort its goes to Lex all the way. Remember, its mostly has to do with the driver. When you dive in the tri-state area u betta know who to weave. I smoked a lot of cars w/ 300hp on the highway and I got around 235hp on my GS. Just watch ur self....
Comfort is so subjective. I have ridden in GS300's and they're so fucking uncomfortable because they're cramped like sardine cans. Toyota apparently designs these overpriced shitboxes for small Asians.
The lexus brand was made for quality, like most brand names that have an exotic or performance department, those who think lexus are shit know nothing about the mechanics of toyota the 1uzfe has 6 bolt mains, steel crankshaft, forged pistons from the factory and can go over 500,000kms endurance wise with out rebuilding.
all you kids on the internet should stick to jerking of and leave the real world of cars to those of us that know, live and breath cars.
Anyone with any professional driving experience knows that these Toyota/Lexus are crap. They drive like appliances; they do not communicate the way a BMW does, or even my 68 Satellite. Sure, my car is slower, gets worse mileage, etc. But it rarely breaks, and is cheap to fix if it does. It gives pleasure to drive in a way no Toyota or Lexus ever has; to me anyway. And on the appearance aspect, no Lexyota owner ever gets a second look in traffic, or any interest in their cars whatsoever.
@logume1881 Well everyone has there own opinions, but me as a lexus owner I see things totally different. They drive smooth, quiet and accelerate really fast. I bought a LS 460L and I have to tell you I do get second looks on the street. Its a really nice car. And I never had any problems with my Ls 400.. only only chances and its 10 years old (Mashalla)
@metalrocke True that, My dad has a 96 LS400. it has 320k miles. and it still runs smooth, and it's very quiet.. Anyone dissing about lexuses, obv has never driven one or owned one.
@logume1881 I love how thats the ONLY thing Lexus haters say: "it doesn't communicate"
While guess what dip-shit, there is such a thing as buying stiffer shocks and wider tires. Which is exactly what I did for my 98 LS400, and now it handles very well. Plus, the money I save on maintenance goes towards more upgrades.
So now I have a decent handling luxury sedan, that is of superior quality and faster than its same year competitors. So you can have a BMW, I'll take a Lexus any day.
@logume1881 wow that is crazy . so your telling me a sc300 with a 2jzgte swap . get s no attention. and what about the bmw . when that junk has nothing but electrical probs and tranny issues. id rather spend on that lexus price for a broken part over that bmw .
@logume1881 i have a 93 ls400 and constantly get second looks especially who counts, women, i also just had a guy try to buy my car for almost double the price i paid 1400. your satellite is not gonna get you nothin but trailer trash, lexus is well known for not braking look it up the ls400 is best car last like 15 years, also try to find one in the junkyard as far as racing maybe not their strongest suit but who cares, i owned a 99 xj8 and the lex i own now is definitely on par
@logume1881 not true at all, you know how many awards lexus has won for reliability, compared to my moms brand new caddilac my 18 year old 92 lexus ls400 fairs up very well. these cars are truly a pleasure to drive knowing you have pretty much top notch build quality. I was at the tint shop and i had a couple people coming up asking me what car this was, its a lexus man, or sick ride bro.
Pontiac? are you f----n serious i wouldnt even comment if I had a pontiac,I wouldnt even be on a Lexus page unless i wanted one!!!! haters ls400 or celsior whatever you want to call it, them shits run forever way longer than a pontiac any pontiac
I have had this car since it came out and I love it.. It drives like its new. I have had so many races with it and won 90% of the races. I would suggest this car for any lexus lover. I only had oil changes so far and no problems (mashallah). This car is a classic and I love it
Hello, can I just chime in here? Jake, your an idiot who is poor and jealous that you can't afford an Audi, BMW, Mercedes or Lexus. Second of all, Toyota/Lexus are the most reliable. Anyone want to take a guess at the two most reliable cars ever made (besides the W123/W124 Benz?) Lexus LS400 and Toyota Previa minivan. You can get over 400k out of each with proper and minimal maintenance.
Jake your pathetic, and I'm sure your not impressing anyone with your POS pontiac!
Jake seriously you don't know WTF you are talking about. This lexus is one of the best cars ever made. It's just as luxurious as MB or 7 series bimmer but unlike those cars it's also reliable.
The Pontiac 6000 is an awesome car. Reliable, fun to drive, well built, comfortable and awesome 1980s styling. The '97 Camry I once had was the biggest POS I've ever owned. I think you know why I am no friend to Toyota then - because I see them as OVERRATED. Toyota quality? Have you been watching the news lately? Besides, I can get a quality car at Audi, Benz etc. and don't need a boring Lexus. Oh, and Lexus is always late to the party with their rebadged Prius CT200h.
Did you notice how all the manufacturer who had recalls responded instantly? Toyota took their time - despite KNOWING of the dangers and defects. FUCK TOYOTA. Fuck their arrogant ways, their overrated quality and overrated reliability and their AVERAGE cars.
How anyone can become a fan of an overpriced Toyota is beyond me. I'll take any Dodge over an overpriced Toyota anyday including a friggin Caliber or Nitro.
Funny. To me you are the retard because you pay extra for a Toyota with an "L" badge. Now that is utterly PATHETIC. Everytime I see someone who drives a Toyota with leather (a Lexus, I have to suppress a laugh. You just know the guy/girl (but mostly gay people who drive these cars) are STUPID and GULLIBLE. Toyota has the best marketing on the planet hands down. I bet I can sell you a piece of dog shit with a Lexus badge on it.
"Toyota has the best marketing on the planet hands down"
Your right, its called "word-of-mouth" marketing!
Jake you really need to get over the fact that Lexus has enjoyed great success here and abroad (regardless of what you think), and just accept the fact that they are only getting better and are here to stay!
All you talk about is history and heritage, yet Lexus didn't need that to climb their way to the top of Luxury sales and ratings, they did it by selling cars with high quality!
You are the one driving a 1985 Pontiac 6000 ROFLMAO!
Why don't you get a better job so you can earn more and buy a better car?
Maybe you are the one who is stupid and gullible, wait, not maybe, YOU ARE stupid and gullible to believe Pontiacs are better than Lexus.
You even said Lexus are great cars yourself, but it is your ignorant opinion of them which makes you hate them! Why can't you see how stupid your logic is here?
Overpowered FWD car simply suffer from poor power-to-wheel distribution. Tires and driver skill can only help so little and they're almost a non-factor. The time wasted by an overpowered FWD car torque steering factors in in the 0-60 time. So when somebody tells me his overpriced FWD Lexus Camry is a performance and 0-60 monster I have to laugh. FWD is just not made for extreme performance. PERIOD.
@jakemiller5000 No ONE is talking about modifying their ES so what are you trying to argue here?
We all know what "torque steer" is Jake, you don't have to tell us. The reason the RX and ES are FWD is for different reasons other than performance. FWD is a better setup for adverse weather i.e snow, rain etc. Lexus wasn't trying to make a high performance FWD, so stop being stupid.
Comment on the video at hand and quit spouting off bull shit about FWD pros and cons!
FWD performance cars work up to around 200-220-hp and the equivalent torque such an engine would produce. Any more power and it becomes uncontrollable. Also, "controlling" an overpowered FWD in an acceleration race isn't as easy as it sounds. Overpowered FWD cars torque steer like crazy (extremely poor traction). The whole car vibrates and shakes as a result. Hell, even a 2.0 TDI FWD Audi A4 torque steers because of the massive torque.
What bull? Overpowered FWD cars torque steer like crazy which prevents fluid and quick acceleration. Hell, even a regular FWD Maxima or Camry V6 torque steer. When someone tells you their supped up performance Camry or ES or Maxima etc. is quick and a 0-60 / 1/4 monster they are bullshitting you.
FWD cars can be quick Jake. They just are not the most practical for speed. But it is safe to say that an ES could rape your little Pontiac 6000 that you love so much, so what is your definition of quick?
It sounds really funny when your telling others what are good cars and which aren't, when you are the one who drives a POS '85 Pontiac 6000 and a Dodge Brougham, because if you asked any Lexus owner what they thought of your cars, they would simply laugh, like I do!
What's wrong with a car if its slow? Absolutely fucking nothing. And look what crap Lexus is releasing as of late. A CT200h? WTF? The design is ripped off from the BMW 1 series and it also has a lot of lowly Toyota Matrix styling cues. How fucking pathetic. Pontiac is not around anymore but they sure as hell are more stylish than some overpriced POS Toyota.
Modifying a Camry or an overpriced Camry (ES) is a waste of time and money. FWD is the biggest aspect. These things are too heavy to begin with and they weren't really designed to be modified (or slammed) for speed. A Camry / Lexus Camry are what they are: boring cushy sedans for 90-year-old men on whom viagra doesn't work anymore or for men who love other men or for men who are unsure of their sexuality.
Just go back to your Pontiac 6000 and let me drive my ultra-luxurious, refined, powerful, smooth, classy, and dependable LS400, you can have the Pontiacs or Dodges cause I will never be caught dead in one!
Better yet, go kill yourself Jake, because your life is a meaningless existence that is spent wasting time on you-tube.
I love how you call them overpriced, when for the past few years Lexus hasn't had any problems selling a shit load of them!
At-least they were still selling cars, unlike Pontiac!
Go study some Economics; if a product is deemed valuable enough people will pay the price being asked, therefore it can't be overpriced!
You also forgot to mention that Lexus models are cheaper than their competitors, yet Lexus receives higher ratings for quality and reliability (things a luxury car should have)!!!
Lexus reliability is so overrated. Go on a Lexus forum and listen to the whining and bitching going on about those overpriced Toyotas. Besides, in the luxury class every carmaker offers the consumer good quality. Lexus quality is a joke. Overrated. Period. Plus, your precious LS uses the seat control buttons from a Landcruiser. No Lexus interior have a family design. This is such a poseur brand for people who think they are driving a luxury car but are just riding in a fancy Toyota with leather.
"Besides, in the luxury class every carmaker offers the consumer good quality" Yeah so that would explain how Chrysler's luxury models have a lower quality rating than regular Toyotas!
Family design? Why SHOULD a car look like its siblings? Give me ONE GOOD reason! Don't just say things!
I think its better than a 3 series that looks exactly like a 7 series, I mean shouldn't the flagship look better than the other models? Anyways looks are subjective and you can't argue those logically!
Go ahead keep saying Lexus reliability is overrated! Everybody and Mom knows Toyota/Lexus has a rep for reliability, because again word-of-mouth has a way of spreading news faster than anything else.
Try it: Go ask anyone on the streets about what Toyota is known for. I can almost guarantee they will say dependability!
Jake your logic is failing again, why are you trying to attack Toyota about reliability and quality, when they have consistently been rated high for both?
@jakemiller5000 Wow, overpriced? Its whatever fool. I had this lexus since 2000 and the only thing I had to do is change oil (Mashallah) so no matter what you say about any lexus, true lexus owners will only laugh
When people talk about their cars and how reliable they are they often exaggerate. Please don't give me that bullshit. I know a Toyota fanboy, aside from LexLuthor here, who told me his mom's Corolla, which is at 90,000 miles, has never had an oil change before and still works. Haha, I almost shat myself listening to this fool and his bullshit. For all you know the Toyota dealership changed the oil at a service and didn't put it on the bill in order to make Toyota's look so reliable etc.
How am I exaggerating when I say that my car has gone 149,000 miles with NOT ONE problem?
How is exaggerating when I KNOW first hand how good they are?
Of course EVERY machine will eventually wear and start to degrade, BUT it is how long it takes to wear down that determines how well a car's reliability is. And Lexus cars are built to last alot longer than others.
You may have found a few people with some problems on a Lexus forum, but compared to a BMW or Merc forum, Lexus has little probs!
What's your point? Because as long as a company can IMPROVE the car for their Luxury version, what's the big deal? Lexus cars are rated alot higher over their Toyota counter-parts when it comes to quality, whereas Chryslers aren't! So again what's your point?
Yeah I KNOW that, but this dumbass Jakemiller5000 can't figure it out.
The only "Lexus" models to use Toyota platforms are the ES, GX, and the LX.
All other Lexus models have designated chassis, that were designed and built specifically for those!
Somehow this Jakemiller5000 fag thinks that because they are sold as Toyotas in Japan and not Lexus, that all Lexus cars are improved Toyotas. However in reality its vice-versa, because the Lexus brand was sold everywhere but in Japan until recently
The best part about jakemiller5000 is when he calls Lexus cars overpriced and overrated, yet Lexus cars are cheaper than their competition and have won the reliability title for 15 consecutive years!
Back in the day this car was considered better then the competing BMW and Mercedes which says a lot for a car that cost over 15.000 bucks less and it was the first Lexus to hit the market.
This car is legendary and if you say dumb shit like that you are obviously ignorant.
Back in the day the equivalent Mercedes S class and BMW 7 series were at the end of their product life cycle: they were about to be phased out. No shit they were outdated compared to the newly introduced Toyota Celsior, excuse me, Lexus LS. Stop this overpriced Toyota hype. The LS400 entered the market at a time when its competitors were old and about to be relaunched. Any car introduced into a market in such a situation will shine.
Doesn't explain the fact that the BMW and Mercedes were both over 15.000 dollars more expensive and the Lexus was still regarded as a better car then both of them.
Um...BMW and Mercedes? What do those names tell you? History and heritage. Innovation and motorsports. Safety and prestige. Global appeal. It's called PRESTIGE PRICING. Something Lexus couldn't charge (and still can't) because they have no prestige. Lexus might work here in the US, but in other countries (namely Europe and even in Japan), rebadging Toyota's is not something I would call "prestigious".
Wahahah hate i live in a neigbouring country to Germany so BWM's and Mercedes cost WAY less here, you call it prestige pricing i call it added import value, its to protect the sales of your countries own cars.
Also you do pay for a lot higher quality and luxury in Bmw's and Mercedes but you think the name means much, here it doesn't really every 1 car out of 20 is a bmw or mercedes here.
I still prefer this car to the BMW's and Mercedes from its time.
It's called PRESTIGE PRICING. Look it up. Lexus has recently RAISED their prices in the US (and in Europe) because they think they have the prestige of BMW and Mercedes now. I always have to laugh at people who mention a Toyota with leather in the same sentence with BMW or MB. Lexus doesn't have the brand prestige of BMW/MB outside of the US. It seriously sucks that my fellow Americans fall for this gussied up and overpriced Toyota crap.
@jakemiller5000 you shouldn't expect much from lexus. it is DECADES younger than BMW and Mercedes. I realize you may think Mercedes and BMW are much better, but specifically the car in THIS VIDEO is lexus' first car.
My main problem with Lexus is how overrated they are. Even the original LS400 was overrated. It was a good and great car, but it was released at a time when its main competitors were at the end of their product life cycle and about to be replaced. THIS FACT IS ALWAYS OMITTED by Lexus fans. Also, a luxury brand to me has to have heritage and history. Look at the history of Mercedes and Jaguar, BMW, Cadillac, Lincoln etc. Lexus started out as rebadged Toyota's. How "exciting".
@jakemiller5000 LOL thats your excuse, hahahaha keep dreaming you ignorant fool!
Hey Jake when are you going to just go away and stop trolling through Lexus videos and putting them down? Are you jealous? Are you jealous that people can afford a nice car like a Lexus, while you are stuck in a 85 Pontiac 6000?
When you own a S500 or 745i let me know, so we can really compare cars, but as it is now, you have no idea what you are talking about. Just go cruise around in your Pontiac 6000 you fag!
@jakemiller5000 Whatever m8 BMW's and Mercedes are common here and the Lexus is still a luxury car for less money so w/e you say m8, your biased so nvm
Lexus is not a luxury car. It's an overpriced Toyota. Real luxury brands have history and heritage and don't start out as rebadged Toyota's. Maybe in a few decades will be a real luxury brand with real brand prestige but until then BMW and Mercedes, Jaguar, hell even Lancia will have evolved their already prestigious brand prestige.
I don't care much for BMW or Mercedes if I am honest. But they sure as hell rape Lexus a billion times over when it comes to brand prestige, history and heritage, motorsport, innovation, GLOBAL APPEAL etc. Lexus will always be remembered as having started out as rebadged Toyota's. When I want a luxury car I want a luxury car from a luxury brand...not an overpriced and overdressed and overhyped Toyota.
@jakemiller5000 I personally own 3 Lexus's (1999 RX300, 2001 IS300, and my personal baby 1994 LS400) and my brother got a 08 BMW 750i and a 06 SL500. He has spent more time and money in the shop in 1 year than I have EVER. He is somewhere between 80-100K on mileage and I'm around 120+ on all 3 cars. All I ever had to do was oil changes and minor maintenance. Now unless all you car about is a name, let the obvious speak for itself ;-)
So? I had a '97 Camry which was constantly giving me problems. My brother had a '96 4Runner which had transmission problems and various electrical gremlins. There's no such thing as a 100% reliable car, especially these days with cars becoming more electronically and software oriented. This means more routine maintenance for the future, even on a Toyota/Lexus, which are so OVERRATED when it comes to quality. I know tons of people who have zero problems with non-Toyota cars.

stroock6394 4 months ago
@stroock6394 yeah is was dry, but this was in the middle east the roads there are smoother so it tends to slide more.. but if you give it brake then gas and rev it to like 2k rpm you could slide a bit

@metalrocke if you're in the middle east, i'm going to guess that the gas there has a higher octane level there than in america, here it only goes up to 91

Ok for the power but I'm an European & I use the System Metric and "pounds" (??) ;-)

@metalrocke
I accidentally came across a good deal on a 98 Lexus LS and researched before I bought it, I was surprised to find out that it's so fast while it is such a heavy and big car. The GS 400 (98-2000) is a bit faster than LS though, it's got the same engine and transmission and does 0-60 in 5.4s, the fastest production sedan, if wikipedia is to be trusted.
optimistsRUS 1 year ago
@optimistsRUS Yup that is true, GS 400 is basicly the sport edition of the lexus, while having the same engine it has an increase 10 HP and 10 torque and is about 200 pounds lighter.. average 0-60 times with it is around 5.5ish .. its really fast. I currently put a exhaust and intake on my ls 400 and get 0-60 around 5.7 seconds.. stayed really close to a gs 400 not even a half a car difference
metalrocke 1 year ago
@metalrocke

@logume1881 Then do it!
You have so much to learn kid!
lexluthor400 1 year ago
I'll leave it at this. Henry Ford, Walter Chrysler, Louis Chevrolet, Vincenzo Lancia, Andre Citroen and Soichiro Honda all have one thing in common: They were all men who wanted to build a great car. Toyota was different. It was started by the Toyoda family; a very rich family that owned a loom company. If you read the history, its clear that all they wanted to do was make money. In fact, they changed the D to a T in toyoTa so that if it failed their name wouldn't be damaged.
logume1881 1 year ago
@logume1881 Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, Lancia, and Citroen were never really known for building great cars. Its funny how you say they set out to make a "great" car, yet for the past decade all of them have been losing money by the billions, why? Because they aren't building "great" cars.
Why is it that people cannot accept the fact that Toyota is the only company that has succeeded in its goal: Become the world's largest auto manufacture.
Toyota has been moving forward
All others, not so much!
lexluthor400 1 year ago
@lexluthor400

I lived in Europe for...
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
@lexluthor400
I'll take any French car any day over some overrated piece of Toyota crap.
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
@logume1881
That's like mentioning the "singer" Amy Craphouse in the same sentence with Barry White, Frank Sinatra..
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
@jakemiller5000
FYI:
Cadillac's are also re-badged Chevy's
So I don't understand your complaint about Lexus cars being Toyota designs.
At-least Toyota uses finer materials and also does a great job on fit and finish in their cars for Lexus. Cadillac's are still the same old shitty GM car just with different shaped body panels.
lexluthor400 1 year ago
@lexluthor400
The transmission tunnel upfront is so fat, the rear leg space is nonexistnt
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
@jakemiller5000 What's your point? As of now, they share platforms, so what is your point? Cadillac gets cheaper as they go on?
Regardless of history, regardless of how you feel about Lexus vs Cadillac you have failed to take into account sales.
Lexus has and will continue to out sell cadillac for one very important reason: Quality and Dependability.
Go ahead with your rants against Lexus, they couldnt careless what you think, since they are the ones selling more than your beloved Cradi-crap.
lexluthor400 1 year ago
@lexluthor400

I find it hilarious how you can sit there and with conviction, say the stupid things you do.
lexluthor400 1 year ago
@lexluthor400

@jakemiller5000
Apparently you must not spend much time state side and see the over whelming amount of "Pimped" out 4 cylinders running around.
rseaver 1 year ago
@rseaver
The only Japanese car to make the cut was the Toyota 2000 GT - which was designed by a German!
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
@jakemiller5000
IMO.
rseaver 1 year ago
@rseaver
KBB?

And on the appearance aspect, no Lexyota owner ever gets a second look in traffic, or any interest in their cars whatsoever.
logume1881 1 year ago
@logume1881 Well everyone has there own opinions, but me as a lexus owner I see things totally different. They drive smooth, quiet and accelerate really fast. I bought a LS 460L and I have to tell you I do get second looks on the street. Its a really nice car. And I never had any problems with my Ls 400.. only only chances and its 10 years old (Mashalla)
metalrocke 1 year ago
@metalrocke True that, My dad has a 96 LS400. it has 320k miles. and it still runs smooth, and it's very quiet.. Anyone dissing about lexuses, obv has never driven one or owned one.
RaphaelMin 1 year ago
@logume1881 I love how thats the ONLY thing Lexus haters say: "it doesn't communicate"
While guess what dip-shit, there is such a thing as buying stiffer shocks and wider tires. Which is exactly what I did for my 98 LS400, and now it handles very well. Plus, the money I save on maintenance goes towards more upgrades.
So now I have a decent handling luxury sedan, that is of superior quality and faster than its same year competitors. So you can have a BMW, I'll take a Lexus any day.
lexluthor400 1 year ago
@logume1881 wow that is crazy . so your telling me a sc300 with a 2jzgte swap . get s no attention. and what about the bmw . when that junk has nothing but electrical probs and tranny issues. id rather spend on that lexus price for a broken part over that bmw .

jakemiller5000 2 years ago
Overpowered FWD car simply suffer from poor power-to-wheel distribution. Tires and driver skill can only help so little and they're almost a non-factor. The time wasted by an overpowered FWD car torque steering factors in in the 0-60 time. So when somebody tells me his overpriced FWD Lexus Camry is a performance and 0-60 monster I have to laugh. FWD is just not made for extreme performance. PERIOD.
jakemiller5000 2 years ago
@jakemiller5000 No ONE is talking about modifying their ES so what are you trying to argue here?
We all know what "torque steer" is Jake, you don't have to tell us. The reason the RX and ES are FWD is for different reasons other than performance. FWD is a better setup for adverse weather i.e snow, rain etc. Lexus wasn't trying to make a high performance FWD, so stop being stupid.
Comment on the video at hand and quit spouting off bull shit about FWD pros and cons!
lexluthor400 2 years ago
FWD performance cars work up to around 200-220-hp and the equivalent torque such an engine would produce. Any more power and it becomes uncontrollable. Also, "controlling" an overpowered FWD in an acceleration race isn't as easy as it sounds. Overpowered FWD cars torque steer like crazy (extremely poor traction). The whole car vibrates and shakes as a result. Hell, even a 2.0 TDI FWD Audi A4 torque steers because of the massive torque.
jakemiller5000 2 years ago
What bull? Overpowered FWD cars torque steer like crazy which prevents fluid and quick acceleration. Hell, even a regular FWD Maxima or Camry V6 torque steer. When someone tells you their supped up performance Camry or ES or Maxima etc. is quick and a 0-60 / 1/4 monster they are bullshitting you.
jakemiller5000 2 years ago
@jakemiller5000
FWD cars can be quick Jake. They just are not the most practical for speed. But it is safe to say that an ES could rape your little Pontiac 6000 that you love so much, so what is your definition of quick?
It sounds really funny when your telling others what are good cars and which aren't, when you are the one who drives a POS '85 Pontiac 6000 and a Dodge Brougham, because if you asked any Lexus owner what they thought of your cars, they would simply laugh, like I do!
lexluthor400 2 years ago

P.S. Where is Pontiac lately?
lexluthor400 2 years ago
What's wrong with a car if its slow? Absolutely fucking nothing. And look what crap Lexus is releasing as of late. A CT200h? WTF? The design is ripped off from the BMW 1 series and it also has a lot of lowly Toyota Matrix styling cues. How fucking pathetic. Pontiac is not around anymore but they sure as hell are more stylish than some overpriced POS Toyota.
jakemiller5000 2 years ago
Modifying a Camry or an overpriced Camry (ES) is a waste of time and money. FWD is the biggest aspect. These things are too heavy to begin with and they weren't really designed to be modified (or slammed) for speed. A Camry / Lexus Camry are what they are: boring cushy sedans for 90-year-old men on whom viagra doesn't work anymore or for men who love other men or for men who are unsure of their sexuality.

Pontiac 6000 > Overpriced Toyota
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
I love how you call them overpriced, when for the past few years Lexus hasn't had any problems selling a shit load of them!
At-least they were still selling cars, unlike Pontiac!
Go study some Economics; if a product is deemed valuable enough people will pay the price being asked, therefore it can't be overpriced!
You also forgot to mention that Lexus models are cheaper than their competitors, yet Lexus receives higher ratings for quality and reliability (things a luxury car should have)!!!
lexluthor400 1 year ago
Lexus reliability is so overrated. Go on a Lexus forum and listen to the whining and bitching going on about those overpriced Toyotas. Besides, in the luxury class every carmaker offers the consumer good quality. Lexus quality is a joke. Overrated. Period. Plus, your precious LS uses the seat control buttons from a Landcruiser. No Lexus interior have a family design. This is such a poseur brand for people who think they are driving a luxury car but are just riding in a fancy Toyota with leather.
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
"Besides, in the luxury class every carmaker offers the consumer good quality" Yeah so that would explain how Chrysler's luxury models have a lower quality rating than regular Toyotas!
Family design? Why SHOULD a car look like its siblings? Give me ONE GOOD reason! Don't just say things!
I think its better than a 3 series that looks exactly like a 7 series, I mean shouldn't the flagship look better than the other models? Anyways looks are subjective and you can't argue those logically!
lexluthor400 1 year ago
Go ahead keep saying Lexus reliability is overrated! Everybody and Mom knows Toyota/Lexus has a rep for reliability, because again word-of-mouth has a way of spreading news faster than anything else.
Try it: Go ask anyone on the streets about what Toyota is known for. I can almost guarantee they will say dependability!
Jake your logic is failing again, why are you trying to attack Toyota about reliability and quality, when they have consistently been rated high for both?
lexluthor400 1 year ago
@jakemiller5000 Wow, overpriced? Its whatever fool. I had this lexus since 2000 and the only thing I had to do is change oil (Mashallah) so no matter what you say about any lexus, true lexus owners will only laugh
metalrocke 1 year ago
When people talk about their cars and how reliable they are they often exaggerate. Please don't give me that bullshit. I know a Toyota fanboy, aside from LexLuthor here, who told me his mom's Corolla, which is at 90,000 miles, has never had an oil change before and still works. Haha, I almost shat myself listening to this fool and his bullshit. For all you know the Toyota dealership changed the oil at a service and didn't put it on the bill in order to make Toyota's look so reliable etc.
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
How am I exaggerating when I say that my car has gone 149,000 miles with NOT ONE problem?
How is exaggerating when I KNOW first hand how good they are?
Of course EVERY machine will eventually wear and start to degrade, BUT it is how long it takes to wear down that determines how well a car's reliability is. And Lexus cars are built to last alot longer than others.
You may have found a few people with some problems on a Lexus forum, but compared to a BMW or Merc forum, Lexus has little probs!
lexluthor400 1 year ago
Enough about how some Lexus cars are Toyotas!
Your Pontiac is a GM.
Chrylsers are Dodges.
Cadillacs are GM.
Audis are VWs.
Lincolns are Fords.
And so on and so on!
What's your point? Because as long as a company can IMPROVE the car for their Luxury version, what's the big deal? Lexus cars are rated alot higher over their Toyota counter-parts when it comes to quality, whereas Chryslers aren't! So again what's your point?
I don't see your logic here!
Please put your logic into a syllogism!

Back in the day this car was considered better then the competing BMW and Mercedes which says a lot for a car that cost over 15.000 bucks less and it was the first Lexus to hit the market.
This car is legendary and if you say dumb shit like that you are obviously ignorant.
alexicon89 1 year ago
@alexicon89
Any car introduced into a market in such a situation will shine.
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
@jakemiller5000
Doesn't explain the fact that the BMW and Mercedes were both over 15.000 dollars more expensive and the Lexus was still regarded as a better car then both of them.
alexicon89 1 year ago
@alexicon89
Um...BMW and Mercedes? What do those names tell you? History and heritage. Innovation and motorsports. Safety and prestige. Global appeal. It's called PRESTIGE PRICING. Something Lexus couldn't charge (and still can't) because they have no prestige. Lexus might work here in the US, but in other countries (namely Europe and even in Japan), rebadging Toyota's is not something I would call "prestigious".
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
@jakemiller5000
Prestige pricing. heh
alexicon89 1 year ago
@alexicon89
It seriously sucks that my fellow Americans fall for this gussied up and overpriced Toyota crap.
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
@jakemiller5000 you shouldn't expect much from lexus. it is DECADES younger than BMW and Mercedes. I realize you may think Mercedes and BMW are much better, but specifically the car in THIS VIDEO is lexus' first car.
LiLTBoyy115 1 year ago
@LiLTBoyy115
